Me, my Guru – on Sheikh Chilli, the dreamer!

“Guruji, I am doing sadhan as suggested by you. And yet, things are not going my way.  I am not saying I didn’t benefit but still, things didn’t work out my way” said one.

Though the language was fine and voice-controlled, the anger was evident for everyone present.

Most of us had this complaint today.

We wanted to be married and marriage didn’t end up being good. We wanted a job and we suffered because of our boss, colleagues et all in the job.

We wanted a house and the fluctuating EMI was raising our BP. We wanted to grow spiritually and we ended up losing our sleep and comforts. We felt it was very monotonous doing sadhan. It was depressive most of the time. We had mood swings. We felt we weren’t doing anything right, though she vouched for these techniques.

In short, no story of ours was romantic or rosy – in any field of our life. We were no doubt angry and frustrated not to forget depressed too!

And what did she do? Simply smiled, nodded her head and came up with one story that didn’t resonate with us. (resonate – to produce a positive feeling, opinion, to be understood, make an emotional impact)

“In a certain village lived a very intelligent man named Sheikh Chilli. He was the epitome of laziness. His wife was distressed because of his laziness as that caused abject poverty in their life. One day not having anything to eat, she asked Sheikh Chilli to go and get some milk and bring it home to make kheer. So, Sheikh Chilli went to his master and asked for some milk. His master gave him a pot of milk. Sheikh Chilli came home, found it empty as his wife had gone out, tied the pot of milk to the pole and slept on the cot near the pole.

Understanding post:

"And yet, things are not going my way.  I am not saying I didn’t benefit but still, things didn’t work out my way” said one." - This is the an oft-repeated complaint from almost every sadhak! When a person is weak he ends up being manipulative with his words. The moment you say "but" you have negated what you have validated. Observe your thoughts here. Observe your feelings here. Why are your words contradictory to each other? Look closely and find the problem area to be healed!

"Though the language was fine and voice-controlled, the anger was evident " - Though many are talking or saying words with a smile, there is immense anger behind that smile. Don't just practice talking with a plastic smile. Also, look into your emotions that you are trying to hide. People are going to get that vibe. Not all can be fooled with a plastic smile! Work on being genuine!

"“In a certain village lived a very intelligent man named Sheikh Chilli. He was the epitome of laziness. " - Look at the way adjective "intelligent" has been used here! Usually, cunningness, manipulative nature and deceit are regarded as "being intelligent". Listen to yourself when you are praising someone with such 'attitudes'. What exactly are you trying to tell? Be aware!
