Guru with betrayal of his students

Why did Judas betray Jesus? Out of greed of course! Greed for money, material possessions, fame and success blinds the man or woman so much that they are ready to trade their “Master” in exchange for these goodies. People would say “Shame on them” but I say “Pity them”. They have such little understanding and such mean and lowly priorities that they traded their “Master” for few coins. Jesus told Judas “It would be better for him if he had not been born“. And that applies to every student who betrays his Master – who is jealous of Master. Treats him as a rival and is ever planning and dreaming of making him a “no-body” or forcing him to get out of public eye just to enjoy that himself. Yes, shame on him/her.

What are the repercussions of such acts? Losing a Master, (Judas lost Jesus for ever!) but many fools don’t even realize than even after losing their Master what they have lost. Because, one who has valued the Master during his presence only will shudder at the thought “if I didn’t have him in my life – then?” but, a fool who’s lost him never knew his worth when he had him and that’s why sinned against his Master and worked very hard to drive him away from his life. Just to have a Master who loves his student unconditionally is a rarity. Apostle Peter was a fisherman when Jesus met him and told him “Peter drop these nets and follow me. I’ll make you fishers of men if you follow me…” that’s the touch of a true Master. From nobody a person goes on to do a noble job of being a ‘fishers of men’ and to let go off that Master, to drive away such Master – even Master can’t save such disciples!

Coming to Peter - He lied thrice saying he didn’t know Jesus. This was out of fear. Jesus was taken by the soldiers and was to be crucified. He was not popular when Peter was questioned “Are you not one of the disciples of Jesus?”. Peter was frightened. He thought if I say “I know Jesus, even I would meet the same fate as his”. So to protect himself from being arrested, crucified and from infamy he disowned Jesus publicly. Where does he stand in relation to Judas? Peter was worst than Judas. He knew what Jesus had done for him, loved him but still to safeguard himself let go off Jesus.

A disciple who cannot publicly declare his Master’s name is in the same shoes of Peter. It’s the same fear that’s working through him which had gripped Peter then. Between your respect for your Master and fear to accept him as your Guide publicly, if your fear wins – know you’ve lost your place as a disciple.

You’ve lost as a person. It reflects your character as one who cannot be depended on in bad times.

Are you ready to live with this fact? If yes, forget it. If no, then work on your fear.

Bad Disciples and Guru

Jesus got up and served his 13 disciples saying “Let me serve you bread and wine today for today is the Last Supper that I share with you in this world”. Next he “washes their feet” giving them a “New command” – “Love one another as I loved you”.

His disciples started crying hearing his words and Jesus predicted “one of you will betray me today”. His favourite student Peter replied “I can never do that “ and to that Jesus replied “You’ll disown me thrice before rooster roosts tomorrow morning”. Peter started crying and saying “It can never happen so!”

But, it was to happen so as predicted by Jesus and Judas – his Apostle betrayed him for just 30 silver coins. And Peter did lie not knowing Jesus when asked by people thrice and he remembered the prediction made by Jesus when the rooster roosted the morning next. He cried bitterly for the sin committed by him.

This anecdote moved me deeply when I heard it first time and so it does even today. I cried for Jesus then as much as I do today. Why? To love one’s disciples and to make them Apostles when they were nobody before meeting Jesus and then to be betrayed this way shows the heights of ingratitude these disciples had for Him.

Not only that, it also shows how even if loved unconditionally the returns can be so painful. What more can be given by a master to a student. He made them Apostles. He gave them knowledge – knowledge that could give them eternal peace and immortality. He gave them position most covetous in the history of mankind. They could ever be remembered by all for eons to come. And yet, what he received was betrayal and denial.

Why do you think this happened in the first place? First let’s look at the case of Judas. He betrayed his master for mere silver coins. Agreed next day he realized his sin and threw the money in the temple and told the soldiers that he had betrayed an innocent man and out of guilt hung himself. But, does that condone him of his sins? No certainly not. And hence, Judas is the name given to any traitor.

Christianity : This is little older and is 2000 years old and in actuality isn’t a religion on its own just as Islam. Jesus himself was a Jew just as Buddha and Mahaveera were Hindu Kshatriya Princes. Jesus revolted against rituals followed in the churches by Jewish Rabbi and questioned them on the purity of their intent. He said mere physicality wasn’t enough of a prayer but one needed to surrender one’s will completely to God to drink of His Grace and become His vehicle and thereby inherit the kingdom of God.

