Ugadi wishes to all of you!

Ugadi wishes to all of you!

Here are some of my heart felt wishes for you on this wonderful day of Ugadi – Visvavasu year!

May you never go to bed hungry,

However the bed, may you slip into deep sleep easily,

May your shadow always follow you,

May you have time to watch the ants march by.

May you never outgrow the joy of jumping in the puddle,

May you always chase butterflies, dragonflies and rainbows,

May you smile when you trip and fall,

May you laugh at yourself.

May you sing in your bath,

May you walk in the Sun enough to cherish the shade,

May you find the shade before heat beats you down,

May the cool breeze kiss your face as you walk on your path.

May you love your path,

May you find your way,

May you love your company,

May you choose right!

May you smile with your eyes,

May your heart be strong to speak the truth,

May you spread joy wherever you go,

May you change for the better with each day.

May you make better every change,

May you aim for the sky,

May you be grounded,

May you hold your dreams in your palms.

May you chase your dreams with vigour,

May you live life to the fullest,

May you treat all with kindness,

May you BE YOU!

Me, My guru – Little Patridges and the mighty Ocean – Bhagavatham!

Contd....

Me, My guru – Little Patridges and the mighty Ocean – Bhagavatham!

The Lord being omnipresent replied, “The eggs are in your ocean bed. Go and get them”.

The Mighty Ocean understood what the Lord meant. He dived in and brought out the eggs of the Patridge couple. He gave them to the Patridge couple. He stood with his head bowed in front of the Lord.

The Lord Vishnu now said to the Patridge couple “Now that you’ve got back your eggs, stop filling the Mighty Ocean with rubble. All of you go about your normal life. Forget all this and move on”.

Having got their eggs, the Patridge couple were overjoyed. They agreed to Lord Vishnu’s advice and left for their home after thanking all the birds for their help.

The rest of the birds too felt elated that they could help the Patridge couple in getting back their eggs. Everyone felt happy.

So, you see, “God also helps only those who help themselves!”.

Simply complaining, abusing God or begging doesn’t cause events to change or happen. We have to do our bit.

It is possible, someone has hurt, cheated or manipulated us. We can sit, complain and cry for the rest of our lives. That’ll not make an iota of difference though in the quality of our lives. Things will not change for the better. On the contrary, we’ll end up becoming bitter and bitter. We’ll lose our joy, peace and sleep over time. We’ll miss out on our living.

Me, My guru – Little Patridges and the mighty Ocean – Bhagavatham!

Me, My guru – Little Patridges and the mighty Ocean – Bhagavatham!

Very soon all the birds were doing just this job of filling the Mighty Ocean with rocks. Each carried a rock that it was capable of and started dumping it into the Ocean. This whole commotion was noticed by the King of birds – Garuda. After hearing the story of the Patridge couple, he felt it was his duty as their king to help them. So, he started getting the huge mountains, since he could and started filling the Mighty Ocean with it.

Garuda is the vahana (vehicle / mode of transport) for the Lord Vishnu. So, when Lord Vishnu had to go somewhere, he searched for his vahana. But, he did not find Garuda which was very surprising for it never happened so. So, Lord asked Garuda’s whereabouts. Lord was told that Garuda had gone to fill the Mighty Ocean with mountains.

Now, Lord Vishnu became curious and came to see what Garuda was up to. Looking at all the birds filling the Mighty Ocean with sand and rocks of varying sizes, he sought to find the reason for the same. Garuda took the Lord to the Patridge couple. They narrated their woe and resolve to him.

The Lord smiled and asked all the birds the stop their wok for sometime. They did as told – who wouldn’t when the Lord himself asked one to??!!

Now, Vishnu approached Mighty Ocean and asked him to return the eggs of Patridge Couple to them. The Mighty Ocean said, “But, I don’t know where they are”.

The Lord being omnipresent replied, “The eggs are in your ocean bed. Go and get them”.

Me, My Guru – On where there is a will, there is a way!

Me, My Guru – On where there is a will, there is a way!

Such a big star – such a busy schedule and still he would respect his spot boy’s request to attend the function in his house.

Amitabh Bachchan – the greatest living legend of Bollywood at times completes his shift at even 1 am. And yet he sits to write his blog post before going to bed. He is ever busy with ads, films, shows and whatnot.

And yet, when his driver of 30 years died, he not only attended the funeral, he gave a hand to lift his corpse. He stood with the family all through the day’s ceremony.

Are we more busier than these people? They take time for others’ forgoing their comfort and sleep. They express their humane quality in such simple acts. They could’ve given an excuse of ‘being busy’ or ‘mob would jump on us’ etc. but they didn’t find facts to be deterrent to fulfill their duties.

