Why to withdraw from senses?

Effects of attachement to Senses :

Firefly driven by the sense of sight gets drawn to light and looses its life.

Bee for want of nectar gives in to its taste buds and stays on to the flower and gets trapped when the flower gets closed at night and dies.

Elephant during mating season is so reckless that by tying female elephant the hunters catch the male elephant in the trap laid. Touch sense drives the elephant to death.

Deer is so bound by good music and is lead to the trap by the hunters by playing good music. It’s ears are its enemy. It takes it to its doom.

These animals have weakness of only one sense organ. And that sense organ has weakness for a specific taste only. For eg. Bee has weakness for taste (mouth-sense organ) and that too for nectar only. It doesn’t have weakness for biryani, chats or ice-creams either. One organ which gives in to one taste can drive that animal to its doom. No doubt even God’s can’t save the man who is driven by all the five sense organs and also five vikaaras – not to forget mind and intellect. No wonder, man creates so much of pain and suffering in his life. Just think about it………….don’t you really think we need to recheck our affiliations that we have with our sense organs and mind?………..

Wisdom ceases to be wisdom when it becomes too proud to weep,
 too grave to laugh and
too self-fulled to seek other than itself.

Secret of abundance

How to experience abundance in my life?

If you want to lead a life of abundance, then ‘drop’ – drop all is dead and stinking in yourself….not because I tell you to, not even because it is said in puranas, not because it is ethically right – because by doing so, you are bringing in more possibility of abundance into your own life – abundance of physical well being, emotional balance and financial well being too!

How this luggage removes possibility of abundance from our lives? - abundance of physical well-being, emotional well-being and financial well being too!

Every single emotion such as anger, greed, frustrations, hatred, jealousy et like stem from the centre that is EMPTY - Centre that is YOU. Emptiness can’t be filled inspite of being dumped with all and sundry. Nature has the golden rule – “It gives back in abundance what you give to Nature. As I am giving emptiness, I get only that in abundance back – maybe wrapped in goodies sometimes but emptiness nevertheless…”.

For example, anger gives out helplessness, feeling of wronged, frustrations and a sense of not being understood. This energy goes out to the world and creates such returns to me only. So, I’ll be put in situation where I would feel helpless, feeling of wronged, frustrated and misunderstood. Now, that the situation is real, I would react again with the same feelings – may be with higher degree and it becomes a vicious circle. It has a snowball effect on the chain of events that follow in my life. First feeling is the seed that is called karma and it branches out as a situation or an event in the near or distant (sometimes long forgotten) future where the fruits are going to be of the same seed – remember. If I planted a seed of anger, my tree would give out fruits of frustrations, anger, helplessness etc. But the funny part is I plant one seed and from it comes thousands of fruits – all bitter and sour and painful to me. And the tree comes out in my life as a situation or an event. When I was not comfortable with one seed of anger, no doubt I suffer more with the thousands of fruits of anger lying all around me in my house and backyard.

The next reason is once I am surrounded by this energy I would attract similar energies only. Since, there is no spelling of abundance in this energy, I don’t experience it in my life. Life is such a plate in which only few things can be accommodated. I have already filled it with anger, frustrations, jealousy etc, then where is the place for good and happening things in my life? So, if I want abundance, then I should be letting go off anger so that I am available for abundance in my life. And letting go means to forgive and move on in life…

Just look at the picture....Sunlight comes in abundance into thick forest - but it is possible because of an opening only....let the sunlight bring abundance in your life....but for that you should keep your doors and windows open.  That means, to open up to positivity, love, gratitude, giving, sharing and this is possible by letting go of old and worn out feelings of complaining, conditions, hatred, expectations et like.....

Karela ka jhaad bo kar mein aam kit ho intezaar nahi kar sakthi na? after sowing seeds of bitter gourd, I can’t expect it to give out mangoes…think about it.....

It’s all the game of energies, what you create, you experience. So create with little more responsibility – towards your sweet self only and with awareness…because what you sow, so you reap!

