Me, my guru – On finding the way!

Me, my guru – On finding the way!

“Guruji, why is it that I am not able to overcome my weaknesses?” asked one among us.

“Guruji, I am not able to forgive someone in my life. What do I do about it?” asked another.

“Guruji, I am lost. I don’t see any hope or a way out.” Cried someone else.

She was sitting with her eyes closed in a relaxed manner. Even without opening her eyes, she replied “If it is important to you, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.”

Then, she went into silence.

Having nothing much to say, we left her alone.

We got our answer. It’s just that we didn’t understand it. And those who said they did, didn’t know where and how to apply it.

Were we at fault for not being able to understand or was she at fault for not explaining in detail? I guess now was not the time to get that answer!

Me, My Guru – On where there is a will, there is a way!

Me, My Guru – On where there is a will, there is a way!

When such public figures are not finding excuses to not exercise, attend social calls and so on, can we? When we find reasons for not ‘having time for sadhan’, are we telling ourselves or others that we are busier than these men!!?? We don’t need to sneak at the middle of the night like these celebrities. And yet for our own good, we lack time! Is it for real? If you are not your own priority, don’t cry, or complain. Complain or feel bad when things go wrong and you lack the strength to face them.” Our Guru left us for some time at that. She didn’t tell much. We didn’t dare ask any.

We knew where we stood. Today, we kept silent.

And, for many days to come her one sentence kept ringing in our ears “IF your desire is strong, you’’ make time – come what may! If there is a will, there is ALWAYS A WAY! If there is a will – that is!”

Me, My Guru – On Hindrances in problem solving

Contd....

Me, My Guru – On Hindrances in problem solving

Apart from such persons, don’t talk about it to one and all – not even to yourself 10 times a day. If you need to think about an issue, then there is a way to do it.

First, take out time and relax. Then look at the problem with an intention of finding a solution and a better way of handling it.

Then once a decision or solution is noticed, act on it.

Next be man enough to bear the consequences of your choice, action and decision. Everyone wants power but hardly people come forward to bear the responsibilities that come with power!

The slips that can happen in this are

1.     when we sit to understand a problem we get carried away with our emotions. We don’t look at them from distance.

2.     Hence, we tend to judge the situation

3.     Result, we can’t see the solution

4.     We question as to why it happened or didn’t happen in a certain way. Don’t do that.

5.     We compare our situation with others’ and become jealous. Again we go on roller-coaster ride of pain and suffering.

6.     We keep repeating to ourselves and to others as to how other is wrong. Our agenda is not about healing the situation. It is not about handling it. It becomes more of proving that the other is bad and cause of problem. Result – even if proven so, situation doesn’t change. So, we end up with this pain more than before!

Avoid these pitfalls!

Points to remember and understand :

  • When ever one faces a problem in life, instead of looking at it with complaints, anger and frustration, if one looks at it with love, calm and a desire to solve it, one will find the solution faster than later.
  • First overcome the irritation that you get when faced with a problem.

Grace healings – Swathi – for determination to complete the sadhan!

Grace healings – Swathi – for determination to complete the sadhan!

Bless you!

Will send Reiki for 3 days!

Couldn’t do the said sadhan in the allotted time. Normal!

But, taking that up and doing it at a later date – very rare!

Commendable – for that discipline, commitment, desire to complete the task though a bit late, overcoming shyness and fear of rebuke by others (assumed usually by others) for doing sadhan beyond the said date.

This also states that she is working on “completing the task given by her Master” rather than finding excuses to not be able to do it.

Yes, we may have reasons that make it difficult to complete the task, but finding a way to go around that “reason” is a mark of a spiritual sadhak. Kudos for that! That shows she is a "shishya" in letter not just in word. https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/2009/07/guru.html

Just see – in a simple way we exhibit and develop all these qualities. Every job/responsibility/routine is there in our life to develop such qualities that make us. These are the ways we develop the qualities essential to walk the spiritual path. https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/2020/09/me-my-guru-role-of-guru.html

These are the ways we come closer to our spirit.

