On Destiny

…contd…..

“What can we do? We are to suffer and pay the price of others’ greed. That’s all!” came a voice from behind.

“So, you say, you all are innocent of any input into this climatic change?” she asked mischievously.

“What did we do?” we asked.

“Exactly! Most of you did ‘nothing’ and thus became the contributor as silent partner in this phenomenon” she replied.

“We don’t get it” said I.

“Whenever you see someone acting out of greed, stupidity, carelessness, arrogance or for that matter even innocence the result of which you know or see it coming as ‘bad’ or harmful, what do you do? Nothing. You wait for the event to happen and then end up joining the ‘blame game’. Why? Because it is easy to do so and you can feel as if you are the ‘good guy’ by pointing finger at t he ‘external reason’ for any bad time that you experience”

“Sorry Guruji. Don’t know if it is the heat or otherwise but still it is not clear. Please explain with examples” pleaded Geetha. I thanked her silently and looking at others’ faces I knew almost every one was grateful to her for posing that request on their behalf.

“Fine. Let’s take this climate thing. Each one of us is responsible for what happens to Mother Earth as we all are residing here and using and abusing her day in and day out. For the last 20 years and more scientists have been telling us that this day would come as a result of deforestation, industrialization and so-called development. We all listened, talked about it and discussed about it at max but were we pro-active?

We could’ve been positively involved in this change. How you may ask?
1.
How many times I’ve told you the importance of planting trees, plants and nurturing them? How many actually took it seriously and did something about it? At the most you took couple of potted plants, that’s all!

What do I say? Just see this video

and she played a video for us to watch. When we were done watching it she asked “This kid is doing what you and I could’ve done as well. But did we? If only few more had taken this initiative, this day could’ve been pushed forward. The question is are you atleast going to do anything about it now or not?