So, to receive abundance of joy, you need to sow it by giving it in the first place. To receive satisfaction, you need to have gratitude for all the things received and owned by you. To receive love and respect, you need to give that to others in the first place....

Whatever you want, you need to 'sow' it as seed by giving it in abundance to receive it....

if you want pain, complain.
if you want hatred, hate.
if you want confusion, manipulate.
if you want restlessness, cheat others (and then you never will be able to trust even GOD ).
if you want mean and selfish persons, be hurting to people who love you and drive them away from your life....

The Change

Said a blade of grass to an autumn leaf "You make such a noise falling! You scatter all my winter dreams."

And the leaf said "You are low born and hence can't tell the sound of singing"

Then the autumn leaf lay down and slept and when spring came she was a blade of grass..

And then when the leaves were falling all over her she said " O these autumn leaves! They make such a noise! They scatter all my winter dreams.."

Guru

Mahaavataar Baba                                                        Lahari Baba

...contd...

4.  Guru can also teach and guide you when not in physical body.  This he does through his words, teachings and works that he has left behind eg., Sri Adi Shakaracharya through his various treatises like Vivekachoodamani, Soundarya lahari etc.

Swami Paramahamsa's Guru Shri Lahari Baba was guided and absorbed into himself by his Guru Swami Mahaavatar Baba (Read - Autobiography of a Yogi).  Mahaavataar Baba is seen by his followers even after 2000 years of his dropping his physical body.  He teaches through his spiritual body.

But, this teaching is done only when student has reached a certain stage in meditation - which is very advanced and very few reach that stage through intense sadhan spreading over janmas sometimes and their Guru guiding them through each of their janma too!

Yes, teaching and learning can happen even in Guru's absence (physically) but the question remains, Is hte student qualified to receive that teaching?

Now, how to qualify as such a student?

Simple. Sadhan, sadhan and more sadhan.  The sadhan techniques that need to be followed regularly are :-
1. Pranayamam
2. Homam
3. Hands on (If reiki channels)
4. Various meditations taught in various degrees of reiki class
5. Work on attitudes and drop ego, arroganc, pride, manipulations, selfishness et like.
6. Develop attitudes like humility, seva - esp. Guru seva, gratitude, surrendrance.
7. Read Guru's words, teachings regularly - nay daily and think about it through the events of the day and see how to apply them in life.
8. Sing guru's praises (bhajan), spread his word (without being fanatic or arrogant) and talk/discuss about his teachings.

Simple! Right? So why wait to start all the practices from today onwards.  It takes years of practise to make our gesture into genuine acts of devotion .... and then slowly we'll start seeing effects of our bhakthi.  But to experience, we need to practise right from this moment onwards....

Remember, no sadhan will give results if attitudes are not corrected....

But, the eternal Golden Fact remains "To See, Hear and serve a Guru physically is a luxury that can be never traded to any joys of all the worlds!".....

Learning can be done otherwise also. But to experience Guru's love (which is like none in this world) you need to have him physically present........

I would always choose Guru's Presence to all the knowledge of this world.......aapki ki aap janoo...

Guru

...contd...

We not only seek answers but also learn from our Gurus some knowledge like archery etc (including higher knowledge).  Even this can be learnt from a Guru in his absence.

Like Ekalavya learnt archery from Guru Dronacharya.  But, in such cases, the most important thing is the true 'Bhakthi' - devotion that the student should have towards his Guru.  If the Bhakthi is pur, he can learn from Guru's presence what a student present with Guru himself couldn't learn i.e., what Arjuna couldn't learn in Guru Dronacharya's presence, Ekalavya learnt in his absence.  The reason is, when physically present, our ego comes between us and our Guru and we miss out on learning.  But, in our Guru's absence our ego doesn't come to the fore and our learning becomes easy.

But, is it available for all?

