Me, my Guru – on perception

Me, my Guru – on perception

Our Guru once was telling a story when I entered the class “Duryodhana was very angry with Bhishma for suggesting Yudhishtra’s name for the coronation. He went to Bhishma and asked “In what way is Yudhishtra better than me? Why do you prefer him over me? Why can’t I be a king?”

Bhishma simply called Yudhishtra and smiled and said “You Duryodhana, go and find 5 good people in this kingdom and bring them to me.

Yudhishtra, you go and get 5 bad persons to me”.

They both left. In the evening, both came back empty-handed. Bhishma asked, “Where are the 5 that I asked you to bring?” To which Duryodhana replied, “There are only cheaters, thugs, and useless scoundrels in our kingdom. I couldn’t find even one good person to bring to you”.

When Bhishma turned to Yudhishtra, he replied “Sir, I searched far and wide but found all to be kind, generous and hard-working. They all are good people. I couldn’t find even one bad person to bring to you”.

needless to say read the entire post by continuing to click 'newer post' at the bottom of the link given above till it comes to an end....so many points in each day's post.....

get back to me with your insights, observations, comments....bye the way, read the comments too - some of them yours maybe but worth going back to your own comments - they speak a lot on your behalf.......

Helpful tips:

This anecdote is from Mahabharata - One of the two great epics of Vedic Philosophy popularly known as Hinduism. Any sensible Hindu would approach these Epics to get answers to his questions of this life and above too! Sage Vyasa after writing the Mahabharata had proclaimed "What isn't in this Mahabharata wouldn't happen in this World. All that is in this World is found here!"

As a kid I thought "What audacity!" and I was floored at this Sage's audacity. How high can one's arrogance be when it is based on Truth?

Points to ponder:

  • Buddha sees buddha everywhere and in everyone.
  • And the impure will see impurity in everyone.
  • The flawed will see flaws in everyone.
  • You are what you read - know that to be true!
  • People are just mirrors reflecting who you truly are!
To understand this point given is a link https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/search?q=prince+sugar read this old post and your queries will be answered

  • If one is unable to see good in the other (within one's circle) then may be that one needs to go within and check on his own feelings and nature...??

Me, my Guru – on perception

Bhishma smiled, turned to Duryodhana, and said “You see; you couldn’t find even one good person in our kingdom whereas Yudhishtra couldn’t find even one bad person in the same kingdom. This is the quality required of a leader. Each person will have some weaknesses. But a leader is one who can see the good or some capability in him and put that to good use. That way, every person can be utilised for some good in him for the benefit of the kingdom. That way our kingdom will prosper.” Duryodhana went away angrily.

So you see, leader is one who can see good in all. This doesn’t apply to leader or a Guru, it applies to each one of us. The more I train to see and appreciate the good in others, the more the divine in me strengthened. That is the ‘psychic impression’ called samskaras that we carry over the janmas. That in turn decides the quality of our life. That is how destiny is formed. The asura in me will see ‘flaws’ in Lord Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus or even Mother Theresa. Now what to say of people in my life. This being the case, how can one expect ‘good relationships’ in ones’ life? It’s not that such people don’t get to have friends or family. No! everyone has. It’s just that such nature will attract similar mentality people/person in my life.

and

Points to ponder:

  • We all want others to respect us, listen to us, follow us. We want to have power and position to lead others.
  • But the qualities that are required to do so, we royally lack and don't care to develop.
  • The qualities of a leader or Guru are not rocket-science. They are simple and told umpteen times before. But following them, developing them SEEMS herculean task not by way of its implementation but because we don't want to develop those qualities. Why? That why each one of you should find it out for yourself.
  • Some of you may say "But, I don't want to maam" fair enough - just stop complaining that everyone is taking you for granted. You can't cry that you are not given a position of respect and power. You can't seek the perks of being a leader or a Guru - remember that!

Time for Homework:

Pick up any one quality that you don't want to develop /overcome - say laziness, indiscipline, punctuality, regularity, participation in group activities - and so on and so forth. Meditate on it and get back with your responses if you please. Even if you don't want to put it up in blog, still do the exercise and jot it down in your journal.....
No need to do any follow up action on these qualities. Just meditate and write it down. It may take couple of weeks for some to understand the reason behind even one quality - no problem...just do it...
Sit in meditation just 15mts per day. The day you start getting answers start writing it down.

Me, My Guru - On perception

...contd...

I received an urgent call and had to leave immediately. I silently got up and left without making much of commotion. I silently signalled her that I am leaving and she nodded in silence. Having received her permission, I left the session half-heartedly.