Can’t you see the similarity here again of all these principles with ‘Bhakthi Philosophy’ of Hinduism? It is!  That is because Jesus vanished from Jerusalem at around his 14^th year and returned only after his 30^th year of age. The missing period of his life is never discussed or sought after by ‘blindly believing Christians’. It is found in Tibetan Monastery of India in Himalayas (in the manuscript 2000yrs old) that Jesus did come here and studied Vedic philosophy, various meditation techniques, practiced them and left when he became ‘Enlightened’. That’s why he could say ‘forgive them for they know not what they do’ of his oppressors who were nailing him to death on the cross. No where he talks about conversion – but only of believing in the God and the path where in one developed qualities of compassion, mercy, forgiveness, treating all as self (treat thy neighbour as you would want to be treated) as such of qualities.

Treating all as self is the ‘concept of non-duality’ of Hinduism. So, he never taught killing. Yet all the genocide of Jews happened in the name of Jesus. He preached right. The followers were at fault. They couldn’t love enough. They killed ‘the embodiment of love on cross’ and once done with him, they had to divert the hatred within themselves somewhere and so they used it in the name of their religion to slaughter all whom they thought were inferior to them.

But if you look into mystics in this religion, say St.Francis of Assisi or St.Theresa – their spiritual ecstasy, experiences, way of life and sayings correlate with mystics of any other religion.

Come Christmas all one can think about is cakes, carols and Christmas tree. But, is that all it is about?

All these acts of festivities are the body of the Christmas. But what about the spirit of the festival?

And did you know that Christ was not born in December? December 25^th was celebrated to celebrate the winter solstice and to celebrate the birth of the Sun God. Later when Roman empire got baptized it changed this day when days would start getting longer as the “birth day of Jesus”. So, you see, a tradition doesn’t necessarily reveal or reflect the “Truth” after all! And to think, we fight all wars in the name of religion and traditions? Think about that!

To get to know the spirit of any religion or tradition we need to look into the person who started it. Know his spirit and find out what are the characters that shaped his essence. Jesus was driven by character traits of – forgiveness, being sensitive to the poor and needy, belief in the Almighty and working as an instrument to fulfill the command/desire of the Divine. He didn’t have any personal agenda to cater to. He forgave even the people who nailed him to death. His heart bled for the suffering and he would do anything to alleviate them of their suffering.

Now, when we eat the cake, are we also looking at these qualities that define Jesus? Are we invoking the Christ within us? Only if we do, is the real celebration of Christmas. It doesn’t matter which religion you follow. It doesn’t even matter with which name you refer to your God. But, Rigveda says “Aano bhadro krtavo yantu viswatah” meaning “Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions” – This is a Vedic Mantra from Rigveda 1:89. 1. So let’s live our Seer’s desire to receive good from all directions.

And is not forgiveness, working for the downtrodden, and being instrument of the Lord basis of our Sanatan Dharma?

May be we can’t imbibe all these qualities in toto in our lives, but we can have them as our road map. We can work towards them, one step at a time. And as Reiki Sadhak’s we have our techniques to develop these qualities. So this Christmas, let’s do them.

Let’s do charity – at least to one person (not to your maid or driver). Let’s do it to someone unknown to us – even just one packet of food (even fruits will do if you can’t cook). If you have a kid at home, let it be done through their hands. Let’s teach them young the concept of sharing with the needy.

You can also give your old clothes to the street children.

Now with the winter that is killing many, donate at least old blanket to one person.

All the suggested options are doable by one and all. I am not asking you to do it in lakhs. So everyone can do this! If you are on facebook/social media site, post your pic donating and start a “Share to care challenge” or "Christmas spirit challenge" . Ask others to do the same and ask them to post their pics too….this way each one doing charity even to one person we can make a huge difference in real time.

Meditate on “surrendering to Reiki/God” one minute a day.

Kuch alag karthe hai, is saal….let’s do something different this year – let’s bring home Christ this year!!!

Time to rest!

When is it time to rest?

When your body, mind and spirit seem to give up, know it's time to rest. 

If you go on even when the entire system says "I can't" you may never reach where you are struggling to go. STOP is the sign you must read and follow. 

It's OK to rest for in rest you calm your nerves and a calmer mind sees the solution that is right in front of us.

A person desperate for things to go his way will only lose the people he has in life now. He also messes up the energies in such a way that he creates more hurdles in the path of his desire-fulfillment. 

