Me, My Guru – Paravaillai Swami
“In a certain village of Tamilnadu in bygone days came a sadhu to live. He would be smiling always. He started living under a huge tree outside the village. He would say only one-word “Paravaillai” meaning “it’s ok”. It was assumed he was a North-Indian sadhu who came down south and decided to stay in that particular village for a few days. But he didn’t know the Tamil language except ‘paravaillai’ meaning ‘it doesn’t matter’.
He came to be known as “Paravaillai Swami”.
News spread to neighbouring villages too. People from those villages too
started coming to him. To all he had only one word to say “Paravaillai”.
The village head-man – Sarpanch’s son was in love with the girl from other caste. They both came to him seeking his blessings and all he said was ‘Paravaillai”. They would meet as his ashram away from everyone’s eyes. Few months later, the girl became pregnant. When asked about the father of the child she said “Paravaillai Swami”. The villagers rushed to his place hit him right and left, cursed him and left the girl at his place. They all agreed that the girl and the child was his responsibility now. The girl sat there crying. All he said was ‘paravaillai’. The girl was both frightened and ashamed. She tried explaining to him and he simply smiled and said ‘paravaillai’.
