Buddha and the lake

Buddha and the lake

Once, a woman came to a lake in the forest. She filled her pitcher with water. Later, she took bath, washed her clothes and while leaving said “how muddy is this lake! Glad I don’t have to come here daily”.

Sometime later a Buddha passed the lake. Seeing lake, he came near the lake, kneeled down and drank water. Later looked at his reflection and said “how clear is this water! I can see my reflection clearly. God bless this lake and may God be praised”.

Both had come to same lake, yet came back with different opinion about it. Why?

The woman used the lake for her various uses and in the process made the water muddy. After using, she was thankless and over and above that she commented on the quality of lake – which was result of her own action.

Buddha on the other hand just drank the water without disturbing it and hence could see his reflection in it and he hence found lake clear.

Lake represents our mind. The muddy our thoughts, agitated our emotions, we would not be able to see our reflection and we say “I am not peaceful”, whereas a Buddha whose mind is calm and composed is ever peaceful as this lake.

So, to be peaceful what do we do? Simple Meditate!

But, when I meditate all sorts of thoughts come to my mind.

Good. Then start with healing and those thoughts, then do re-birth meditation and then start doing meditation.

Get connected with self and be ‘peaceful’.