These are the ways we disengage ourselves from our ego.

And that in turn loosens the hold of “karma” over us and our destiny.

And you thought, it was just a normal boring sadhan that could be done at your leisure!!??

Destiny – you make it or break it – with your daily routine.

Do not use Gurus, Reiki or God to abuse for your lapses in developing these qualities.

Destiny is literally in our hands – especially as a Reiki Channel!

Write it your way!

The greatest curse of Kaliyuga – Praising and fault-finding – Me, My Guru

Contd........

The greatest curse of Kaliyuga – Praising and fault-finding – Me, My Guru

This statement hit us! We were here to get healed – that was OK, but now when she said ‘if you don’t change for better you are changing to become more negative’ was a sure eye-opener! During lunch we all discussed this and realized it to be true. In qualities that we were working we were growing positively – i.e., if I was irritated 10 times a day and I realized this nature in me and had accepted to work on it, then over the years my irritation has really come down. The number of issues where I got irritated also decreased over the years. Now I was more in control of events that they overtaking my emotions.  But as everyone knew I still hadn’t improved in the area of ‘punctuality’. Where I had improved very commendably in few other areas, here I had only worsened – not in terms of coming (more) late but by way of justifying it and putting the blame on anything but me! Now I had almost become an expert in convincing others infact made them feel sorry for being late. Yes, this attitude has changed for worse! We all applied to various aspects of our personality and found that contrast so clearly that it frightened us a bit.

Thankfully someone asked “ then how do we break that pattern and outgrow our every negativity and what are the reasons which are responsible for this to happen?”

“As already told by me – the twin qualities of praising and fault-finding make it important for us to grow in every direction” she, our Guru ventured to explain “Let me explain..Suppose after lunch someone says “maam pongal (a dish made with rice and pulse like porridge) is very tasty” to which asks ‘X’ says ‘how did you prepare’? and I give out the recipe and X retorts “Oh! I too make it the same way. I just don’t add ghee to it. If we add ghee, even our pongal would’ve been good!”

Or take a second case where one of you say “I like this story which you just said” to which ‘X’ says “I already heard my grandmother tell me so many times before. It’s an old story”.

In both the cases ‘X’ could’ve simply been silent and let the ‘praise’ of others stay. But it was not to be so! Why? (Here, that’s immaterial to let’s move ahead....). X could’ve improved either cooking and took the moral of the story if only had not resorted to fault-finding.

Look at these examples –

A: His discourse was excellent
B: But his daughter went for inter-case marriage

A: what a great artist!
B: but a divorcee!

A: she cooks so well
B: But she wears nightie (night gown) (and yes even that can be pointed as a negative trait in someone)

A: just look at his palatial bungalow
B: but he doesn’t have sons.”

We all laughed when she gave these examples. Most of us had heard it first-hand but hadn’t given it a thought. Now everything was sounding clear. Then we just found others’ responses odd and out of place. Now we saw that they made sense – about the other person’s character or rather lack of it!

Me, My Guru

........contd.....

I could see no problem there.  Both of them were very clearly messed up with imagination.  That's all!  Her brother wanted to do MS and was guilty of not being able to get a job?  Clear case of confusion reigning strong!  How can someone give solution to this issue?" I wondered.

My Guru smiled, patted her hands and started "Krishna said to Arjua "Even small karma finds its way to its doer and give results.  But, even I don't know as to which karma comes when, in which form and why only then? If Lord himself can't exactly say which karma we are undergoing now, how can I a simple mortal explain that?

But, one thing I know, whatever we are experiencing it's cause surely is in our past actions.  What is the purpose of knowing which karma?  Does knowing the cause of cancer make any difference in the suffering or the growth of cancer? When the answer is no, then instead of knowing why we got cancer, we should ask the question what is the cure for it and how to combat cancer now once I get it. Right?