Yes.  It is available for all.  But only, the pure in heart and one who's surrenderance to his Guru is complete can learn like Ekalavya.  Don't forget, he gave his thumb as Guru Dakshina though he could give an excuse that his Guru hasn't taught him physically.  But, he didn't. That is honesty.  That is gratitude and that is integrity of character.

Rare are such people and rarer still as student because what is common is inspite of learning from a Guru in person, people 'cheat' yes I repeat 'cheat' on paying fees and other dues.  They postpone paying eternally quoting insensible reasons - not because they can't afford - no, just a look at their expenses will give you clear picture that they don't have 'right' intentions.  With this nature unfortunately what is taught by Guru is also not absorbed by the student. If learnt not applied or used by the student because nature wouldn't let him have the benefit of learning because of his wrong attitude.

Is this the only loss?  No.  They lose their money by way of gambling (mostly by their family members), people cheat on them.  They invest in such of deals which are bad and lose all the money, get caught by cheaters and end up paying money to black-mailers.  Their dues is not realised.  They lose heavily in their businesses.  Their family members become way ward and end up not earning money and they end up squandering all their earnings.  Then they complain "Why I am suffering so much?"  If only they realize and pay the dues due to their master..........

So, remember "Attitide" of the student should be right, pure and not even least amount of arrogance, cheating etc would be accepted by the nature!

Guru

...contd...

Does it mean Guru is teaching and guiding even when not present? (Question asked by madhumita - see comments)

Yes.  Definately.  Guru is not physically present always to guide you.  Yet, he guides you even in his absence.

The way he guides depends on the level of his student.

1.  A student who seeks an answer or a way, mentally talks to his Guru, pleads him to guide him or prays to him.  This is a very average student (in terms of spiritual growth) and to this student Guru gives his answer through the medium student is surrounded with.  For eg., through a TV programme, book,an Ad., etc.

2. When a student grows a little in his path (spiritually) he seeks an answer and he hears the answer or intuitively feels the answer.  At this stage, he has to an extent let his Guru enter his mind.  This he does by regularly thinking about his words, reads his words, discusses them and sees his Guru's words resonating in everything that he reads, sees, listens.

The flip side is, people imagine or hallucinate an answer which they themselves want to hear and then say they got a 'message' which is very dangerous because in such of cases their emotions (which is many times wrongly placed) is controlling their life and no doubt the result of such actions and following such 'message' can only give a painful results.

Guru

...contd....

Agreed this guru guides them in Astral form but unfortunately, what one can't follow when told verbally, how can that one follow  when it is unheard?

So, my humble request is never take time for granted. Don't postpone Sadhan for tomorrow.  Learn all that you can from one whom you meet.  Who knows 'kal ho na ho' - Tomorrow may or may not be!

Learn while you still can!

भक्ति  में अगर शक्ति हो,
थो बुध भी भगवान हो जाता है
बात भक्ति में है,
बुध कि नहीं

Bhakthi mein Agar Shakthi ho,
tho budh bhi bhagwan ho jaatha hai.
Baat bhakthi ki hai
budh ki nahin.

If your faith is pure,
even an idol becomes God!
It's all about purity of intent and your devotion
it's never about the Idol!

So, increase your purity, devotion, openness and drop your ego, arrogance, being jealous and lo behold a Guru standing right beside you and guiding you through ups and downs of life!

Guru

...contd....

Does it mean this Guru will stay with you for next janmas to come?

Not necessarily.  As difficult as it it to meet One - it is equally easy to make him go out of your life with your attitude - if hatred, selfishness, greed and ego.

But, when he came, he knew I was prepared to receive him? Then why does he leave?

is it not the duty of Guru to help me over-come these qualities?  If yes, how can he leave me for the same?

If this is your question, the answer is very simple!

By your sadhan, intent and karma you are qualified 'to receive' the Guru.  But, the qualification is to receive only - not to retain him in your life.

When he comes, he makes unexplainable efforts to help you overcome your weaknesses.  But when he sees, you are still attached to it and no effort of his is going to give results, he moves ahead to help others.

