Me, my Guru – Karna gives now!

Me, my Guru – Karna gives now!

Karna’s wife asked him “You gave him with your left hand being fully aware that it is wrong to do so. You’ll incur negative karma for the same. Instead, you could’ve asked him to come again later”.

To which Karna replied with a smile “What if my reasoning mind thinks of not giving or giving less? I am ok with bearing the consequences of giving with the left hand, but I am not letting my mind tempt me into a ‘logical way of calculating in giving”.

After a couple of days, Yudhistra sent for the Brahmin. Brahmin came and Yudhistra asked him the reason for not coming again for daana. To which Brahmin replied that he has already received it from Karna. Yudhistra was surprised. He asked Brahmin if Karna was not eating then. Brahmin narrated the entire story, thanked Yudhistra for having sent for him and blessed Yudhistra for remembering his requirements. He took leave of Yudhistra and left.

Bheema taunted Karna for giving with the left hand. To which Yudhistra praised Karna and told Bheema that he was indeed the greatest of data (giver)  as he gave without thinking and processing the merits of the receiver. Only he who gives thus heals himself through giving. All others actually become bound by giving through karma?”

Points to ponder:

I have highlighted the words and sentences that mean a lot. Go through them again and again and try to understand them - in their various layers. Also, see how and where they can be implied and applied in your life.....

Questions answered:

  • What is the best way to give so that our karmas are healed?
  • Can giving heal us of our karmas especially those which we are afraid of facing and dealing with?
  • Is there a right and wrong way of giving?
  • When one is giving, what is the reason that is driving him to give - himself or the other? The answer decides the results - not the act by itself!!!

Points to be taken:
  • There always will be people finding fault even if 'good' is done' That reflects who they are! That should not stop you from doing 'right' or 'good'!
  • It takes 'character' in a person to see the good in the other. It also takes a lot to be in a person to appreciate and be with the person who means 'good' for you. Person weak in character leave the 'good' and 'right' for what is pleasing to their 'ego' and 'comfort'.
  • People are more 'act-oriented' than the 'intention oriented' while giving. The day shift happens, the giver will know what giving is, love is, appreciation, kindness, peace and contentment is....
