On destiny
Me, My Guru
10 o’clock. Yes, it was just 10 o’ clock and yet the heat was
unbearable. We all were sweating profusely. The only sound heard was ‘oohs’ and
‘shshsh’ that everyone was making because of temperature and sweating. And to
add to our woes was this wonderful power cut. All our attention was centered on
the discomfort that we were experiencing and so didn’t notice ‘her’ come and
sit in her place. She closed her eyes and went into meditation the moment she
sat down. God! How could she? We wondered if she was not sharing the same space
as us.
She opened her eyes after say 1/2an hour or so. We were
fanning ourselves with papers, kerchiefs and what ever we laid our hands on
with. She was calm. She was her usual self!
“So, shall we start?” she asked innocently.
“How can you start now? Let’s wait for power” suggested
someone.
“Why, what’s the problem?” she asked as if it wasn’t obvious.
“Oh, this power cut and to add to our woes this high temp”
“It’s all because of business houses. They out of greed have
felled our forests and we today are paying price for their greed”
“Well said but don’t forget the politicians. They are the
main culprits always filling their coffers”
“True. True. These European countries with their emissions
have created hold in ozone layer and see the effect of their industrialization
and growth”
Each one was giving vent to his anger and expressing it in
his way. They blamed the entire parties involved one after the other. The voices
raised and blended into one another. When everyone’s accusations, complaints,
pent-up anger stopped ‘she’ simply asked “and what are you doing about it?”
