To one of the finest persons I know……Sarojini Teacher!

To one of the finest persons I know……Sarojini Teacher!

Sarojini Teacher was undoubtedly one of the favourite teachers in our School. Not just to me, but for every child you read in our School. No one knew her to be harsh. No one knew her shouting. No one knew her to be strict. No one knew her anything apart from “Being gentle”. If “gentleness” took a form, that was her. There was no second guessing on that among her students. As I was talking to some students, her grandson said something beautiful "You are her students and were for just a few hours a day. I lived with her for the past 30 years and I haven't seen her be rash or loud in my life". That is the QUALITY AND LEVEL OF GENTLENESS  I am talking about here!!!

This week so many of her students had been busy arranging her funeral!

Students came from far and near – some even after 45 years of passing out of her class! One can well imagine the impact and love her students received for them to come to her funeral. They just didn’t come to “see” and leave!

No! They stayed the whole of three days going through all the necessary work to be done. They were there doing all the jobs – small and all to make her final journey – complete!

No long lectures. No long talks. Just action – pure and complete. No excuses. No blowing their trumpets on what they did. They came, they did and they left. All with a heavy heart! The hearts which were filled with immense love, affection and respect for her and her personality!

She was more than what words could tell.

We bid her adieu to her mortal remains. She rose in us as a memory! She remained an inspiration to put “gentleness” into our acts. I haven’t seen anyone even near her in being gentle. She was far beyond the crowd to catch up. But, her presence promised a possibility that we all can reach. She showed us by living that attitude that it was within human reach!

I never understood where she got her resilience from!!  And to know that her life was not a bed of roses! I hadn't seen anyone face so much of pain, anguish, suffering, torture than her in life - day after day in their lives. And in spite of all that was her life, she remained ever so gentle, kind and always with a smile and a good word ONLY! Wow, what a lady!!!

The World always will need people like her. We need more people like her amongst us.

Now, in your life, you may have some teacher who has inspired you, helped you, trained you and has a special quality in him/her that is rare to come by. Write to that teacher for being such a special person. Call that teacher of yours and share your admiration for their special quality. Be specific about their ‘special superpower’ – that quality that sets them apart from the crowd. We are not talking here about saying " oh, you are so great" kind of words and praise. NO!! We are talking about some SPECIAL ATTITUDE AND QUALITY THAT IS RARE TO COME BY - like gentleness here (in example given).

Go share this joy with someone special in your life!
