Bhaktha and his bhakti – Guru Shishya – My Guru and Me

Bhaktha and his bhakti – Guru Shishya – My Guru and Me

“Why Guruji, why do you entertain such of these people who have left you, done other’s courses, or been with masters we know for sure are not right people and over and above all this, these people come with a hidden agenda? If we can see through their intentions why are you blind to them?” our group vented out our long suppressed anguish, anger and God knows what feeling we had for such people.

More disgusting was the fact that they praised such masters, despite what or who they were! But she let them come back. We couldn’t accept!

“Whenever Asuras (demons of yore ages) did intense tapas (penance) it was for only power which was harmful for the whole lot of Devas, Rishis (Brahmins and ascetics who would lead their lives ONLY in search of TRUTH and were into such practices only!) and people following Dharma – in short, to all who were good and meek. And yet, the Asura would be granted a boon at the end of his penance!” our Guru started to explain and I cut her sentence with my question. “But we are talking about these students and…”. She smiled at me and continued her explanation thereby not letting me finish my question. “Kaikasi, daughter of Sumali, a rakhshasa wanted to have a son who was powerful and full of “tejas”. Her father right from birth fed her with the stories of Daityas, stepbrothers of devas being cheated, insulted and won over by devas. So she became highly biased towards Daityas and hence she wanted to have a son so powerful as to vanquish their mortal enemy – Devas – and get supremacy over the three worlds.”

One of us luckily intervened to ask a question that struck most of us at the time. “Guruji, aren’t Devas gods and Asuras, demons? Then why are you using Daityas for Asuras? Does Asura not mean demonic by nature? And how come they are step brothers?”

Contd........

questions answered :

  • How do I repay people who are mean to me?
  • What is the 'RIGHT' way to behave with people when they are manipulative and wrong in every way?
  • Why are Asuras called so?
  • What were asuras originally called?
How and when enmity between devas and asuras start?

Points to be understood :
  • We may have lots of reasons to get back at people who hurt us or are manipulative in nature. But if our behaviour depends on who they are then are we not on the same line as them?
  • If what you do and the other does to you is the same, then how do you think they are bad and you 'good'?

Image result for desire fulfilled quotesThat apart, atleast we knew that ‘asura’ doesn’t mean demons.

This happened often here. We came with one question but went back with answer for questions we didn’t even ask. At times, we had those questions with us for years and yet they were never asked or were forgotten. Still, we received our answers – for questions asked and unasked too!

“I don’t agree! Many times, I didn’t even get answer for my question asked” complained Vaishnav.

“That’s because of our closed minds, attitudes and adamant nature” replied Rahul.

Some of us agreed to that!

We related it to our experience. But Vaishnav couldn’t accept Rahul’s explanation too. We let it be! There was no point continuing to explain it to him.

Image result for universal law of karma quotesImage result for character and destiny quotes“So you see” started our Guru starting immediately after she returned to her seat “Even God’s knew the characters and intentions of Asuras when you sought boons. They still were granted them. Not because Gods were fooled by their behaviour or their praise. They earned it by their ‘sadhan’*. But their intention being wrong they bore the brunt of their wish fulfillment by meeting their ends as their wish were fulfilled! What an irony! If God’s won’t stop giving boons to these Asuras why should I stop my doors and lectures to these people who come with wrong intentions? I don’t have to close my doors to them. I can teach all that I want to teach and they need to learn. They still will absorb only what ‘they deserve’. That is for sure! Even if their intentions are hidden from me (which many times is not as we knew) their karma and their intentions will take them towards their destiny of their downfall only. This is governed by Universal Law and Divine who oversees all and rules all! I don’t have to do HIS job. He knows to get it right through me!”

(*sadhan – loosely translated in English could be interpreted as ‘hard work’ done to heal self or earn points seeking favours from the demi-gods/Gods above!)

