Indian Mythology - Shiva Pooja - Me, My Guru

Contd....

And we assumed this was going to be just a story session with no
learning to do! Why did she have to teach something or the other in everything that she said? Could we see it as her commitment to teaching? That she was finding ways to get us to understand all that we needed to? Or was it that she was compelled by her nature and profession to lecture and teach on all occasions? But then we didn’t come to her to be entertained, right? Yes, for that we would go to some gaming spot or a film worth watching. We came here only with a single motto of finding ways to overcome our problems – be it physical or psychological, real or imaginary. Yet......yet her lectures get on to our nerves (well, not all, but many fore sure!) many times. I wondered why? Was it that she gave solutions to our problems that wished did not go away from our lives? Were we angry that if we followed what she was trying so desperately to explain, we would be left with one long boring life of happiness and peace? I mean what and how would a life be without our emotions and feelings of anger, envy, complaints and pain? That seemed more than right, though I didn’t vote on that. I didn’t want to, even it be 100% true! Yes, I loved to believe that the problem was more to do with her than us!

That relieved me of so much of guilt and suffering – not to mention responsibility.

“Madam, can you please tell us the procedures to do ‘pooja’ to Lord Shiva and Ma Parvathi for fulfilment of desires?”

I knew the one who asked it wanted a simple and straight answer – that of a pooja technique that could give him his object of desire. But, she being herself didn’t do as per his expectation and did what I feared her to do! She started explaining in and around the question.

“If you want to receive His Grace, there are various procedures for that one is to do ‘Abhishekam’ to a Shivalingam daily or at least on Mondays for fixed period of time (for those who believe in instant results and noodles!) Otherwise, it is best to do the same daily throughout life. The procedure for the same is very simple. Even plain water would suffice. Take water and pour – gently on the Shiva Lingam chanting ‘Mritunjaya Mantra’ or if you don’t know that mantra, then simple panchakshari mantra – ‘OM Namah Shivaya’ would do. Chant continuously as long as you are doing Abhishekam. If you are the one who doesn’t have a Shiva Lingam at home or your belief doesn’t allow you to have one at home, simply go to a temple near your house and pour water on it daily. (Some temples don’t let devotees do it. So check that out first! Most temples have a Lingam outside the shrine for the devotees to do Abhishekam).

Next would be chanting Mritunjaya Mantram atleast one mala i.e., 108times/day. Those who don’t have excuses of ‘heavy office work etc’ can do it as many times as desired. More is always better and if you ask me no number is ever more!

Again if you don’t know, I sincerely ask you to learn it. Yeh bade kaam ki cheez hai! It’s very useful....you can chant ‘Shiva Panchakshari’ otherwise 108times/day atleast. Preferably do it sitting in a place. You can chant while walking, driving in short while doing daily chores, just don’t take that into count.  That’s all!
By way of offerings, Bilva leaves are the most preferred ones....you can offer him bilva leaves, flowers etc.......

And then there are different poojas you can do depending on the object of desire. That you should ask a priest who is well-versed in the ritualistic form of know-how!