Doing nothing is so far away from Being Still. Being still is being restful. Know the difference! And act accordingly to get the right results. 

Now, what does resting mean if not lazing around through the day? 

Because Swami Rama says "Intense work is rest".

Resting is not about physically lazing around or hopping on to some exotic place in the name of a break or vacation. No, it is far from it. 

Rest is for the mind. Rest for the emotions. Rest is stilling our inner chatter. And that rest when given, the person gets connected to the 'soul consciousness' and that gives energy worth 'hundreds of elephants'. Then that person can accomplish many things of this World effortlessly and in no time. 

Just look at Lord Buddha, Adi Shankaracharya, Jesus and many such stalwarts. They disappeared from the World for quite some time. 

Lord Buddha went away to meditate for 6 long years to become enlightened. 

Jesus left home around 13-14 years and came back only when he was around 30 years of age.

Everyone goes within and takes so many years to get connected to the soul. Then all the work they did was monumental. Jesus Christ preached for just 3 years and look all around you - that is the impact of work well done! People after 2000 years of his leaving his mortal body are also ready to forgo everything in his name!

Adi Shankaracharya left his body at 33 years of age. And yet, no one could touch anywhere near his body of work to date. 

We can't go to some mountain or forest and lose our 10-20 years of life. But, we all can take 10-15 days of rest - that is, being in complete sadhan for a said period and gain from it - periodically!

So take time to go into intense sadhan from time to time to rejuvenate yourself. Do it to become fresh from within to have a better and fresh perspective. Do this to gain energy to do much work effortlessly!

• Take a break is not about taking a vacation, it is taking break from running around things and how people and things should happen in your life.
• Take a break of running around this World. Take time to visit yourself. Take time to still your mind!

Role of teachers and what we owe to them: Sandipani, which means “Sage of Gods”, was a guru of Lord Krishna and Balarama. The Sandipani Muni ashram is located 5 km from Ujjain railway station (Madhya Pradesh). The area near the ashram, known as Ankapata, is popularly believed to have been the place used by Lord Krishna for washing his writing tablets. The numerals 1 to 100 found inscribed on a stone are believed to have been engraved by Guru Sandipani. Near the ashram is the Gomti Kund, a staircased water tank where Krishna supposedly summoned all the holy waters from various centres so that his old Guru, Sandipani Muni would not have to travel other holy places.

After completion of education, once Krishna and Balarama came to meet their Guru and finding him very sad and with drawn seek to know the reason. They get to know that their Guru’s only son has been taken by a Rakshasa by name Shankasur owning a conch named ‘Panchajanya’ to a place called Prabhasa Thirtha.  Knowing this, Krishna and Balarama go in search of Shankasur and kill him after a terrible fight and bring back their Guru’s son.

Some scriptures say that their Guru asked this favour as Guru Dakshina immediately after the completion of their education. Well, these things don’t matter to us. What is important is that Krishna pays his ‘Guru Dakshina’ even at the cost of his life. Even Krishna who is considered the Lord of the world pays his due to his Guru as ‘Dakshina. 

Jesus Christ before going around giving his sermons, goes to John the Baptist for getting ‘baptized’. At that time John the Baptist recognizes Jesus as the Saviour and says ‘You have come to resurrect us. I am baptizing everyone in your name and proclaiming your arrival. How can I baptize you?’. Jesus smiles and replies ‘Don’t we both know that you were my master (meaning Guru) in my previous life and in that right you can baptize me even now’. Even when a ‘shishya’ surpasses his Guru, he remains the ‘student’ to his Guru.

Guru Dakshina is thus just not the fees that you pay to your Guru. When you know that your Guru is in pain, trouble, need, to do everything in your power to deal with it, do away with it and to get your Guru out of it is also ‘your duty’ and should be paid as ‘Guru Dakshina’ and not as a ‘help’ or ‘favour’.

When I am preparing tea or arranging for lunch, students come and ask ‘can I help you?’. You can’t ‘help a teacher. That person is teaching you. You ‘serve’ that person. Moreover, here the lunch or tea is for them so they actually are serving (i.coi taking) for themselves, so where is the question of helping me or serving me? It is a very small thing but very important as it forms the basis of our definition of ‘who we are’. Listen to your words and know their meaning and see if they make any sense. In short, ‘know thyself’! Because, all this is your karma and that decides your destiny. Looks farfetched? But it’s true. Trust me, I am not exaggerating….