Likewise, put your energy in facing the situation and finding a solution to it - rather than finding the reason for situaton to exist.  By trying to find the cause, we are trying to find a path in darkness and thereby want to wallow in self-pity which will give rise to anger because we are suffering and envy because others don't seem to suffer our pain.  This way our pain increases and we are deep into the quagmire of pain and suffering.  And when Dr. declares us as "Depression" patient, we find it as a support to be in that state and are rejoicing at and with this badge of Depression?  Do you want it?" she asked and her voice was stern.  It was too evident.

Radhika looked a bit shaken.  She couldn't say yes, I believe and said "no, no, i don't want that.  Tell me a way to come out of it".

For and on August 15th

For and on August 15th - sadhan...

Further to https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/2021/08/for-and-on-august-15th.html?showComment=1631673474387

Kudos to all who have completed 108 malas of MM as decided in the link...

May blessings of all Guru's descend on you all!

May Guru's grace also descend on all those who couldn't complete and yet want to complete it. Hence they have decided to do this in few more weeks time...kudos to that initiative too!

There was a time when some of you would give reasons to 'not being able to do' but now you have decided to do and have found ways to do this.....it's okay even if you are not able to do the same in decided amount of time...the point is about the decision to complete the work taken and with eagerness to do it...

the growth in you is there - in that attitude that you have dropped - that of finding excuses to not being able to do the work taken or you ought to...

and

in that attitude of you finding a way around your limitations to complete the work taken or decided to do....

This shift itself will bring abundance in ways more than you can even realize now....just be with this attitude and keep building it up every time you get a chance to cement it further with your actions and intentions...bless you for this growth for now.........

I don't know how many of you have noticed this but this is just not about a change in your attitude. It is just not that! I wouldn't be behind you for just that all these years! It is much more than what meets the eye! With this small shift your self-worth has increased in your own eyes. This has made you appreciate yourself a little more than before. You are able to 'love' yourself a little better. This small shift also brings shift in love for your own sweet self! And that is what I was looking for and aiming for.

And as I see it happen once, I am sure you will make it happen in other areas too. And slowly maybe, but surely you'll cover other areas sooner than later to fall in love with yourself - the way it was meant to be! That day you'll know what it is to be 'romantic' in real sense. I am writing your love story with your self through all these sadhan techniques. You look for material benefits. Yes, they will come and go! They are bound to happen. But most important is that you fall in love with yourself first! And this time I see it happen with so many of you! Thank you all for completing this part of journey till here - for now! But don't relax or stop! Just keep working and keep going......the goal is reachable and doable!

and those who didn't take it up after couple of days - no problem - you tried and lost once again to your poor determination and will power. Now that you know where your problem area is, work on those qualities in your daily routine sadhan through various techniques and over come it - soon....all the best for the same......

Each one has the right to set the pace of your growth. Just don't feel inferior to others or be jealous of others when some one seems to go ahead of you by way of sadhan. Cheer every one in sadhan - even if you are not doing it. Develop that character for now!

Tell me your experiences with this sadhan...look within and see the effect it has on you....and share if you care...

share your journey - the distance covered for others to be inspired by your story and milestones reached by you.....

The greatest curse of Kaliyuga – Praising and fault-finding – Me, My Guru

Contd.........

The greatest curse of Kaliyuga – Praising and fault-finding – Me, My Guru

“Then praising others should be good. How can it be its twin evil? Please explain Guruji” asked someone among us.

She straight away started giving examples and it really was funny to hear from her mouth. She always made them sound humorous. There was never a taunt in her voice.

“A: Her pongal tastes so good.
B: But her house is not kept clean.

