On Deepavali - On cleaning during Deepavali

On Deepavali

On cleaning during Deepavali

It is a ritual in India to clean every nook and corner of our house and place of work before the onset of Deepavali – the festival of lights! We perform Pooja to Ma Lakshmi – The Goddess of Wealth! We believe that we receive in abundance “the wealth” depending upon how clean our house is!!! So, rich and poor, small and big residents is busy cleaning the entire house. Everyone is busy cleaning their premises. Those who don’t clean regularly also clean without fail before Deepavali. Such is the custom and belief!

Now, what is the connection between this festival and cleaning? Is it just a superstition? Should it be brushed aside thinking to be as baseless as idol-worship (as supposed by many well-read intelligent westernised mind-sets!!??)?

No, it is basic common sense that a person is healthy in a clean environment only. Covid has taught this basic principle to one and all in the entire World. So, I don’t need to emphasize on that here again. So, moving on, only a healthy person can be more productive and thereby earn more than a sick person. That is point one. Next is, that you spend less on medical expenses when you are healthy, which also reflects in your financial abundance.

The next point is, that this is the season of cold weather in Eastern countries – more so in India. The rains have just left and there is a weather and climatic change that we find is conducive for microbial organisms to flourish. Was this also not emphasized during Covid – the sanitisation of the entire house? So, we do this in the name of religious ritual.