At the start, i.e., when I had recently met her and when she answered thus I would get irritated. I would think “What did I ask and what is she talking?” It actually took lots of sessions with ‘her’ and others to overcome that ‘irritation stage’.

Next, I experienced a stage where I started accepting her way of answering. Even here, I didn’t understand her answer though. Lots of healings later, I developed a faith that she would give what I ‘needed’ though not what I ‘wanted’ most of the time.

Now after 20 years of association with her and years of hands-on, meditations and many more hours of other healing and counselling sessions, today I can see that she doesn’t answer the question, she answers the person.

She has been the same always!

But healing had helped me to see her same act in better light over the years. I developed clarity of thought and perception that helped me to see the ‘Truth’ is correct light. The reason for which I used to get irritated with her, now I see it as her love for us. I see her hard-work and pure intent. I also can see where other ‘masters’ come from and where she comes from. And this perception spilled over my other relationships too and that has affected my relations in general with everyone.

So truly said “You can’t understand a person if you see that person topically or based on one issue. You need to know the intent”.

She had said like a million times “The whole is more than sum total of all its parts put together”. Now I get a glimpse of it. As long as I tried to understand her acts I was wrong – almost always. But the day I worked on my perception, I could see everything so clearly. The work in this area has just started. I need to work lot more yet. And still the results I got are amazing. Not surprising that all scriptures shout from roof top to correct attitude of ‘perception’.

I had my methods to carry on this healing and I had promised myself to become more sincere in t his work.

Now the shift has happened. It’s no more of judging her, knowing her or questioning her. It had become internal. I have gone inside from outside. When and how it happened I don’t know. But my anger on her this time really did me ‘good’. How? Well that’s for other time, I’ve now reached my office and I need to focus here for now..........

Me, my Guru – on perception

Me, my Guru – on perception

One enjoys that which he has. The other complaints about everything that he has.

It is just not a small habit. It is a lifestyle we are choosing. It is the way we are charting our destiny. It is the way; we are painting our future “You are a writer of your fate”.

Write right every single time!

These small acts and choices will decide the tilt towards your pain or pleasure.

Don’t come to me and ask “but, why is it happening to me maam?” on a later date.

Initially, it is tough to make the change. But sadhan, sadhan and more sadhan.

Make a conscious decision to develop Rama within. Choose to express ‘divinity’ which is within you. To let it express, be aware of your words, thoughts and feelings. Be alert enough to catch them.

Every time you catch yourself titling towards ‘asuric nature’ use the required technique and develop the ‘divine nature’. Develop it. It is an everyday practice. Muscles are not built over night. Similarly, the way the mind thinks and feels has to be developed with practice and patience. We have all the time in the World. Put it to good use.

And the good news is no need to go anywhere to develop ‘Rama’ within you. Just use everyday situations to do this sadhan.

Being ‘Vedantic’ is to do this. Just saying ‘Jai Ram’ doesn’t make you a ‘Hindu’. The real Bhakta is one who lets ‘Rama’ within express himself. Blessed are all who listen to such calls and wake up. Blessed also are those who just listen. But, more blessed are the ones who have decided to establish ‘Rama’ in their consciousness – Jai Siya Ram!!!

{Points to be understood and questions addressed}

  • Our outer world is a reflection of our inner world.
  • Now everyone is talking about World coming to an End, pollution, End times etc etc.....all that is a reflection of the quality of human character in general....sum total of all the attitudes of the human race is reflected as outer chaos....
  • If we love our kids and want our 'vansh' - lineage to continue we have but one way to do that - make a huge change within each one of us....we want to change the world and save the World....it looks like an impossible task what we politicians and people in power not seeing so....but if that can be achieved by millions of 'ordinary persons' making a change within, then is it not a 'possible dream?'
  • Make change happen - however small it may - but make small changes happen within and see your life and the quality of life in this entire World change for the better.....
  • But make reasons for being what you are justifying it with illogical reasoning then we need to see the worst times to come....no other people other than adamant nature - the one not wanting to change is the cause of our pain and suffering to come - Covid was just a teaser - the best of such ones are yet to come....wake up, make a change or suffer - the choice is ours to make.....

Food for thought:
Those who think that our thoughts are impacting the Global Warming, Globally in every way instead of beating ourselves up, let's do something constructive for a change....
Let's do Earth healing for next one week to come.....
come back with  your experiences, observations and suggestions....

Me, my Guru – on perception

Me, my Guru – on perception

If you are Rama, you’ll be having brothers like Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrugn. Will be one married to spouse who is untempted(I don't think there is one such word, chalo I donate this word to English language)  by any levels of material riches. She’ll be faithful to you. You’ll be blessed with followers like Hanuman. But, if the asura in you is fanned then you’ll be surrounded by brothers Vibhishina who will desert you. That is, if your brother or sisters are good ones, they’ll leave you when you are wrong. Or if they are not the good ones and just like you, then they’ll bring about your downfall like Surpanaka. You’ll be tempted to choose riches over relationships like Ravana selected riches over Kubera, his brother. And what a downfall he had!

