Everything changes

…contd….

“Everything changes”. Such simple words and yet…..we were lost in silence. Most of us just closed our eyes automatically and we didn’t even know when we went into meditation. How long? God knows. But, it was one of the best meditation experiences we all shared today.

It was well, past 4 pm when we started opening our eyes. Sometime later, Priya served us all tea with biscuits.

“This tea is one thing that would never change” said Murali and everyone laughed.

“And so is our good time that we have here, insights that we get here, comfort that we experience here – well these also don’t change. Students stream may change but the benefit that they receive doesn’t” added Rahul.

“True. Our Guruji is also the same. People may come, people may go but she receives all the same way” added Aziz.

“Isn’t that fascinating that in the world where everything changes, She remains the same” mumbled Swathi lost in thought.

“That means where everything changes ‘something’ remains ‘unchanging’ continued Vidya.

“Like our Guruji is the static one and the students are changing” I added.

“Yes. When our feelings and emotions are changing, the one who is observing all this is the same” continued Swathi.

“So there must be something that never changes too. Right?” asked Priya and everyone nodded their head but didn’t open their mouth for want of answer.

“That is what is called witness, Brahman” came her voice.

We saw her standing at the door. We hadn’t yet put on the lights in the hall. The street light shone behind her. Her frame was clear but we couldn’t see her face.

“And that is the only thing worth knowing. Meditate on it” she completed.

Her voice was so effective that we sat in meditation without another word. The silence that I experienced in meditation that day was unique and beautiful. I was in tears when I opened my eyes couple of hours later. Looking at others’ face, I knew they too had some beautiful experience. We looked around for our Guruji. But she was no where to be seen. Then it hit us that she had said that she would come back only in the morning. Then what was it that we saw? The whole experience was so heavy that we ate our dinner in silence. We didn’t even register as to what we ate.
