……contd……
There was pin-drop silence. This was too much for any of us
to digest. Yes, we were used to listening statements like “you write your
destiny”, “your present day action is writing your tomorrows’ karma” et all but
this was way too much. She was saying
that the entire world’s problem was also due to our karma and that each one of
us was responsible for that. Each one of us was processing it as per our
understanding.
“But Guruji, how can social pain or trouble and personal loss
– both be at same level? Are they not different? Many a times, I’ve found my
family members responsible for my loss and suffering. How can you say that I am
responsible for such loss too?” asked Geetha.
“Social problem and personal problem are different only in
following sense –
a.
The
magnitude of social problem is much larger and its solution usually involves
the whole of society at large and hence the magnitude makes it seem impossible
to solve, whereas personal loss involves only friends and family and hence
involves small group of people. So, technically this should be easier to
address and solve. But unfortunately it is not so. It is not so because of the
problem but because of the way we deal with it. personal problem is always made
‘personal’ and we are so ‘into’ it that we become part of the problem and hence
can’t get detached enough to have ‘an external vision’ of the issue. This
impairs our sense of clarity and judgement thereby making the issue ‘without a
solution problem’. We wallow in self-pity, anger, judgement, attachment,
heart-breaks and such feelings and emotions depending upon the issue. Once we
go on in these ‘emotional rides’ we forget that it is we who are responsible
for what we experience. We stop taking responsible of our actions and
decisions. We end up blaming near and dear ones for all that we are
experiencing and in that quagmire it is next to impossible to work on the
solution. We go deeper and deeper into depression, ill-health and suicidal
tendencies. At this stage we don’t seek steps to correct our mistakes. We are
only seeking ‘pity’ from others when we share our problems with them when a
suggestion or an advice is give we brush it aside saying “oh, but you don’t
understand” what we mean to say is “I want you to feel sorry for me and agree
and acknowledge that the people I am pointing at are bad and responsible for my
suffering. That’s all!” she answered.

Totally agree! This is one of my favorite quotes:
“The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.”

May 1st today, the beginning of Summer in India!
=======================================
Beginning of May, the Sun was at His scorching best. There was a political meeting opposite to Kacchabeswarar (Kacchabam - tortoise) temple. Atheists. The audience was around 200. The leader swore that he would demolish all temples, build industries in those places and provide jobs to every one.
Inside the Kanchi mutt, Periava called for the Paatti who used to serve butter milk in front of the mutt. He told her to make an 'Unda' big vessel full of butter milk. He listed the ingredients. Asafoetida, curry leaves, green chillies, ginger, mustard (sauteed in oil).
Sishyas and devotees were surprised at His knowledge and were also worried because it was an ordinary day and there were not too many people at the mutt. Meanwhile, the atheists meeting ended, the leader got into the car and drove away.
The crowd walked to the bus stop near the mutt. Then they saw the Paatti serving butter milk. In hardly 10 min the 'unda' was empty. Then, one of them said to another, 'Shall we go and have darshan of Sami?'.
Everyone felt the same, but hesitated because they thought others would curse them. At that moment, MahaSwami came out to go to Gangai Kondan Mandapam GKM to have darshan of Anjaneyar. The whole crowd prostrated before Him on the mid-day, May month, standing in the hot sand.
Periava stopped before entering GKM, blessed them and asked, 'Did all of
you get butter milk?'.
There could be limits to Gods' (Shiva, Vishnu...) mercy and not for Periava's compassion.
Shankara. Just read the last sentence again. Tears
Everyone, please stay cool during the hot month of May in India. Drink lot of butter milk and take care of others and animals and birds too.