A: his discourse is good.
B: yes and listen to his telugu

A:He is such a great artist
B: he comes from the family of artist

All through ‘B’ is praising and agreeing to what ‘A’ is telling but also see how the praise takes the limelight away from the ‘quality’ and highlights the reason behind it or some other trivial quality like telugu (language here), family etc. The point being the ‘purpose’ is lost completely by this praise. And since its praise nobody can find fault in it and yet the purpose of ‘learning’ or getting ‘inspired’ to develop a quality or drop one is lost by simply killing that chance by that praise.

A: Rama was great son as he was able to leave his kingdom and go live a life of a celibate just so that his father could fulfil his promise.

B: Yes, that’s why he is called Great. Nobody can be like him..

B1:But that was possible as he was ‘God Incarnation’.

B2: In today’s world it is not possible!

Every reaction reeks of finding ‘an excuse’ not to rise up to his level. His life should be an inspiration to develop those qualities. What’s the use of reading his story, discussing his life and its incidents, listening to discourse if all we come out of saying “Oh! That’s why he is God! These scriptures are not read so that we know and accept him as ‘God’. They are talking of a ‘possibility’. They tell us ‘how to behave’ in such testing situations. But instead we.....” the way she rolled her eyes leaving the sentence mid-way – well we all ended up laughing our lungs out!

Genuinely praising the other is good – both for the other and us. It boosts other’s confidence and when we praise others our heart chakra gets healed automatically. We see the good in the other and that betters our perception over time. We outgrow our inferiority complex. It shows we are not insecure. But all this is possible only if the praise is genuine – not when it is flattery or some marketing technique to please the other.

But look at the motive of your praise!

Me, My Guru – On anger of Lord Shiva!

Contd....

Me, My Guru – On anger of Lord Shiva!

We were floored. We didn’t know what hit us and our senses and from where! Just then we heard a voice “so madam, when..”

“No!” she shouted strongly. She didn’t even let that person complete his statement or question whatever that was! “If you kill or hit someone it doesn’t and can’t come under this category. And bye the way, why are you asking about Lord Shiva’s anger? So that you can use that argument or answer to your emotion and act of anger towards a person whom you’ve assigned the role an asura in your head? Right? So, you have risen to a level of Shiva? Then, why do you need to know an answer from me or anyone for that matter? Since you are as good as Shiva, don’t you know everything yourself? How can you compare your anger to His? How smart do you think you are in trying to use His acts to justify yours? This is what I call as ‘crooked logic of Ravana!’. Using it he justified his acts and thought he was right. But was he? You can fool yourself to this belief but then that’s what you would end up being – a fool!”

Luckily for us, she left to receive a call! Phew! We felt relieved!

Yes, why did we want to know about God’s anger in the first place?

She said it right! We never had a single ‘right’ quality of a Guru, super humans like Rama, Jesus or Vivekananda but we used their life incidents to question their character and were ever ready with “but he shouldn’t do that. He is wrong no madam?” Who are we to judge these great people or Gurus? Leave alone them we didn’t leave the creator too. We were ‘good enough’ to judge the ‘Creator’ too! Wow! What arrogance! And we are good people and good devotees?! Such hypocrisy....

We had in a way become experts in finding faults so much that even Gurus and Gods came under our radar! Good for them and they are to still grace us by by fulfilling all our desires? If they didn’t we question their greatness and ask “But how can they get angry? They are not supposed to, isn’t it?” We decide everything that they are supposed to do and not do...

Why was I using their examples to hit, vent out my emotions and act as per my desire? Is it because deep down I know I am wrong and yet was so over powered by my emotions that I longed to flow with it and yet wanted an alibi that showed me in ‘good colour’? Is this smart move of mine actually a reflection of the flaw in my character which again is the basis of my fate? And I later asked ‘Why is my fate not good?’

The answers would surely not make me wee-bit good. So instead of searching for these answers I chose the easier way out. I chose ‘sadhan’! I chose sadhan to work on my weakness and then some time in future when I would be way ahead of my flaws, I would visit this ‘self analysis’ chamber more confidently. But for now, my action plan was ready!..