Many times, he would come in your life - why even in various janmas to be at your side to pull you out of this quagmire.  But, if after certain number of janmas (no, the number is not fixed), he feels you are yet not ready, he moves on after giving his blessing - never to meet you again!

People who lived and staged with Sai Baba, Paramahamsa, Ramana Maharshi didnot get totally transformed.  They couldn't - nay didn't want to leave the nothing of this world behind them.  Their Guru moved on. These Gurus met them in various janmas, but alas! they couldn't make the most of it! (Or maybe that was the most they could make out of his presence!)

Guru

...contd....

Likewise, instead of trying to find a Ideal Guru make everyone you meet your Guru and learn something from them.  One will teach to how not to use words, other how to serve. One may teach how to get dressed and other how to be disciplined.

All these I admire in other people - already!

That way, I am already a 'good student. Right? - could be your next question.

Fine.  Admiring is good.  But, it doesn't benefit you one bit.  Be humble to accept that 'I lack this quality" and put it to practise regularly till it becomes your nature.  Only when you apply you become a student - not by just admiring!

So, there is nothing as being blessed to have a Guru if I am learning from negative ones too! Right?

Wrong.  Guru is always a Guru!

No doubt about it.  But, before you meet Guru, you should've empties yourself of 'yourself' i.e, your ego.  And that can happen easily and efforlessly when you learn, apply and change as you meet every person in your life.

When you've emptied yourself then "The Guru" enters your life when you are ready for Him!  He enters as a breeze in your life.  You'll find the solace of getting to stand under the shade of a huge tree after walking in the hot sun for hours.  You'll know you've reached your home when you meet him.  Just a thought of him will make you peaceful.  You don't have to make an effort - You are Peaceful - Just like that!

But, when I am not free of ego, even after meeting him, staying with him, talking, walking and living with him I'll not be able to recognise him and hence will not be able to get the benefit of being and living with a Guru.  I would treat him like any other as per my nature and like a monkey through away a diamond thinking it to be useless.....

Guru

...contd...

Am I not a student the moment I am seeking a Guru?

No.  Whenever we 'seek' Guru, we've an attitude that I am accepting someone as a Guru.  Isn't it?  Now, answer a simple question.  Who is at the higher pedestal vis-a-vis Guru-Shishya?
Guru or shishya?
Guru. Right? If it is so, how can shishya who is by default at a lower pedestal accept Guru at a higher pedastal.  He can never.  (This may apply for pseudo-master but Not the Actual Guru!).  It's always Guru who accepts his shishya.  The discretionary power rests entirely on him and him alone.

He, only out of love and grace can accept his disciple!

If, as a shishya I can't select my Guru then what is this 'student quality' that I should have? And Why?

True! It's Guru who selects but for him to select I should be having the 'essential' - I repeat ESSENTIAL qualities of egolessness, purity of intent, Trust, surrenderance and humbel enough to learn and above all accept that "I don't know" and be open to learning!.

How can these qualities protect against 'false gurus?'

Learning is of two types 1.How to be and 2. How not to be.

All the above varieties of so-called Gurus will show you how not to be.  Then you can learn and benefit from every person in your life.  Every person becomes your Guru.  Few things that we can learn from the 'wrong ones' can give us insight and understanding of 'learning technique'.

The first type is deceptive ones.  Agreed they are parroting, but we can follow their statements and apply them and benefit from them.  They may ask to get up at 'Brahma Muhurtam'  i.e., from 3 am - 5 am and do reiki, yoga, meditation when they themselves maynot follow.  That shouldn't trouble us.  we can get up and practice reiki at that time.  Your growth is for sure!

They only talk about forgiveness and yet not follow it!  Cool.  You apply it and become free from hatred.

Guru

...contd...

4. Fraud type -

These take advantage of people trusting them and cheat them off their belongings, trust, chastity and may even kill their so-called students to further their interests.  Your TV programmes will give umpteen cases of this type.

