Justifying, defending and accruing karma

Justifying, defending and accruing karma

When we justify our thoughts, acts, we own them. When we defend our thoughts, likes and dislikes or people, we own them. Till they are owned by us, how can we be ‘free of their effect’ in our lives and on us? That is ‘binding of karma’. So disown!

Don’t defend. Love people in your life but don’t market them as ‘good people’. Have likes but don’t market them as ‘right’. You become bound by the actions that you take because of that like!

Do these statements seem familiar?

·  When one says ‘My son sings well’ – the other says “mine dances too’

·       When one says ‘your brother drinks right?’ – the other says ‘but you why he drinks or but he is so intelligent’

When someone is talking about their people why do we immediately support our people? If my brother drinks, why do I market him as good by telling something different like ‘he earns a lot or he is intelligent or that he is divorced so he is actually broken etc’?

Questions addressed :

  • Why do we justify the actions and intentions of our near and dear ones?
  • How does attachment to someone blinds us to promote their image where it is not even needed?
  • How attachment and justification of others acts binds us to our karma...

Points to be understood :

  • Love by all means. Don't see others worthiness in loving. But do we need to build their image at every step? Do we need to market our near ones as 'good and perfect' ones?
  • Love is a feeling. No need to curtail or ration it with near ones.
  • But 'justifying them or always defending their actions' reflects how we are attached to them. Their in lies our fault and cause of our pain.
  • Why are we so particular that others 'validate' our dear ones and 'good and worthy' person? Is it so important? Why is it so important? Please sit in meditation and find out. Develop clarity. You'll become free from pain in relationships.
  • Freedom is not 'from' relationships. We don't leave behind our relationships. We are learning to leave traits and actions that are causing us pain and suffering in our relationship.

Watched a part of favourite film brings back nostalgia. Wow moment!
Know the dialogue and even the expression of the actor. Still going through it, seeing it once again - wow!

Ravan - know him in toto!

….contd….

With so much of power, strength, knowledge and opportunity too, he did not force himself on Sita after abducting her. He kept pleading her, threatening her, cajoling her, enticing her and wooing her to marry him but he did not force himself on her. With such power and such strong passionate desire for a woman who was his captive, he had self-restraint beyond the comprehension of ordinary mortals. There in lies his greatness. Inspite of his devilish intentions and nature he had his great qualities too! Some  state that it was because of a curse that he would be reduced to ashes if he touches a woman against her will while others give credit to Sita’s purity. All said and done, we can not forget that he was an asura king and he had magical powers which he could’ve easily used to fulfill his desire. Don’t underestimate his capabilities. Yet he choose to win her over was something commendable.

Every man can learn from him with regards to this quality. Men who are of no good by way of looks, achievements, abilities, knowledge, power or having just a little of it molest woman at will and justify that the woman provoked them to by her looks, dress, life-style, character etc. a truly strong man doesn’t use his strength on woman – whether at home or outside. Infact, he is no man who does it. He is devil incarnate only in the garb of a human. His lack of good brought-up, circumstancs, frustrations, being drunk – nothing can justify his actions. When the Lord of three worlds – Ravana did not use his power, position and opportunity to molest a woman who was his captive – no one can find or give an excuse of circumstances to justify his actions. So real asuras are these men who use their strength on women and they cannot be pardoned for their sin – be them a juvenile or old person. They have to be punished severely whatever be their office and shame on people who support these people in the guise of their profession or in the name of ‘human rights’. These people are more sick and dangerous than the actual culprits. Those who justify the acts of rapists and finds fault with the girl who’s been raped are bigger culprits and they have to be ‘counseled’ and treated for ‘mental problem’.

Indrajit flying over golden lanka

Ravana was just and able ruler. His subjects just loved him and his rule was so efficient that Hanuman found precious jems and gold everywhere in Lanka. Just the description of Lanka and the palace of Ravana is so poetically grand done by Sri Valmiki in his Ramayan that it mesmerizes the reader and transports him into a world of beauty and grandeur. Hanuman was surprised at the richness of Lanka and he even mentions that the whole city was artistic beyond belief. There was no poor person in the kingdom and people knew no sorrow. They were very happy and that’s why two rakshasas after his demise decide to avenge his death and in the guise of washerman and woman bad mouth about Sita.

He was brother par excellence and that’s why they loved him so much and were ready to give up their life him. His son, Meghdooth, himself a great achiever and very powerful hero -worshipped him. That proves that he was a very good father to his children.

On knowing self -Me, My Guru

On knowing self -Me, My Guru

Contd.....

A man filled with lust sees object of his desire everywhere and a Buddha sees Buddha in everyone!

And hence Ravana saw ‘object of desire’ in Mother Sita. The fault was not in Sita ma. It was in his eyes and character. Like-wise, Buddha saw ‘a divine soul’ in a highway dacoit – Angulimaan who went on to become one of his best and Enlightened disciples. A sadhak can get ‘message from his Guru/divine’ even from a film. I experienced it. We just had to be tuned to our Guru’s vibrations and they have their own way to reach and teach us. This I call as ‘play way of method’ of her teaching.