Guru

Where can I find a good guru in this Kali yuga? What are the qualities I should look for in a Guru? How do I select my guru?

First and foremost – we don’t select a Guru. Guru selects and accepts us as a disciple.

Next most important question is Guru’s qualities is the last thing that I need to look into if I am a true student /shishya. It’s the student whose attitude should be of a disciple and a seeker. Now what does that mean? It means a disciple should have the essential qualities of :
1. The never-die attitude of wanting to learn and unlearn all that he knows at every stage of his growth.
2. He should for the start drop the ego’s “But I already know this/heard it /red it, but just not able to apply…..” attitude. This is the most biggest tumbling block in the learning possibility of a student.
3. Surrender. Should be able to surrender to the Guru’s word and Command totally without a blink of an eye. Most difficult because of ‘I don’t want to lose my identity to get anything in return’ attitude.
4. Believe in guru’s word and intention without an inch of doubt. Belief that says Guru can do only good for me.
5. Do as the Guru asks you to do and not do as the Guru does – the most important one to follow.
6. Listen to Guru from emptiness and then imbibe all that is received from guru into one’s system.

Once having selected a Guru, who benefits the most from him? What is the best that can be had from a Guru?
It’s undoubtedly his Grace. Once, that is received then there is no looking back for that person. But, the grace necessarily need not benefit a seeker in physical, emotional or in financial betterment at all.

They may come as a by-product of Guru’s Sanidhyam – that is proximity. Here, proximity need not again mean physical proximity. The nearer you are the more you are thinking of your Guru, the more you are connected to him. So, thoughts connect you more to your Guru than sitting near him or for that matter any other thing in the world. So, always stay connected.

You receive what you seek from the Guru. If it’s physical and tangible benefits that you seek, that you’ll receive. If it’s intangible then that’s what you would receive. But, seek the best and the most treasured – His love and grace which is so rarely asked for itself. It takes you to Moksha and liberates you from the ignorance that binds you to the cycle of Karma.

Sometimes, because of past Karmas we may come across a Guru in our life, but our present attitudes and actions may take us away from his grace and proximity. The qualities that do this job effortlessly are complaining about Guru, asking and telling Guru how to be and by being jealous of you master /Guru.

Most cheapest of all characters certainly would be being jealous of a person who’s shown you the way to come out of all of your problems. But, instead of feeling and wishing good for him, if one is jealous of his Guru – then well, what do I say of such a person? Even devils would disown him.

The Most easiest to stop would be not being jealous of your Guru and next stop finding fault of your master. A student and his master are completely at two totally different platform which a student with his limitations can’t see or understand. Why a master does what he does or does not do what he doesn’t do can’t be understood by a student whose perception is always “I” driven. It’s not just difficult but impossible to gauge the Guru’s intention and purpose of doing or not doing something. So, just Do as the Master asks you to, don’t do as the Master does.

The student who is innocent is always nearer and receives the grace of his Master with no effort on his side. His mere innocence bestows Master’s grace onto his life. So, Drop the pseudo-logic and pseudo-intelligence if you wish to benefit from your Master’s presence in your life.

May the grace of the Master be ever on you……….

Garments

The basis of any good relationship should be and can be only when we agree to disagree.

The statement clearly explains that two persons are agreeing to disagree with each other’s opinion. Opinion is just not a conclusion that we arrive at based on facts & figures available to us. We add the tinge of our experiences, prejudices and also our feelings related with the related experiences to the facts and figures and view it and then stamp it as our opinion. This is not correctly arrived at as we are viewing the entire world with tainted glasses of ‘my likes and dislikes’. So our opinions change the moment we have a paradigm shift and our perspective has undergone a change. So why hold on to the shifting opinions so dearly that I am ready to let go off my near and dear ones for the sake of an opinion?