Points addressed :

  • We don't have to play God and punish people...
  • Just work on your emotions and feelings and their karma will catch up with them sooner than later
  • Why do you have to incur 'bad karma' by punishing or hurting people who have wronged you? Develop your character and make it so strong enough to move on beyond these little idiosyncrasies of little people.

Questions answered :
  • How to hurt people who hurt you?
  • Why should we let people who are bad and wrong get away with their actions?
  • What happens to peoples' bad intentions and actions when they think they have gone scot-free...?
  • What is the Universal Law of retribution and how it works?

Me, My Guru – Virochana and Indra

Me, My Guru – Virochana and Indra

“Guruji, you once told us that Sage Kashyapa had two wives – Aditi and Diti. He had married two sisters. Children born to Aditi are called ‘devas’ and those born to Diti are called ‘asuras’. If they are brothers, why is there such a difference in their character?” asked one among us.***

“The reasons are many” started our Guru “One is the quality and character of their mothers. Next is how they approached their Guru and what they had learned from him. And,” she was stopped here and asked by someone here “Today, tell us how and what they learned from their Guru. That would help us to learn right from you. Maybe, that’s why not all of your students are devas or sattvic in nature. Many have turned out to be Asuras and I always wondered why. Maybe, this story will clear our doubts in this regard”

We all laughed. That was a good joke!

But, before she could continue explaining, Rahul came with tea for all. We were also served some biscuits and some snacks brought by Rahul today. He said it was to show his gratitude towards Reiki for making his life easy and comfortable.

It was after everyone had some time chit-chatting that our Guru continued narrating her story “At one time, Indra, the king of Devas and Virochana, the King of Asuras, both decided to learn about Self – the highest of Knowledge from Prajapathi, the Creator. They both sought this Knowledge from Him. He asked them to come and stay with him for 32 years as Brahmacharis (Celibates). They left their kingdoms in good hands and surrendered their 32 years in learning about Self!

In these years, Prajapati taught them the importance of good health, wealth and waking consciousness (Jagrat Avastha).

Pointers to understand this post:

"If they are brothers, why is there such a difference in their character?” asked one among us.***" - Look at the question carefully. The statement is very clear. The fact that Asuras and devas are brothers is already told and explained to the students. If that fact is explained, then their nature, the reason why they are called so and the reason for their enmity would also be clearly explained. And yet, the students end up asking the 'question' the answer to which has already been given!!??

Understand this! Know this! Be aware of this!

We forget even when explained.

We don't understand even when explained.

And then, we keep crying that we are not explained! (by Guru/Reiki/God).

Increase the 'worthiness' through regular healing' and then our understanding also will increase accordingly. Then, if and when we are explained something, we will both remember that and also understand that.

"And,” she was stopped here and asked by someone here “Today, tell us how and what they learned from their Guru " - Look closely at this. We choose what we want to receive. That is not wrong. That is our right. But, then we cry when we are living our choice! That is the cause of our suffering. Understand that!

"Many have turned out to be Asuras and I always wondered why. Maybe, this story will clear our doubts in this regard” " - It is always about others! Don't make your life story - others! Live your life. Don't make it always about others! Use your time and energy to understand 'yourself'. Only that understanding will benefit you. Don't waste time in judging, taunting others. You also loose your energy in these activities. Don't waste your energies on others.

" We were also served some biscuits and some snacks brought by Rahul today. He said it was to show his gratitude towards Reiki for making his life easy and comfortable. " - We want others to show their gratitude. We want to benefit from their expression of gratitude. And yet, when it comes to show our gratitude, we have our excuses. We end up coming up with tears and our sob stories. Think about that!

" He asked them to come and stay with him for 32 years as Brahmacharis (Celibates). They left their kingdoms in good hands and surrendered their 32 years in learning about Self! " - Look at both Indra and Virochana. Both of them are Kings of kingdoms beyond our level of understanding. None of us holds an office bigger than them! We are no way near them either. And yet, even to attend a 'day class' we have our excuses ready - always! We don't have time to heal. We don't have time to spend with our master/Guru. We don't have time to meditate. And yet, all want to be Masters.