In similar situations, I had pitied her so many times for patiently teaching us and coaxing us to understand ‘the teachings’. Not this time! I didn’t pity her. Neither was I angry with self. I felt gratitude for all the love that our Guru exhibited through her teachings. Yes love found its expression through minute excuses. And what did I give in return - A bland and a routine ‘thankyou maam’ which sounded more mechanical than genuine now even to my ears. I had to live her words. I had to ‘let go’ off my causes of pain by simply applying her time tested techniques. I by living a life of abundance gave her one of the best gifts.

She said ‘don’t argue, defend or justify’. Now I saw it. We didn’t
let go because we had our reasons to hold on to our hurts. Yes, the other did hurt and insult us. They don’t understand us. We justify our emotions of pain, hurt by their actions. It wasnt’ as if ‘she didn’t understand’. She did and hence gave this simple technique “don’t justify or defend’. If I didn’t justify my emotions then the talk of him (the one who hurt) didn’t arise and then how could I go on in this ‘pain trip?”. She wanted just that. She wanted us to get down that train that took us to ‘hell of pain and suffering’. And all I need to do was ‘stop defending and justifying’.

Once this continuous chatter of others being wrong and us being right stops we are in a space of silence that reflects our Nature to us! That’s what was our question “how do I know and understand self?” she had bundled all our issues under one head and gave a simple panacea of tip “Stop defending and justifying” and thereby ‘letting go’ and automatically entering the ‘Me Zone’.

God – it was so obvious and yet I had wasted all these years. Even if I had simply followed her ‘do’s and don’ts’ it could’ve brought me here long back!

Well. Better late than never!

Me, My Guru - on On being part of the Society and Social responsibilities!

Contd.....

Me, My Guru - on On being part of the Society and Social responsibilities!

“But what about corrupt politicians? It wouldn’t pain that much if my tax money didn’t fill their pockets” someone echoed my sentiments in this issue.

“Gandhiji chose Nation over his childrens’ future and we gained our freedom. Now to come to think of it, was it worth it I wonder at times! Well, Baba Amte followed Gandhiji’s principles, remained a bachelor and jumped into Satyagraha and is fighting movement till date against corruption and other evils through fasting.

Mother Theresa left her country, struggled in the slums of Calcutta to serve lepers who were not even cared for by their own family.

Ratan Tata didnot accept ‘order of 1lakh Nano cars’ from Pakistan saying he didn’t approve of giving or funding terrorists who bombed India either directly or indirectly. A businessman who wasn’t looking for his profit but looked beyond it! Man patriotic enough not to think only like a business man but as a citizen of this country first! Yes, no one would’ve questioned him even if he had accepted that order. But he stood his ground and looked beyond his personal gain.

Azim Premji let his venture take longer to start than bribe the officials and didn’t compromise with his principles even when it could earn crores of profit to his company. He had an excuse; he didn’t give in to that.

If we had to follow, we also have these people and such types in thousands to follow. We read about them, praise them and put it aside. But when it comes to practice we don’t recollect these people with integrity, work ethics, character and morals. We look at people whom we call as ‘corrupt’ to follow. We use them to get away with our acts, thoughts and justify our stand. Just think about it! When it comes to choose a path whom do we use as examples reflect our morality, principles and character? No act of others can justify our action – remember that always!

How a person behaves reflects his character and how we respond reflects ours! The other person’s actions can’t justify who we are!

Worry!

Worry!

When we have nothing else to do, we worry!

Whenever things get disturbed, we worry?

Whenever there is change, we worry?

Whenever our plans go don’t go as per our desire we worry?

Whenever we are held responsible, we worry?

Whenever and till our desire is not met, we worry?

Look at every instance carefully. Meditate on it. Just don’t read it and move on. Don’t try to understand it from words. Sit and meditate.

Look at your worry. Look deeply into worry. See its nature. Know its cause. Question its existence.

Don’t justify your worry based on a person or an event. Don’t condition something to happen. Don’t expect anything. Just look at worry!

When you sit to meditate on worry the mind will say “but I love that person and so I have to worry etc etc..” OR it will throw some ‘but…if..’ at you. Just brush it aside. Don’t go with buts and ifs. Just look at the worry.

You will be surprised at the redundancy of its existence when you get to know it. And just like that you are free of that worry!

Try it!

Questions answered :

  • How to stop worrying?
  • How to free ourselves from worrying?
  • When you say "but as a parent I am to worry for my child..." are you saying "I will worry. I enjoy it and don't give me techniques to stop worrying"? Whenever we justify our emotions what is that we are saying and meaning? If we are happy holding on to that emotion then why are we complaining that we are not happy and others are? Think about it!
  • What is worry exactly and how does it function?

Indian Mythology - Shiva Parvathi - Me, My Guru

Contd.....

