Next comes, the stage of Saints. These people are
‘yogis’ almost nearing to ‘Brahmagyan’. They are best left to themselves. They
are not much interested in being Gurus, because they know by being one, their
energies get dissipated and they don’t want that to happen. They are immersed
in self-sadhan and live with one pointed goal of ‘self-realization’ and hence
don’t wish to be distracted by the presence of ‘shishyas’ or students.
Saint Thiruvalluvar comes under this category. By following
the teachings of these saints, we can outgrow our limitations very easily.
All saints are not Guru but all Gurus have the
potential of becoming a ‘saint’.
Only by serving the Gurus of levels explained above
with sincerity and reverence and having amassed ‘punya’ in the form of their
blessings does a student qualify to meet a ‘sadguru’ like Sai Baba, Ramana
Maharshi, Paramahamsa, Adishankaracharya or Mahavatar Baba. Understand this
qualification doesn’t come by simple acts done few times. It’s just not the act
of ‘seva’ that’s important but also the thought behind it.
The ‘bhava’ of
dedication, affection, humility, servitude, gratitude, joy while performing
such act is more than important to see the desired effects. And this has to be
done for so many janmas at every level to actually be meeting the Guru who is
an ‘Enlightened Master’ and who is called ‘Guru’ as per the term.
Even people who have seen Paramahamsa, Jesus
Christ, Ramana Maharshi or Adi Shankaracharya couldn’t benefit from their
presence and knowledge. On the contrary they called them names and many
maligned them, wronged them, abused them and even pelted stones at them at
times. So seeing one or meeting one is no good. What’s the fun of being ‘disciple’
of Jesus Christ and me ending up being the ‘Judas’.
So instead of wanting to meet a Guru, pray that you
recognize one when you see him or you treat him right when you meet him. Instead
of searching for Guru and filtering people and being disillusioned, start
working on the area which is near you and in your control – yourself. Yes, your
attitude, mind, intellect, intent and sadhan. Whatever technique you learn, do
it sincerely so many times that you become one with that technique. Then, you
would have automatically become eligible from within to receive a Guru worthy of
your karma and nature and he’ll come find you. He’ll enter your life silently
like a cool breeze that calms you and cools you. You too being ready will
benefit from his presence and then your progress happens so fast that even you
wouldn’t know when it happened.

Remember, the selected few may never find a Guru in
this journey but they themselves become beacon of light for thousands for
thousands of years like Bhagavan Gautam Buddha. He became enlightened on his
own. That path is so very difficult and only a handful tread that path. So relax,
it doesn’t apply to you!
I hope all your queries regarding this are
answered. Do you have any more doubts? Now tell me, do you really think “happy
guru poornima” is a way to greet your Guru?
I leave it to you to decide.