And yet, all want to be Grand Masters.

And yet, all want their pains and sufferings to end.

Unless a person has time and interest to sit with his Guru in meditation or whatever his Guru asks him to do, he will not be able to go within and remove the cause of his suffering.

The vicious cycle of birth and death, pain and suffering is not going to end - anytime soon!

Bhaktha and his bhakti – Guru Shishya – My Guru and Me

Image result for character and destiny quotesAditi approached her husband for impregnation during the boons hours of the day and hence children came out to be “light being” or more famously called “devas”, full of sattva guna, whereas Diti’s desire to mate at untimely hours (sandhya kale – a time when Shiva’s ganas return to Kailash). Knowing the consequence of such act at that hour Kashyapa Muni tried to reason with his wife but desire clouded her understanding capacity and she had her desire fulfilled. The resultant children born to her though powerful as of the great Saptarishi Kashyapa Muni were tamasic or demonic in nature and came to be called as “Daityas”, later identified as “Asuras”. The meaning associated with the word being “demonic in nature”. Daityas means “born of Diti” and Adityas means “born of Aditi”. That’s how names were given in those days and in Sanskrit.”

Image result for character and destiny quotes
We all were surprised well most of us. Yes, we knew bits and pieces of this story but how the name came about and how in spite of being step or half-brothers, they became mortal enemies – forever to come – ONLY because of their “attitude” disposition was so strong - that was news to us.

Image result for character and destiny quotes
“Devas because of their ‘sattva gunas’ – attitudes like self-restraint, being benevolent, protecting the weak and right, purity and so on and so forth were given ‘Swargaloka’(heaven). They were also given powers and positions of being guardians of the world.

Image result for character and destiny quotes
But ‘asuras’ or Daityas did not receive any powerful position to rule any aspect of the Universe – though they were given ‘patala loka’ (their domain and region) to prosper. Envy, greed and power hungry ‘asuras’ hence kept waging wars with devas at regular period to gain supremacy and sovereignty over the worlds” she paused a bit longer than usual before continuing “and hence enmity and gap between them widened over generations".

Image result for desire fulfilled quotes
“Fine!” she said without even a single frown. “Let’s go back further and start from the beginning. “All that IS” whom we usually refer to as “the Brahman” or “the God” at one point of time felt and wanted to be many and said “let me be many” and the universe came into being! He then created “Brahma” - the master and creator of all beings. He had 7 mind-born sons (Saptarishis) and one of them was Kashyapa Mahamuni (sage). He married 13 out of 60 daughters of Prajapati Daksha. Among his wives were Aditi (mother of Devas) and Diti (mother of Daityas, later came to be known as Asuras).

Image result for desire fulfilled quotes
As a society during vedic times, sexual attraction and intercourse was accepted as an essential part of living and hence a set of rules were laid for the same. One such rule said that when a woman initiates for sex it is wrong on the part of the man to displease or reject her. That’s why King Arjuna in Mahabharata gets cursed by a Naga Kanya when he doesn’t encourage her advances towards him.

Her explanation seemed simple and straight. She didn’t tell or justify her actions. She just stated her confidence in the Universal Law and its operation. She trusted HIM beyond our levels of understanding and acceptance. She knew JUSTICE and DHARMA prevailed come what may! She chose not to be the ‘one judging others and punishing them’ at her will and fancy!
How noble were these words! How easy it seemed! How impossible they actually were!
Image result for universal law of karma quotes

We received our answers. We received more than what we had asked.

Yet we weren’t in ‘accepting mode’. Our anger and agitation still persisted.

We still hated those people who were manipulative.

She was smiling peacefully. She moved on with other topics.

Image result for universal law of karma quotes

We were stuck in our hatred caused by our judgment of others!

We chose this.

She chose that!

