Why and when India became poor country?

See what the India was at 1835......

Lord Macaulay's address to the British Parliament 2nd Feb 1835

"I've travelled the length and the breadth of India and I have not seen a one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country. Such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would conquer this country, unless we break the very back-bone of this nation which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them a truly dominated nation."

This simply states the importance of character and how it reflects in our well-being and the nation's automatically.
History is not to be repeated.
History is not to feel proud about and forget the present.
History is to understand our follies and not to repeat it again.

For this simple reason we are to be working on our follies, mis-givings, short-comings so that we come out as strong individuals with sound character because our lives depend entirely on our character only.....
Character is the back-bone of every abundance in our lives
May this simple understanding bring abundance into your lives.....

On falling

On falling or failing

One who falls is not at fault.
Falling or failing is also not a mistake or sin. But, not getting up after falling down or not trying after failing is a sin.
To sit down where one has fallen and to be sitting there crying is a sin.
To understand that falling brings with it some pain and to work to heal that pain is beautiful and right.
To hold on to one’s pain is a sin.
To hold it in one’s heart and to move on in life is right.

Me, My Guru

.contd..

Likewise, a person/situation is not bad if my expectations are not met. My suffering is real but the person/situation just is.  For eg., it rains. In cities we complain and a farmer is happy.  Rain is neither good or bad.  I wanted to go on a picnic, then rain can't become bad.  It is as it is! My expectation makes it good or bad!

Say , I want my family and friends to understand me and support me in all my ventures that I undertake.  But, they don't support me or they don't understand me.  In such a situation, the `situation' is `not bad' because my expectation is not met. It is as it is! The situation is not conducive to my desire.  That's all! But the situation is not `bad'.  Likewise, all the people who are responsible for my `expectations not being met' are not bad.  They just don't fulfill my expectations. That's all! It's as simple as `they don't understand me or they don't support me'.  But we usually state it as `they are bad people' in my life.

Many a times, absence of `good' is considered `bad'.  That is also not bad!  For eg: getting up early in the morning, doing exercises, following rituals, following a certain dress code etc are considered good by `usual' standards.  But, that doesn't mean one doesn't follow them are all `bad'.  Say a woman wears western wear, doesn't get up early et like can't be termed as a bad woman.  A woman who doesn't cook or doesn't know to cook is no more bad than a woman who does.  It's like saying; a man who doesn't drive is bad.  Can you accept it? So, Absence of `good' is not `bad'.

Me, My Guru

Me, My Guru

On what's Bad?

I didn't understand her statement "If you are good in lots of ways and still are wanting in few areas, it doesn't mean you are bad" inspite of applying it in many areas and on lots of people.  Then, I felt I would understand `goodness' only if I also understand what `bad' is all about.  So, I went to meet her and in her company the first question that I asked was "Now, what of badness?"

She didn't have to be explained anything.  It was as if we were on that topic since morning.  She started to explain, "One which is liked by all can also be bad.  Just as one, which is not liked by many also, need not be bad.  If I don't like it, it doesn't become bad.  Just the way, if I don't follow it doesn't become bad.

We usually assign something that we don't follow or accept as bad.  Think about it!  It is our like and dislike that we are talking about.  Our likes and dislikes can't be the basis of good and bad.  Why? Because, what I couldn't accept last year, this year I have accepted it.  Maybe, because I am in that situation now or may be my perspective has changed. Whatever be the fact, my likes and dislikes are ever changing depending upon my life's situations.  Then, how can I judge someone based on my likes and dislikes?

For eg., I don't like smoking.  But I can't call a smoker a `bad person'.  He has a bad habit which is bad for his health.  But, that doesn't make him a `bad person'. Likewise, a person with clean habits can get into my nerves and I call him `bad'.  Possible?  Because, his habits are clean but his nature is very irritating, rude or difficult one to live with for me. But an outsider will call him `good' because he doesn't smoke, drink or gamble.  Based on this definition, I should automatically be a saint because I don't smoke, drink, gamble and am not a womanizer too! But, people around me don't accept that! Just as not having a bad habit doesn't qualify a person with `goodness' and in the same way a `bad habit' doesn't make a person `bad'.

Of Goodness

"Guruji, please tell me of goodness" I implored when I saw her trimming her plants humming a tune.

She replied even without turning her head "Goodness cannot be a fixation. If one is good, it doesn't make the other bad.  For one to be good, other need not be bad.  Good stands on it's own.  If you are good in lots of ways and still are wanting in few areas, it doesn't mean you are bad.  Goodness is no goodness if it is relative.  Many times good is only relative not absolute.  It ceases to be a virtue if it is practiced as one.  If you are good out of fear, shame or because of lack of opportunity, then your goodness is no good."

"If you are good in lots of ways and still are wanting in few areas, it doesn't mean you are bad. What does it mean? "I asked.

"I get up early in the morning.  That's a good habit but it doesn't make me good. Though many of us confuse our habits with our character and credit ourselves goodness and suffer being good.

But I don't exercise in the morning inspite of getting up early or say I don't bathe till 10 am, then that doesn't make me bad.  It just means I don't exercise, that's all. It usually is read as what's the use of getting up early if not exercising? Or she is bad because she doesn't bathe till 10 am.she doesn't have that habit - that's all.  It doesn't mean she is bad."

I wanted to apply it to so many people and in so many situations to understand it so I didn't ask her anything else...

I just left her with her plants and I moved into myself....

Just a thought

.contd..

Now, once this is done (don't read it and nod your head and move on!), apply it and only then, you'll understand the importance of being calm - of being relaxed!

Then, please start using relaxing techniques taught to you, as many times as possible so that a day comes when you are naturally relaxed.

Everything comes with practice - Abyasa!

So, start practicing from now on....

Just a thought

.contd..

Now, what do we do?

Simple. Just relax. Yes.

Close your eyes and do few breathing exercises.
Do `let go' meditation.
Play a game.
Go out and watch a movie.
Do anything that relaxes you. Be it music, dance or meeting your friends.

And now, look for the solution - remember look for the `solution'.  Here, many end up looking at the problem and again fall into the trap of looking at the enormity of the problem.

So, just look for the `solution'.  You'll find it right under your nose.  Smile and apply it.  Don't logically cancel it or write it off saying it's `too simple. So, it can't be the solution.'

Just a thought!

Just give it a thought!

Many times, we fail to find solutions to our problems in life - not because the problem doesn't have one, but because we think our problem is very complex and so it's solution can't be easy or easily found.

Remember, often-complex issues have easy solutions.

But, because we are looking for complex solutions or living with a thought that we can't solve our problem we can't `see' the solution, which is right in front of us!
Then, how to find the solution?

First know why we can't `see' the solution.  The answer is very simple.  It's because we are tensed.  We are tensed because we are in pain. Tension and worry cloud our vision and hence we can't `see' the
Solution that is right in front of us.

If to train physical body if it takes years of practise, then why do we lose patience in training the mind which is much more subtle and unseen......?