And, mind you, both these men exercise regularly. SRK at night – even at 2 am if need be and Amitabh Bachchan gets up at 4 am to complete his exercise before leaving for shooting.

Me, My guru – On keeping healthy

Me, My guru – On keeping healthy

“Just take a bath 1 hour before going to bed. Meditate after taking a bath for say 15mts in the least. Do not use phones, TV, or any gadgets. Just relax – reading a book or listening to music before going to bed” replied our Guru.

“Just that?” asked Vaishnav surprised.

“You wanted a simple solution right?” asked our Guru.

He nodded his head. He was beaming with joy.

We were dumbstruck. Did she really give an answer to such a question too? Why? How? But…we were lost.

She just smiled and continued the class.

We didn’t dare ask any further questions. If she had answered so immediately and so confidently, then it must work!!!

All we had to do was take a bath in the evening – but 2-2 ½ hours after eating. And also that we need to wait for an hour before going to bed after bath. So, we just had to time our bath accordingly! Such a simple routine – good on so many levels and yet….

Even Covid has taught us the importance of taking a bath after coming back from office/outdoor activity. But, we stopped it when Covid fear vanished!

Why couldn’t we stick to our ‘good habits’ even in good times? Did we always need external compulsive force to follow the ‘right way of living’? was it the reason we had to face such ‘hard situations’ in life? I wondered!

Me, My guru – On keeping healthy

“Guruji, we know the list of do’s and don’ts to keep ourselves healthy. Eat right, exercise, maintain cleanliness and have food, sleep and wake up at the right time – these are some of them. But, can you give us a simple easy for anyone to follow technique that could decrease the chances of us falling sick regularly” asked Vaishnav.

We all laughed. He always asked such questions. He wanted quick-fix solutions. He wanted immediate results. He was restless and lacked patience. His character was reflected in his questions. He was hurt and irritated when we all laughed. But our guruji’s answers dissipated them as fast as he had those feelings.

“Just take a bath 1 hour before going to bed. Meditate after taking a bath for say 15mts in the least. Do not use phones, TV, or any gadgets. Just relax – reading a book or listening to music before going to bed” replied our Guru.

    • The right way of living was the way of life for Indians since time immemorial.
    • Rituals and daily way of living were centered around spirituality and were hence wholistic.
    • The purpose of life was considered to be "Enlightened" or "Moksha" or "Freedom from life and death", or "Immortality". Call it by any name, each of these goals led one to super-consciousness only!
    • The body was considered the "best and must" vehicle that needs to be maintained right so that it aids one in the spiritual pursuit.
    • Body was not seen as the "be-all" of existence.

Reflections – On fear of missing out – FOMO!

Reflections – On fear of missing out – FOMO!

And to think I had even got up 1 hr earlier. I still had few techniques to complete in Reiki. But today it was just few essentials that I had completed. Already 1 am! Time to go to bed. Couldn’t listen to songs!

    Couldn’t think about my hobby!

    No me time today too!

Still so much household chores pending!

But now I shouldn’t think much about them. Maybe tomorrow!!

Maybe tomorrow I would get up 1 more hour earlier than today!

So you see, however much we squeeze in life, there will be things undone – always!

There always will be fun not chased.

Not every day we can have it all.

No! we let go of one today and next thing tomorrow. We rotate our work, activities, desires as musical chairs – on daily basis. This builds stress, dissatisfaction, irritation, disappointment and emptiness over time!

To one of the finest persons I know……Sarojini Teacher!

To one of the finest persons I know……Sarojini Teacher!

Sarojini Teacher was undoubtedly one of the favourite teachers in our School. Not just to me, but for every child you read in our School. No one knew her to be harsh. No one knew her shouting. No one knew her to be strict. No one knew her anything apart from “Being gentle”. If “gentleness” took a form, that was her. There was no second guessing on that among her students. As I was talking to some students, her grandson said something beautiful "You are her students and were for just a few hours a day. I lived with her for the past 30 years and I haven't seen her be rash or loud in my life". That is the QUALITY AND LEVEL OF GENTLENESS  I am talking about here!!!

This week so many of her students had been busy arranging her funeral!

Students came from far and near – some even after 45 years of passing out of her class! One can well imagine the impact and love her students received for them to come to her funeral. They just didn’t come to “see” and leave!

No! They stayed the whole of three days going through all the necessary work to be done. They were there doing all the jobs – small and all to make her final journey – complete!

