Why do we sleep during meditation?

Why we get sleep while doing reiki or meditation?

Refer to comment dt. 25/6/14 on Note by Madhumita “I open your blog every morning. Thanks for sharing so much with us. Just had one doubt - manytimes I feel very sleepy while doing reiki and am unable to work on all the points. What would be the reason for such drowsiness? on Note

There is no medicine for cold and hence syrups have alcohol that puts one to sleep.  Because any doctor will tell you that it is not the syrup but the sleep that lets body heal itself.

Yes, body has the innate capacity to heal itself.

Medicines only aid in that act.  They don’t heal per se! any goor or right medical practice is to let body take over healing and homeopathy, ayurveda, yoga and such practices follow this rule.  That way they are ‘wholistic’ i.e., take the complete picture into account and don’t heal ‘part by  part’ as in allopathy.

Do ‘drugs’ (I mean the toxic kind like heroine, etc and alcohol) also do good for the body as they also put one to sleep?)

There is a difference in the type of sleep that alcohol etc induce.  Alcohol and such drugs as heroine etc trigger the imagination part of brain and cuts the connection to that part of brain that recognises pain.  This is a chemical process that damages the nerves and related organs and hence the painful death of the addict. (I haven’t completely discussed the medical procedure for the same here….i have done it so many times in our class..)

...contd.....
