Me, my Guru – On body and obesity!

Me, my Guru – On body and obesity!

Contd.....

‘Obesity is a ‘sin’ committed disease – meaning it is an outcome of over-indulgence. There is no dearth of anything. We’ve in abundance and we’ve misused that abundance purely out of our nature. And that way it is so very bad!

Two major diseases of this world and India in particular are obesity and malnutrition. Isn’t it ‘ironic’? Where one says there is more than abundance, the other reflects lack of basic requirements. Did you know that people dying of obesity and its related diseases is more than people dying of malnutrition? Check the world statistics please...do you call that a sad situation or a pathetic one? One who has feeds his body beyond its need and harms it! People need not starve at all if people who ‘gorged’ just gave up their ‘excess feed’.
Then there would be no dearth of food in world. No one would starve to death. One who gets it eats so that there is less left for others. In a certain class, I had a student bring a ‘sweet box’ of 1kg to class. I asked it to be distributed to all. The remaining was left in the kitchen by that student which was well over 3/4th of that kg. I went in after some time to arrange the kitchen after lunch was served saw two of my students filling their mouth with both their hands with ‘that sweet’ and when I asked them if they were hungry even after having lunch they said ‘no, but if we leave these sweets then you’ll enjoy it later and we feel jealous of you receiving so much from others whereas no one gives us such gifts. So we are eating and completing it now”.

I simply took one more empty box and put half of that ‘sweets’ in that box and gave them both those two boxes to take to their homes and enjoy eating in leisure rather than suffering eating ti in one go here. Can you imagine what they said “You are giving us this completely, that means you know you are going to get still more!”

How can I know or calculate how much sweet others would get here?  I couldn’t answer them. They suffered inspite of receiving the ‘entire box of sweets’! And their common complaint is ‘we do so much Guruji, yet we are not reducing weight. God knows why?’ How can they?

They don’t eat because they need to but so that others don’t. Ofcourse this is an extreme case!

Greetings Revathi mam,

I wanted to share my experience in this matter, It's unasked I know but this topic relates to one very good experience I have soo

Long ago.. may be 2-4 years down the line I remember reading it on the blog :

-------------------------------------------
Student: Why should I keep my body healthy or neat? It's my body and I will keep it as my as per my wish

Revathi Mam : What is that you like the most among the things you possess?

Student : My Sweater

Revathi Mam : If you lend your Sweater to your friend and if they return it back
dirty or in a Irrepairable condition will you feel good ?

Student : Certainly No, I might even ask them to buy me a new one!

Revathi Mam : Similarly this body is a gift given to you by God for some purpose! At the end he will ask you an account how well you have maintained his gift and how you have utilized it to serve your purpose!

It's your responsibility to keep it healthy, neat, clean(Internally & Externally) etc..

-------------------------------------------

This story/post hit me very hard.. I take very good care of my health since then. Earlier too I was concerned about looking good but I thought good appearance/health is by birth/luck etc.. and never cared so much about it or did anything consciously.

But now, there is a lot of transformation. I keep a check on what and how much I eat. I only foods which are good for health. Ofcourse I get attracted sometimes but it's like once in 2-3 months of so.

Even if I attend parties, marriage, functions etc.. I eat under limit. Gone are those days when I used to Gobble as if I'm eating after ages. :D

I don't eat sweets prepared from sweets shop, whenever I have sweet cravings I take "Dates/kishmish", I always stock them with me in my office desk or at home or worst case have Jaggery. It's good for health and that natural sweetness kind of gives fulfillment to your tastebuds too!

I walk around 2-3 kms daily (To & Fro while travelling between office and home).

Instead of rice I take oats with boiled vegetables & dal in dinner(4-5 spoons of oats, after you boil it kind of expands and is enough for 1 person)

It's not so difficult to give up junk / Unhealthy food if you do sadhan regularly. This has also been my experience.

Most importantly I do atleast 10 mins of "hands on" on my stomach after my breakfast/lunch/dinner daily :) Really helps!

all through i keep requesting all to share their understanding, experiences with all so how come it becomes 'unasked?'
share your inputs like this which will inspire others too and they will know that 'it is not difficult' and 'good health' is possible....