  • Even if after being pointed out the importance, possibility, need and the possibility of not getting even with people whom we disagree with, dislike in our lives - what is the purpose of listening to all discourses? What is the purpose of being called a Reiki Channel?
  • What is the purpose of being a student if Guru's words are not implemented?
  • If one wishes to do as he pleases how and why does he at all come to anyone calling him his Guru? Just to make him 'fulfill his personal desires'?

Bhaktha and his bhakti – Guru Shishya – My Guru and Me

 Contd.....

Bhaktha and his bhakti – Guru Shishya – My Guru and Me

We complained that it was too heavy for us and that we needed a break!

She smiled and agreed for it. We had a tea break and that gave us an excuse for our animated talks and exchange of views on the subject being discussed. She left with her cup of tea. She wanted to relish it I suppose!

Image result for character and destiny quotes
Intention for having a child and attitudes of parents, circumstances that lead to the birth of a child – all these determine the character and fate of the child. This was told to us often and yet we found it surprising even this time!

Image result for character and destiny quotes
Add caption

Maybe because it was just a story for us and we heard it so but we didn’t take the essence from it. Were we afraid to see the results of our actions? Or were we avoiding this because deep down we were hugely responsible for who our kids were and we were not strong enough to accept that Truth or carry it on our shoulders? ONLY a person who accepts that he has a problem can ever solve or overcome it, but as long as we push the blame on to others how can and why would we work on healing ourselves?

Image result for desire fulfilled quotes
No doubt, the major part of us wasn’t healed inspite being “sadhak” (or should I say – supposed sadhak!) since such a long time!

That apart, now at least we knew that ‘asura’ doesn’t mean demons.

Me, My guru – working of Karma noted in a real life situation!

Me, My guru – working of Karma noted in a real life situation!

Our Guru continued “It is very simple. I’ll give you a few real-life examples. Listen and understand for yourself how karma acts and comes back.

Though these examples are real, this is not the only way karma works every time. These examples are not to be taken as a whole. This is one of the ways karma works. That’s how you are to understand it.

1st case: Recently, one girl came to me regretting a lot. She said “30 years back you told me not to marry this guy against my parents’ wish. I didn’t listen to you. I left the house without my parent’s permission and knowledge and got married. Now, my daughter ran away to an ashram and stated that she’ll not come back home. We pleaded and agreed to all her conditions to bring her back from that ashram. The conditions were:

You’ll let me do whatever I want to do. You’ll not stop me from pursuing my career.

I hate marriage thanks to you people. I’ll never marry. You’ll not force me to.

I hate my mom. I don’t want her to interact with me – ever!

Now, I’ve understood the pain I’ve given to my parents with my actions then. I am receiving what I gave. This is my karma coming back. I know this is nothing when compared to all the pain of my past actions. Now, I want to restart and learn Reiki. I want to start healing once again – this time not for any material benefit but sincerely to heal all the pain I’ve given to all – including you”

I am sure this is clear enough for you to understand how karma works. It may take time but it strikes at ‘the right time’ and through ‘the right means’.

On reflections – on dog

On reflections – on dog

Next, I came on the terrace to walk and to watch sunset. And it was ‘by fluke’ that I noticed that dog – and the experience was magical.

Magical moments happen mostly ‘in such spontaneous moments’.

When we are not on look out, we actually receive more!

Know this! Observe and then imbibe ‘non-expectation’ with more vigour, disgust (for expectations) and conviction!!

Next, happy moments ‘need not be’ and ‘should not be’ defined by us! If we do, we miss out on million other happy moments. Be available to the moment. Flow with the flow. And lo! Even in the worst of situations, you’ll find ‘precious moments’ of joy, love, beingness, appreciation, gratitude, happiness and understanding.

One who is bound to his ‘preference’ and ‘likes’ will exist for 100yrs maybe but would’ve hardly lived life!

One who loses his preference from his perspective will sooner reach ‘his heaven’ – right here in this world!!!

Both reflect our ‘choice’. Both are within our reach. This is ‘in our hands’. The one who is bent on ‘waiting for the other’ to fit into his expectations will experience ‘hell’ every single moment of his life!
