On cow’s milk

On cow’s milk

Now, why should we go through these benefits and facts about other products that we receive from cow if our simple doubt is ‘is drinking cow’s milk good or bad?’

People who propagate against drinking cow’s milk (and its by-products like panneer, yogurt, ghee etc) do so with a single reason that the milk that the calf is supposed to drink is taken away as there is demand for cow’s milk in the market. Though, it is true that the cow produces milk for its calf, it does not produce ONLY for its calf. That’s how it is programmed by nature and hence cow’s milk has been used by men and cow is revered by our Sages as it occupies the place of ‘our mother’ in feeding us with its milk right from our birth. Not all children have access to their mother’s milk for various reasons and the safest and total replacement is that of cow’s milk. So are we to let the child suffer for this reason and dump his system with canned powder milk or such supplements?

Next calf is allowed to drink milk after the cow is milked and it has enough for it. The cowherds want a healthy cow growing for their prosperous tomorrow. So they can’t be stupid enough to make it starve as that would mean their future is bleak with weak cows. Like in all trades greed and mechanisation (thanks again to western influence) has entered this industry too. That means, milking of cows especially in large numbers is done by machines which may not know when to stop and yes it can hurt the udder of cow too sometimes. That part of argument is right.

But still most parts of India, cow is still raised by individuals and the milk collected from all individuals pooled in a place and then it is packaged. This way, people are still connected to their cattle and here the relationship is of that of love rather than greed based. So the question of said torture doesn’t arise.

On cow’s milk

On cow’s milk

Drinking cow’s milk – is it good or bad? Is it right or wrong?

It is established fact that the next and only best thing after mother’s milk is ‘cow’s milk’ to the child. It is the safest and only ‘food’ right for both the children, the old and those whose constitution doesn’t support normal diet due to health complications.

Can the ‘safest’ food be ‘wrong’?

As per vedic culture, it is one food item that can be used for any sort of religious practice. It is enough as ‘prasadam’ – the food offered to the God after the religious practices of prayer, best to do ‘Abhishekem’ – a type of washing or cleansing idols as per vedic culture and tradition, used along with rice and clarified butter as ‘ahuti’ – an offering made to the fire God during various forms of pooja or homam.

Let’s keep religion aside for time being. Let’s look at simple facts only. It is again and again established that ‘yogurt’ made from milk is ‘probiotic’ and helps fight the infections and good for our immune system. Of all types milk cow milk had been found to be the best.

Ghee – is the by-product of butter and known to be the best form of fat and is required by the body. It gives ‘good cholestrol’. Cow-dung, clarified butter/ghee offered as an offering to fire daily just twice is known to do away with air  pollution.

Manure made with cow dung, ghee, milk and its urine when sprinkled in the fields is the best manure to the earth and such fields have given excellent yields. These are organic ways of raising crops, age old traditional way of farming in India that maintains the quality of soil and is eco-friendly. All our practices had been eco-friendly all these centuries, until of course we were swept by the flood of  ‘assumed culture and intelligence of the western world’ that brought the down fall of our character, practices and we are now bearing the brunt of such wrong beliefs and practices imbibed from the cultured ‘west’.

Now, why should we go through these benefits and facts about other products that we receive from cow if our simple doubt is ‘is drinking cow’s milk good or bad?’

On a good note!

I start my day on a good note! I make my bed happily and lovingly. Not because. I had good night sleep or that I have a great day ahead but for a simple reason that when I come back home after my hectic day - tired, dejected, exhausted, frustrated, disappointed or feeling low, a look at my bed done gives me a high that lightens my spirit...

I know i can't control catastrophes, accidents, failures, disappointments, dejection, life or death, ill health and such fatalities. But the bed made gives me hope and assurance that 'still some simple things' are in my control and i can bring about change in my attitude and life if i take control of such simple things that i have control over....

and i move on with this 'hopeless faith' embracing life with all its highs and lows and with a smile that sees me through all times.....

I still do matter..
I still can make a difference....
I still have options and
I still have choice to choose hope over hopelessness, faith over doubt, love over hatred and happiness over pain...

I just make bed first thing in the morning...

on life and memories!

Don't wait for the perfect moment to live life..

Moments are just not those that are created when you are happy or everything is just fine...

Instead go out and embrace life, create moments without waiting for it to happen - for today's moments lived are tomorrow's memories. You have ability and power to create beautiful ones and for that you don't have to be with the perfect person or wait for ideal conditions.

Create for you are to live with this person just now and with no surety of being with him again...

create for you will not revisit this place of time again....

create for life is happening now....

and tomorrow you will have stories to share and relive your today...

On seeing!

We see or read what we want to see or read.

We don't see or read WHAT IS!

The basis of most of our problems, skepticism, irritation, anger, frustration, fear, hopelessness, pain is we read way more than what is!

Seeing things for what they are and people for who they are is very simple!

And yet, this simple act takes aeons of time and umpteen births to learn and apply!
