Finally, for me ultimate love for the other comes across in these lines where a person is ready to become a ‘stepping stone’ for the other’s success!*

I am sure most you have such people in your life. Your teachers who stayed back in schools to make scientists, leaders and other success stories of their students!

What about parents and family?

Many have siblings sacrificing their lives, desires, dreams for the younger lot to go ahead in life!

Some are blessed by such friends and relatives!

Soldiers and the defense personnel sacrifice their personal life for the country!

Who are such people in your life?

Next comes the ‘ultimate level of self-confidence’ of the poet who says “I am ready to be ‘used’ by you and if you can move ahead – please do!

How much confidence should a person have to say that! My, my! It is just amazing!

Some of you may see it as ‘sheer arrogance’ but sir, which reflects your attitude not that of the poet.

And yes there is little bit of mocking, sarcasm directed towards some (maybe from his life too!) that even after me giving that push “if you can move ahead, move”. Here the poet says and is confident that inspite of being used and trampled by the other he doubts if the other has the capacity to go ahead (become successful in life). What confidence! What clarity of thought! What to say of sense of humour, confidence and large hearted nature!

The last part can be got ‘ONLY’ by those who have been ‘there’ in their lives (the place of the poet – where he lets the other use him to go ahead nay is ready to sacrifice himself for the success of the other). So if you don’t get this part let go……

So to sum it up it is humorous in a sarcastic kind of way, romantic, philosophical and expresses confidence, love and selflessness.

This is very clearly a very noble and yet loving gesture of highest kind – not to say highly romantic one. Romance is viewed only as long drives, candle light dinners, cards exchanged with cheesy messages* exchanged!

But poet here is expressing it the ‘highest’ and can I add “the best and right” way! He loves the other so much that he is ready to lie low for the other to use him as a ‘propeller’ to go ahead.

Where is the negativity here?

Again when he talks of other’s weakness he is not demeaning the other. He is just aware of the other’s limitations. And out of sheer love for the other he says don’t be limited by your flaws or limitations, I am ready to be your launching pad. I’ll give you that support. I’ll be your support. How romantic is that!

Finally,  ultimate love for the other comes across in these lines where a person is ready to become a ‘stepping stone’ for the other’s success!**

** (Of course, most people “USE” others to fulfill their wants, desires and call that love.

But the real human is one who ‘lets’ people /person he loves to use him to go ahead in life. These are few and far in between.

In the ladder of humanity, the first category is more in number and can be said to be of inferior category.

The second type is less in number and also superior in character and category.)

Safar - One of the gems from the great hindi poet/lyricist Nida Fazil.

Since the last two lines came across as negative for some of you (who were open to saying) and others too felt it negative but didn’t have courage /interest / time (or should I say sheer laziness) to write that down I am explaining that here today…..

In the entire poem the poet talks of how the journey of life is not an easy one! He is encouraging the person to ‘pick up and march ahead’ in life inspite of tough situation of life! But in the last couplet he seems to be ‘negative’ – so let’s see the poem once again!

The poem is written as a 'dialogue' that the poet has with someone he loves a lot. He is telling the 'realities of life to the other person about whose journey, well being and success the poet is concerned about. 

safar mein dhoop......badal sako tho chalo.....

In these stanzas he says this journey is no bed of roses. Hardships and tough situations are the hard facts of life and yet if you are “the brave and resilient one” you would walk this path and make it through! All through he talks about the requirement of our ‘inner strength’ that needs to be used/increased/required/developed to stand apart in the crowd!

When he comes to last but one stanza he realizes that not all are ‘born’ with inner strength. Not everyone can tap his inner power. Some need help, support to even stand let alone walk. And so the poet says “if you are one of those weak ones and you need some push to move forward then I am ready to be trampled by you (used) if that can get you ahead in the race of life!”

On Change!

Are we comfortable with the known 'devil' than an unknown 'angel'?

'Devil' here meaning the known people (with attitudes we are not comfortable with), jobs that we are complaining about and the situations that make us look like 'poor things!'

'Angel' here means 'unknown yet but good or right people' whom we are not open to receiving in life!
-Job that we dream of getting or desire to work for or say we deserve
-situations that we wish were part of our 'poor sad lives'!?


Are we afraid of change?
If so why?
Are we imagining most of it or is it for real?
What is our 'fear' of change based on?

think, think about it!

If you are angry, disturbed, frustrated then you haven’t read it right!

If you think the master hasn’t understood well you need to read it again!

If you feel pushed to the wall, then read it again and again and again!

Even after reading it multiple times you are where you started then, simply sit and start healing the ‘emotion’ that has surfaced in you. No need to understand it. No need to justify it. No need to validate it. No need to prove anyone how ‘some other person’ is responsible for it!

Just sit and heal!

If your response still is “yes, yes, I get it but……” then forget it……enjoy this pain and suffering and keep up with your regular healing. When you have healed enough to understand ‘this moment’ you’ll understand and do the needful!
