Life is a voyage and not a destination
Before going any further on to know how to deal with anger, let’s first understand what constitutes anger and why we get angry. After all, knowing the problem is half as good as solving it. Let’s look at the results of being angry.
· We lose clarity of thought. Instead of solving the problem we become the problem. Many times, the solution is right under our nose, but we tend to overlook it because we are angry. If there is an issue which you would like to change, then be calm first. Only a calm mind can be reactive oriented and not get blown over by the situation.
· We lose the person, many times for ever – if not physically, then mentally a dent is made in a relationship which takes many years to heal – sometimes life times to heal.
· We end up saying things we never meant – then end up wasting our entire life justifying and explaining that episode.
· A chemical reaction takes place that generates strong acids in our system that burn our digestive lining thereby causing ulcers and other digestive related diseases in the long run.
· Acidity is the by-product of the anger. So, is BP and hyper-tension.
Now, you come up with other reasons as to not to be angry…..
Now, let’s look at things or reasons for which one gets angry:
· People in our life are the main reason.
· We are not happy the way things are going on in our life.
· Any other reason ? Tell me, then I will continue with this topic …..
1. We are not happy the way things are going on in our life: The main reason for this reason to be the causative factor is that we don’t look at the reason from the right angle. Each of us, many times is hurrying away the life. And in this hurry, delays and stop-gaps irritate us because we presume they’ll cause us to reach the destination late. And mind you, we don’t even know which destination we are going towards.
But Life is a voyage not a destination. We convince ourselves that life will be better once we are married, have a baby, then another.
Then we get frustrated because our children are not old enough and we hope that all will be well when they are older but even then it never seems to happen that way.
Then we are frustrated because they reach adolescence and we must deal with them. Surely we’ll be happier when they grow out of the teens.
We tell ourselves our life will be better when our spouse get his/her act together, when we have a better car, we can take a vacation, when we finally retire.
The truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now!
Our life will always be full of challenges. It is better to admit as much and to decide to be happy in spite of all.
For the longest time, it seemed that life was about to start. Real life!
But there was always some obstacle along the way, an ordeal to get through, some work to be finished, some time to be given, and some bill to be paid. Then life would start.
We see Life’s challenges as Problems not as challenges. If only we could call them as Puzzles to be solved and not as Problems, may be we would be less angry with the situations in Life. Everyone fails to understand that those obstacles were life.
That point of view will help everyone see that there isn’t anything worth worrying - only issues that need planning and action as and when time demands. All roads lead to happiness. Because, Happiness IS the road! With this awareness, anger is dropped automatically, when situations are not “conducive” as per our expectations.
So, enjoy every moment. Happiness is a voyage; not a destination! There is no better time to be happier than…Now!
