“Guruji, we know
you must’ve heart it million times, yet we have the same reasons to dislike
him”.
“You’ve given
explanations like zillion times yet........”
“It’s still
difficult for us to accept the fact that he left Sita Maa in forest especially
when she was pregnant. He’s a bad example to all men and we women are bearing
consequences of that act of his. Men quote him and ask women to prove her
purity, blame woman randomly and get away with all their unpardonable acts”.
Everyone seemed
to vomit their long suppressed anger on to her.
“Guruji, you’ve
explained it like thousands of times as to why Rama sent Sita to exile. But,
please can you say something on this subject again? Maybe, we are ready to see it
from a different angle” pleaded Saritha.
I liked her
angle of enquiry. It hit me then. We didn’t understand many issues not because her
explanation fell short of its worth but because we were not ‘ready to see’ it. How
true! ‘Being not ready’ could be because of umpteen reasons like being too
clouded with oru emotions like anger, hurt, pain or hatred. It could also be
that we did not want to understand because that would mean we could no longer
behave the way we did. Yes, understanding brought with it a responsibility to
be more balanced and act in a mature way. We weren’t ready to let go off our
kiddish behaviour. We were afraid of losing our power to be adamant, selfish and
rash. Yes, we were not ready in so many ways to ‘see the obvious’.
And only ‘healing’
helped us to throw away our insecurities enough to look at the facts the right
way!
Yes, we
understand when we understand because we choose to then – not otherwise. Was it
‘love’ that propelled her to be patient with us and be with us ‘till we were
ready to see and accept?”