Small act of others, we blew up to appreciate and still we belittled everything our family member did for us! We still suffered our family more so because of our nature than because of what they did. We didn’t know to appreciate their characters which we took for granted and hence could still justify our hatred and dislike and anger for them. When would we experience love in our family lives? Never with these qualities in us! No, we hadn’t begun our healing yet. We realized all this during our break. I don’t know if the person who sought answers to his question benefitted or not, but we all benefitted in our own way because of this lady’s explanation. It made us check our attitudes, our anger and allegations, our relationships and also our area of sadhan. Just discussing, reading good forwarded stories, SMSes or saying ‘thankyou’ quotes gave us an assumption that we were ‘sadhaks’ and were in sadhan regularly. Now we knew it was not so. We weren’t giving in as much to sadhan as we were expecting it to show results to us. We had our bag full of excuses ever ready to justify our action or rather inaction – no time, healthy, busy, office far, small child, relatives at home and what not!

The trouble with us was we all took ‘time’ for granted! We assumed he had lots of time!

She came to  continue the session and no sooner had she sat that someone asked “Guruji, what is this about Him sculpting us? What is He sculpting us from and what is each one of us to become? How do we know that the image ‘sculpted’ or one that comes out is the right one? May be I was meant to be princess and he sculpted me to be an actor. How would I know if what I have become is right for me?”

“Oh!” she said and ended laughing. Her chuckle was very melodious to (most of us) our ears! It felt like a stream flowing. Yes, it was musical and we looked forward to hearing her chuckle so. She continued too soon for us “Well – He is not sculpting your professions or achievements. That is not His domain or concern.  What I achieve is totally upto my desire, karma(destiny) and hardwork. He doesn’t meddle with that part of our lives. Then what does He sculpt? The Real Me – The Divine Atman of me from the covering called ‘maya’ (The illusion).

The artist takes a stone and chisels a beautiful sculpture out of it. When asked he said “I didn’t create that sculpture. It already was there in that stone. I just removed or chiselled the unnecessary parts of that stone to ‘bring out’ the beautiful sculpture from it. Mind you, he brings out, he doesn’t make it. Like-wise our sculptor – God knows as ‘Atman’ or consciousness, each one of us is pure, Divine, Truth, consciousness and blissful. It’s just that ‘our self’ is hidden by the ‘stone covering’ of Maya or illusion which is working through Ego. He just works on (our qualities) ego and brings out our ‘Real Self’ or ‘Divine Self’ to the forefront. That is same; I mean the end result is the same for all – so He can’t go wrong in sculpting. Everyone had to express our ‘Divine Self’ more and more and it by itself proves that His sculpting is going on. When our ‘animalistic’ nature is still stuck with us, inspite of our worldly riches and achievements, know that His sculpting hasn’t started yet. And then it is not His fault. It just means I am choosing to be an animal and express and develop my lower nature and so hasn’t chosen Him to sculpt me. That’s all!  Now did you get it?” she asked a little teasing in a way. Today she was her mischievous self – which was bit rare but when it was she had that child like twinkle in her eyes. But people who didn’t know enough wouldn’t know that she was actually teasing as a way of fun. They would still be afraid of her – as ever!

On receiving Grace

Contd....

On receiving Grace

No one is left out of receiving consequences of karma.

So as you are happy when the wrong doer receiver punishment, then also know and accept, you’ll also receive consequences of your karma.

Then, what about Grace?

What about healing?

What’s the use of healing?

Healing doesn’t qualify a person to live a life of ‘adharma’ and get away with it.

Healing has stages to it.

First, you accept the way you’ve lived, acted, said, thought had been wrong and not as per dharma.

Second, which ever area you have been wrong, you’ll stop living the ‘wrong way’ from now.

It is like this – you know by drinking alcohol, aerated drinks* our system gets spoiled and yet you gulp down couple of bottles daily and are surprised that your organs has deteriorated over the years. And you are angry that Reiki didn’t help you?!

It’s like saying I’ll do Reiki and drive a bike at 200 kmph without helmet or brakes especially on a mountain range.

And you are proud of your logic and mind that comes with such arguments and statements to support your behaviour, desire and acts?

*(The great intelligent mind argues: But I don’t even drink tea or coffee maam…..really? That’s how you are processing this example? And you are falling on the logic provided by this mind to justify how you feel or why you feel? )

# on receiving grace, karma, consequences of karma, give and take, grace,

PS : If you have any other post from this blog related to this topic, give the link to it for all to benefit.

Points to be considered :
  • Are you using your intelligence and mind to justify your desires and actions?
  • Are you using your intelligence and mind to find faults in others and their behaviour?
  • If answer to one or both of the above questions is yes, then know that 'mind' of yours to be your 'best enemy'.
  • You don't need any other curse from outside to traumatise you.
  • Your mind is the cause of your suffering and pain.
  • Your mind is the creator of your 'cursed destiny'.
  • Your mind is the reason why you don't receive 'Grace' from any of these - God/Universe/reiki/guru
  • Address your mind and then....
  • Stop looking for the fulfillment of your desire. Stop justifying your desire. Start working on your mind! Be smart enough to use your desire, its fulfillment, your pain to know where the 'source' of your problem lies!

On being grateful :