No long lectures. No long talks. Just action – pure and complete. No excuses. No blowing their trumpets on what they did. They came, they did and they left. All with a heavy heart! The hearts which were filled with immense love, affection and respect for her and her personality!

She was more than what words could tell.

We bid her adieu to her mortal remains. She rose in us as a memory! She remained an inspiration to put “gentleness” into our acts. I haven’t seen anyone even near her in being gentle. She was far beyond the crowd to catch up. But, her presence promised a possibility that we all can reach. She showed us by living that attitude that it was within human reach!

I never understood where she got her resilience from!!  And to know that her life was not a bed of roses! I hadn't seen anyone face so much of pain, anguish, suffering, torture than her in life - day after day in their lives. And in spite of all that was her life, she remained ever so gentle, kind and always with a smile and a good word ONLY! Wow, what a lady!!!

The World always will need people like her. We need more people like her amongst us.

Now, in your life, you may have some teacher who has inspired you, helped you, trained you and has a special quality in him/her that is rare to come by. Write to that teacher for being such a special person. Call that teacher of yours and share your admiration for their special quality. Be specific about their ‘special superpower’ – that quality that sets them apart from the crowd. We are not talking here about saying " oh, you are so great" kind of words and praise. NO!! We are talking about some SPECIAL ATTITUDE AND QUALITY THAT IS RARE TO COME BY - like gentleness here (in example given).

Go share this joy with someone special in your life!

    On Wow moments!

    Contd…

    On Wow moments!

The common in all these moments is that all these moments are free of cost. They are available to one and all! We need not go out ‘do’ or ‘achieve’ something for it. We need not work for these moments. These priceless moments are ever present for all of us to relish and live. We need not ‘go’ anywhere to experience them. We need not ask others to help us get these moments. We don’t need to depend on others for these moments.

And these moments are spread all through the day! They are available 24/7 for one and all! All we need to do is ‘be available’ for them. We need to be ‘aware’ of them! We need to appreciate them. We need to just be on look out for them. They are there – spread throughout the day! And yet, we go by without noticing them. And when we notice we realize how priceless they are! We realize how rich we are! We realize how much happiness is within our reach!

Isn’t it? Did you realize this? Did you notice this? Were you not surprised with this knowledge?

Just by being aware of these little joys of life, your state of mind had been more calmer, happier and livelier than before - isn't it?

Read the above link to understand how situations don't decide our state of mind. Read to understand how we can be happy inspite of situations in life....

    Points to understand :

    • More or less everyone is going through the same stuff. The stuff is full of job and its demands and complications, relationships and their downside, financial insecurity, pandemic and other heath and social conditions.
    • Yet some people come across as more joyful, healthier and peaceful than most of the people we come across in our life. What is the secret?
    • We usually assume these people have all that we desire and hence are more content.
    • The fact is one who is content has seen more ups and downs in life than the average ones. Their life is more of a mess than most people around them. And yet they choose to look at little joys and wonders of life.

    • They haven't forgotten the 'art of wonderment' that we had as a kid. They still kept it alive in themselves. They laugh not because their life is a bed of roses. But because they don't some problem can come any second. So they don't want to miss out on this minute of joy.
    • They are grateful for little 'normal routine' things of life. Because they have found that what is normal is also very rare in their life.
    • think about it!
    • You are not loosing to circumstances and people in your life. You are losing to your mind. Beware! Read the given link below to remind yourself of the same - https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/search?q=hell+and+heaven

    Start of the day!

    Start of the day!

However late you get up, however busy you are start your day right!

Don't start your day by looking at your phone or TV.

Instead start by looking at the sky (while we still can!?), listening to birds singing, sunrise or just playing with your kid in bed. It need not be for hours, just couple of minutes also is good enough.

Start your day this way and see....

Don't let this thought create tension in you. Just go outside and be with nature - drinking your morning cup of tea/coffee....

If you are the one who doesn't drink any beverage good for you, have a glass of warm/cold water (honey added being optional) and enjoy your drink....this is for you to enjoy the morning ....don't do it as a 'oh, God, one more do to job..'

do it for just 3 days and get back with your feedback......

    # small things matter, right start, good and bad days, mindset, perspective, attitude,

further read on similar topic : https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/search?q=i+make+my+bed

    Points to take :

    • All it takes sometimes is to make a right start.
    • A right mindset can alter the course of the events.
    • When the mind is in happy or calm zone it handles every eventuality in a better way.
    • When the mind is agitated even a small things go off handle and then bitterness seeps into every mood, act of ours.
    • Situations don't cause us to be bitter. Our state of mind when we face them makes us bitter or better persons.
    • Think about it!
