on goodness!

On goodness!

So, you have had quite a good reading all these years, now let's see how you perceive and take few things and issues in your life....

What is the meaning of getting 'good name'?

and What is it about being a good person?

Is there a difference between both? If no, move on. If yes, explain with atleast one example.

How important it is to be a good person and how much more important to get a good name?

Which comes with you after you are gone?

What remains with you and affects you of the both and how?

If being a good person is more important and sensible than getting a good name, then why do people go to great heights to get a good name?

And if getting a good name is more important than being a good person, then what is the purpose of being a good person?

How far would you go to get a good name?

Would you force/hurt/make it difficult for say person A so that you can please person B from whom you are to get a good name? If yes, what does this tell about you and your principles and values in life?

When people around you or the ones you know you say that you are a"good" person, as per their definition of good.

One who has not malice towards anyone is a good person. One who is peaceful and blissful is a good person.

There is definitely a difference. When people call you "good", it is limited by their definition of "good". If someone believes wishing "good morning" in the morning makes you a good person, you might end up wishing everyone good morning like a parrot not feeling it at all or may be feeling worse things.

It's important to a good person, since if you're not and just pretending you are only fooling yourself. It might be important to get a good name for 2 reasons - that it might make life easier for you and it might inspire others to do the right thing. For example, a celebrity might give interviews about his charity initiatives which might not actually be true. However, he might have inspired thousands to do some good in their lives.

Which comes with you after you are gone?
Only your actual deeds - Karma and not the ones perceived by others

What remains with you and affects you of the both and how?

Because getting a good name might earn you a lot financially and get you a lot of Goodwill. It simply makes life easy. But life might still lack meaning.

And if getting a good name is more important than being a good person, then what is the purpose of being a good person?

I personally don't do much to get a good name. But I'm questioning myself if this is the right way.

Would you force/hurt/make it difficult for say person A so that you can please person B from whom you are to get a good name? If yes, what does this tell about you and your principles and values in life?
We often do this when we feel we can get some benefit - financial, emotional or otherwise by being in the good books of person B. This just says that our values are not well formed and we adjust them to our convenience
