Me my Guru – On Dilip kumar,
depression and need to heal
“I don’t know if the present
generation knows it, but one of the greatest actors of Bollywood was Dilip
Kumar whose career-best years were 1950’s and 60’s”.
Our Guru started today as she sat in
the class. She started straight away. There was an air of excitement,
puzzlement and mystery when it happened so. We didn’t know what the topic was
about. We didn’t know where it was leading. That made it all the more
intriguing.
She continued “The Dilip Saab as he was
called had to battle ‘depression’ in the 50’s after giving a series of hits. He
took the help of a psychiatrist. The Doctor said or told him that the sad,
depressive roles that he was playing on-screen was affecting him. He SHOULD
stop playing those roles completely till he recovers fully. The Doctor
suggested that he play lighter romantic and comical roles instead. It was on
this advice that the Dilip Saab who had played “Tragedy King” in films like Devdas
was seen doing movies like Kohinoor. Contd....
