On Gratitude

...contd.....

Why should you thank? Because, the common complaint I receive is “I do so much to XYZ and he/she doesn’t show gratitude/appreciation/praise me” that includes you too!  What you want or what is your need is also the need of the other in your life! Since, you want appreciation and validation of your “good job”, you should give it to others.

Remember the “Law of Nature” – “As you sow, so you reap”, “You receive what you give”.  If you want people to validate your effort, if you want people to say that you are important in their life, is it not logical that you do the same for others?

So, please start now, start immediately! Go- hug, praise, write, call or say it aloud – but let it be known to the other that you appreciate their part in your life!  Tell them how important they are to you.  Don’t be a kanjoos (miser) in this! But, remember, let it not be flowery or fake.  The “thank-you” should be genuine – only then it’ll reach the other person.

What’s the benefit of doing this? Well, all our lives we are concentrating on two things mostly – one is how much we have helped/benefitted/given to others and second how they have been ungrateful for the same.  Now, when we do this exercise at least once a week/day/month, we realize how much others have done for us.  We know how much we’ve received.  Then, we’ll count our blessings!  We’ll celebrate what we have.  And that is the basis of happiness in our life.  Yes! Looking at our abundance, we’ll celebrate life and be grateful for it!  We are not happy because we don’t have something or we lack someone, we are crying/cribbing/complaining because we “think” – I repeat we think (that means we think so when in actuality we are not) we don’t have anything!