Even in ordinary situations, choosing to see good will develop gratitude, clarity of thought, humility and opportunity in every situation. We’ll experience love, affection and happiness in life.

But the more we tend to look at flaws and shortcomings, the more cynical, bitter and suspicious we become! And, I don’t need to tell you how these qualities impair our judgement, decision-making, state of mind, peace of mind and happiness!

The one who has taken a clue from Yudhishtra will see opportunity in every problem. And the one who follows Duryodhan will end up seeing the problem in every opportunity.

One regrets life. One celebrates life. One yearns for affection, and love, the other earns it. One drives people away from his life, and the other attracts all towards himself.

*untempted - meaning who is not tempted....

Questions addressed and points to ponder:

  • Why do I have such a family /friends circle?
  • Bad part of the story is that we are responsible for having the kind of family that we have in life. The good part of that story is we can make a difference in our equation with same when we change for better. We can also go for healing the same with various techniques.
  • What we are given is part of our karma. What we do with it reflects our attitude and that is in present. Depending on how we deal with situations will decide our future!
Time for some homework:

Pick up a relationship that is the most difficult one in your life. Heal that one for next three - 3 days.

Any one having experience with emotional healing even in the past can get back with their experiences....

August has always been special month for me - all my life for more than one reason. Added to it is this reason - Reiki that defined my life, worth and utility in areas and ways I did not imagine. I spend this month in gratitude for 'all that I received till day' - not for what I expect to receive. (already explained in the blog post given here - https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/search?q=Nirmaldas).

This month can be called a 'Month of Grace' where I share or remind myself of all that I received through and because of Reiki.

Me, My Guru - On perception!

Me, My Guru

On perception!

It was well past three months since the day I left her place with broken heart. (To understand this statement and to go back to prelude of this story read the link given under)
http://kantipadam.blogspot.in/search?q=work+on+essence&max-results=20&by-date=true

Even today, it wasn’t my idea to come. Rahul had come over to my place and dragged me here. He was his usual self. From his talk and manner, it was obvious that he didn’t realize the ‘real reason’ of my absence at ‘her’ place. In fact I found out that no one had realized the reason when I went over to her place. Everyone was their usual self. Only I had changed and so did my ‘feelings’ for ‘her’.

Ofcourse, it was even ‘odd’ of me to think that someone would assume that I had felt ‘cheated’. I didn’t have the heart to say ‘no’ to Rahul so came along with him.

Previously, I would’ve wondered “did ‘she’ send him? Or did he come on his own?”

“Is ‘she’ ignoring me on purpose?”

“She ‘knows’ these things, then why didn’t she call me or try to contact me?”

Such of questions would’ve eaten up major part of my brain (I mean, what little was left of it). But not this time! No, it was not a conscious effort. But I myself was surprised that this change has come over me. I was observing myself. I was trying to analyse and understand my emotions and feelings for her. Nothing remotely that of anger or pain! I was surprised. I didn’t do any healing for the same but still for the volume of ‘heart break’ I had, I surely should be having a ‘bleeding heart’ (pain) and a ‘burning stomach’ (angry). But I didn’t experience either of such feelings. It was odd.

Bad that I couldn’t discuss or share it with anyone! Being in a ‘cornered situation’, where i could do nothing much about it, I just let it be!

I heard from Rahul that she was giving lectures on “Bhagavatam” since 3 months and there were quite a crowd who attended these classes. When we reached her place, we found ourselves in the last row. Her oratory skills were surely ‘par excellence’ and so no doubt so many wanted to attend these classes.

Many of us had pleaded her to take courses on these ‘scriptures’ since long. She had atlast come around to doing it.

“Yashoda, look your ‘Kanha’ has eaten mud again” someone shouted from behind. Yashoda didn’t wait to check to see who it was. She knew her ‘kanha’ very well to believe it to be true. He has of late become more mischievous than before. She needed to be more alert and also sterner with him. He wasn’t even least bit afraid of her. Today he had crossed all boundaries.

“Mud! Oh my God!” What would become of him? She wasn’t aware of her pallu (upper part of her garment) flying high or stones pricking her feet. She ran faster than she could to catch him playing in the mud in the courtyard. Knowing very well his answer which would as ever be a lie, she asked nevertheless “Kanha, did you eat mud?”

With those beautiful large eyes rolled up he replied “Of course not mother”.

...contd....