5. The Jealous Type -

Most insecure of all, these type feel jealous of their student's success.  These can really harm a student deeply.  "Swathikiran" - a telugu movie is a classic eg., of this type.

None of these types are wrong by themselves.  It is our fault to follow someone blindly without knowing them.  Our weaknesses forces us to go to such 'Gurus' who promise us to fulfill our desires.  That time we don't use our power of understanding to look at the methods these people use to reach the end.

"Wrong means can never get you right end".  Remember that always!

The description of 'wrong Gurus' is really worrying.  And after knowing that following a 'certain Guru'  can effect my janmas, how do I filter out these wrongs ones and get to select a right Guru?

What are the tests I can put a Guru to, to know he is a right one?

No one can fool anyone at all times.  He gives away himself unknowingly in every way.  If you are aware, you can catch a fake one easily.  You can separate the genuine from the crowd of fake ones.  But, the awareness is - for most of us clouded by our weaknesses and we can't see what is obvious. Then, what is the better way?

Simple!

Instead of 'filtering' the Guru's nature, type etc., just get into a 'student quality' in toto!  Now what is this - should be the next question? Right?

Guru

...contd...

2.  Shakuni Type - They say they will procure you objects of your desire but the methods that they follow are that of 'adharma'.  Like, black magic, cheating, manipulation et like.

Their basic and only intention to fulfill their intention/desire through their student i.e., of procuring money, fame, power, respect etc through you.  Your benefit is never there in their agenda.

3.  The Ignorant Fool - These are very dangerous because they don't even know the effects of the procedures followed to obtain or fulfill some desire.  For eg., a yoga guru who doesn't know the bad effects of asan done by a person suffering with some ailment say slip disc etc can harm more than benefit the student.  A fanatic religious head who vehemently opposes other beliefs and gives a lob sided view of the textual contents or a reiki/pranic or any alternative therapists/master who doesn't know the whys and hows of a procedure - they all come under this category.

The harm is, the benefit is not seen by the student even after following the 'right procudre' for considerable amount of time - nay sometimes a negative effect is seen in some cases.  Then the student becomes disillusioned and may altogether leave the path of Sadhan being totally frustrated.

'Right knowledge in a fools hand can be dangerous' can be applied to them.

They make tall claims and give poor results but are smart enough to blame it on the student.  Beware of these Ignorant ones who go around claiming or acting as Gurus.

Guru

....contd....

Is it good or bad?

Well, it's good or bad depends on whom you've chosen as a Guru - is it the right person or wrong?

How do I know the right from wrong?

Who is a 'wrong' Guru?

There are different types of 'wrong' Gurus :

1.  The Deceptive Ones - These are the most dangerous of the lot of 'wrong' Gurus.  They are experts in parrotting right statements/quotations/stories heard or read to others.  Yes, I say parrotting because, they are shallow with regards to understanding their own sentences or stories.  They don't have actual knowledge or experience to back their statements.

Next, they just teach but never ever follow what they teach.  For eg., they talk hightly of 'forgiveness' and not being jealous but can't follow it themselves.  They carry only hatred for even thier near and dear ones and venor for one and all!  Such types at the most can be called as 'Teachers' and not 'Preachers' and a Guru preferably should be a Preacher - one who follows what he says or teaches.

They may smile a lot and say 'Be Peaceful', 'Trust in HIM', 'Be Happy' but personally can never be at peace, happy or surrender to the WILL of the Lord.

They are ever afraid that others would come to know of their weaknesses and hence use various methods to rule others with guilt, pain, anger and such feelings.

Guru

...contd...

Both Duryodhana and Yudhishtra respectfully and completely followed their respective Guru's Shakuni and Krishna - but to what end?

'Shraddha waan labate' means you receive as per your Shraddha.  The returns depends totally on the place the belief is placed.  If placed on on evil source, the return will be so, on demi-god it will be proportionate to that god's power.  Likewise, on the quality of your Guru, depends your returns.  So choose your Guru with care.

Do Guru shishya meet more than once during their life journeys i.e., do they meet in various janmas or is it a one-time affair?