Opinion is mine, but I am not the opinion. It may change tomorrow but I still will be the same. So, I am clear that we can agree to disagree with regards to the opinion but still be loving and respecting each other for what we are.
Garments
Once upon the time, Beauty and Ugliness went for a bath in a sea. They both undressed and swam in the waters. After sometime, Ugliness came back to shore and garmented herself with the garments of Beauty and walked her way.

Sometime later Beauty came out of the sea and not finding her garment, not wanting to go naked took the garment of Ugliness, wore it and walked her way.

And to this day men and women mistake the one for the other.

Yet, for some there are who have beheld the face of Beauty and they know her notwithstanding her garments. And for some there will be who know the face of Ugliness and the cloth conceals him not from their eyes.

I have always found some statements that doesn’t make any sense like “She is good but is dark”.
“He is good but poor boy not so good looking”

Such statements talk about our confusion and conflicting stands rather than about the other person. When we say “she/he is good but not so good looking” we are actually mixing two issues which are not at all connected. What has looks got to do with the good character? But, we say “she is dark, poor girl” as if it were a sin to be dark, as if it were a negative quality. Colour of the skin doesn’t guarantee the character of a person. Krishna, Rama and all gods are considered dark. Westerners spend so much of money to get the tan which we are naturally endowed with. Dark skin has melanin more in quantity which is natural UV ray protector and insulates against all sun-burns and sun related, skin related diseases. This blessing is considered a curse. What a pity! Fair skinned flaunt their tan and the dark skinned spend millions for getting that unattainable fair skin. What a state of mind! What we have is never good. What we don’t have is the only good thing and worth having. Right? Think about it.

From today let us just say “she/he is good” and “she/he is dark skinned” as two separate statements but never in the same breathe. Likewise, when we talk of some one’s attitudes then it is only “she/he is good” – period – there will be no mention of the colour of their skin. Let us be very clear about what we say and how we think.

Why? What difference would it make if we say as we are used to saying? Well, it talks about confusion in thinking and the energy which is generated is that of confusion. Confusion energy is a negative energy which is going to reflect as confusing events /situations in life. And I am sure, no intelligent person wishes to have confusion reigning in their lives. So, if you want crystal clear way of thinking and living, then start at the point of beginning which is “thought”.

Got any more such statements which are self contradictory? Let’s discuss them if you wish.

Seriously Speaking!

Sing the song of Life!

Come to think of it, we started this journey to be happy and peaceful…..where did we pick up this seriousness enroute to finding happiness? Happiness is not a station to be reached. It is in the journey. The journey towards knowing the Self. And happiness is in just being…

When we get connected to ourselves, we develop sense of humour. We are amused at not so perfect things in the world. We are able to see the funnier and lighter side of situations. We stop being obsessed about perfection because we have outgrown our belief system which was set by our mind that said, “I can’t stand anything less than perfect. We keep striving towards perfection but along with it also are amused by the imperfections in characters around us and take it in our stride. Let me give a reason to amuse you today.

A letter from a Punjabi mother to her son.

My dear Jagjit,

I am in a well here and hoping you are also in a well there.
I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast. We don't live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we moved 20 miles.

I won't be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they wouldn’t have to change their address. Hopefully by next week we will be able to take our earlier address plate here, and that our address will remain same too.
This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right above the toilet I'm not sure it works too well. Last week I put in 3shirts, pulled the chain and haven't seen them since. The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The first time it rained or 3 days and second time for 4 days. The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pocket.
Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting thegrass at the cemetery. By the way I took Bahu to our club's poolside. The manager is Badmash. He told her that two piece swimming suit is not allowed in his club. We were confused as to which piece should we remove? Your sister had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a girl or a boy, so I don't know whether you are an Aunt or Uncle. Your uncle, Jetinder fell in the nearby well. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned... We cremated him and he burned for three days.
There isn't much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.
Love
Mom. P.S. Jagjit, I was going to send you some money but by the time I realized, I had already sealed off this letter
