Me, my Guru – on
Valuing and gratitude
On one such day Master
was talking about being grateful. While giving these lectures he would quote
from scriptures and also would tell stories to make them interesting and easy
to understand. At the end of the session that day he said ‘so you see, we need
to be grateful for what we receive. You may say ‘but we do say ‘thanks’ is that
not enough?’ then answered any question. After you do your job, if your
employer gives no salary or reward and simply says ‘thanks’ would you accept?
You are doing the same job – year after year and yet you want raise. You are
not happy even if it is 20% hike thought the amount of work is same. You feel
you deserve 40% hike. But, when you need to be grateful, you conveniently say
‘thanks’ and get away with it.
Imagine every person
simply saying ‘thanks’ and not doing or giving anything in exchange to what you
do or give them, how would you feel? Is your present anger not based on just
this? Think about it!” having said this Master closed his eyes for some time.
After a while he opened
his eyes and looked at everyone to see if they have processed all that he had
said. Their confused, confused angry faces told him they haven’t accepted what
he said! It was then a small village shopkeeper bowed down to the Master and
asked “So you say we should give something in return when our wishes come
true!”
Master smiled and
replied ‘no, not for the wishes that are to be fulfilled. You should give for
all that you’ve received till date’.
There was restless
murmur among students too now. Nirmaldas, the villager sat contemplating on the
answer that he just got. Within few minutes, he bowed down to the Master,
sought his permission to leave and left.
After sometime that
day’s session ended.

Points to ponder :
- Whenever there is double standards in our behaviour, that becomes cause of pain and suffering in our life.
- The way we assess what we give to our family, company, nation, friends and Universe is totally different from the way we assess what we receive from them.
- Look within. Meditate. Have courage to face the truth about yourself.
Wonderment Tip : Just for couple of days more there is going to be beautiful night sky. We can see clearly 5 major planets they being very near Earth. Don't miss the chance of seeing them. There is also one asteroid you can watch in night sky.