Not only Guru-shishya but no relationship which is near and dear is a one-time affair.  If there is a person very close to you, be it a relative, friend, country etc, then it means you've walked this path of life many times before and will meet many more times in future births - even if the emotion involved is that of hatred, pain or any such negative one.

So, naturally if every relationship - even negative we gain attract in our future life and have lived so in past lives, it is no doubt that guru-shishya's relationship spans various janmas.

Is it good or bad?

Guru

...contd....

On the other hand, Yudhistra choose Krishna as his Guru to seek guidance to arrive at a decision which was always based on 'Dharma'.  Neither he asked 'What is beneficial to me or us?" nor "which is easier path to walk?"

He always asked "What ought to be done?" or "What is the right thing to do?"

Krishna likewise answered him everytime saying "this is as per Dharma".  He never once said "I want it this way" or "I think so!".

So, in the same battle though Pandavas also lost everything and everyone - they went on to establish Dharma in thier kingdom and were relegated a place in heaven as a gift for rightful living.

Assuming there is no heaven or hell, even then their next life will be decided on their deeds of this janma which undoubtedly being 'right' - they would be given a good life in their next birth.

Forget about next life, even in this life, they were highly respected by the wise and just.  That is the greatest treasure of walking the right path which is shown by the 'Right' guru and walking on that path is inevitable as the Guru will never encourage the 'easy' path when it is against 'Dharma'.

Guru

...contd....

In Mahabharat, Duryodhana accepted Shakuni as his 'Guru' - whose advice he followed blindly.

He believed that Shakuni had only his interest uppermost in his mind.

And let us for now assume it to be true too!

Assuming Shakuni - his own uncle had only intention to see Duryodhan rule Hastinapur - then why did Duryodhan face such a ghastly end?  Not only he, the entire Kuru dynasty and with him all the dynasties of Aryavrat (the entire Bharata Desa - India as was called in those days!)  met their end.  Because the battle of Kurukshetra was not fought between two brothers but involved all kings of Bharata Desa in short it was a la' world war.

The entire Kuru clan was wiped out.  There was no heir left of Kuru clan.  Did not Shakuni's advice effect janmas (generations ) to come?  That is one effect (in future!)

Next, since as per shashtras we know we have next life and that life's birth and quality depend on our present karma, can you in any way think of good life for Duryodhana?  That's the second effect i.e., the birth and the quality of our life is affected.

Next - since all this life Duryodhana was beaming with hatred, anger, jeolousy and insecurities, he would be born with these as his basic nature which we call as 'samskaras'.  This is what determines our horoscope.  Since he would be born with these qualities, he would be more prone to behave in a similar fashion in next life too thereby increasing their impression on his soul which effects his janmas to come..

In short, for many more janmas to come, he sould be literally 'living hell'....

Guru

Guru's Impact

The question asked was "Will that mean we and our guru are meeting in each and every Janma that was and the Janmas yet to come"

Well, the answer is 'yes' and 'no'.

In the first place, let me tell you when i said "our selection of Guru effects not just this life for lives to come.......so select with care...." I didn't mean to say that we'll meet our Guru in our next life. I said "it effects our future janmas".  It means selection of a Guru will decide the route I take in my janmas to come.

But, before going further let's understand how selection of our Guru decides our fate -atleast for this life...

Who's a Guru in the first place?

A guru is one whom we turn to in times of confusion, pain and suffering and seek his guidance to face it and to overcome it...

A guru is one who removes our ignorance and helps us to see the right from wrong in the light of "Dharma"...

A guru leads you from darkness to light - i.e., from ignorance to wisdom....

A guru is one who holds your hand when you faltr as you walk the path of your life and lifts you, supports you and then forces you to walk the right path...

A Guru explains why you need to select a particular course in your life and how it benefits you or tells you the harm in selecting a certain path.

A Guru is not one whom you think thinks about your good and follow him blindly.

Then how does it effect my life or lives to come?
