Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Pointers to understand the post:

Even without turning around Pundarika pushed a brick and replied “Welcome Lord! Please stand on that brick lest your feet get dirty with mud (as it was monsoon season).”” – One who is engrossed in SERVICE doesn’t try to PLEASE OTHERS OR FLATTER OTHERS to get his work done. He doesn’t manipulate. The purity in service itself becomes the key to your success. If success doesn’t come in spite of hard work, look within. Meditate. Find out where you are lacking in “serving right”. Don’t think that JUST DOING service qualifies “receiving blessings or grace”. The intent should be pure.

Service is done just for the sake of service.

If it is done seeking something, it stops being service.

Pundarika even without turning still replied, “So the parental service has such power that you had to come even though uncalled?”” – This is enough to understand the importance of doing any job with nishta, Shraddha and bhakthi. The job done because you have no other choice gives returns accordingly. The job half-done also reaps such benefits. The work which lacks love doesn’t give happiness to the doer and the receiver.

Look at the way the job at hand is done.

Find ways to better it.

Improve the quality of work done – any work worth doing is worth doing well!

Understand how work properly done releases us from our karma and the work not done properly binds us to our karma!

Meditate on this!

Work on this!

Use it for your growth, success, redemption and happiness.

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Pointers to understand the post:

I asked as she was sipping her tea. This was break-time. And I used it to pose my question to her.” – Read these sentences couple of times more.

Such a common attitude that it gets overlooked most of the time.

Most of us wouldn’t even notice that if it is our quality. But, if it is from the other, then, yes, we get irritated.

Why? We get irritated because we can see the other person wanting to squeeze maximum from us in the limited time and in exchange for what “little” he pays us! Classic example is “My boss gives me so much of work”

“My Co pays less but expects me to work even extra hours”

“My pay hike is just 20% when I deserve (read it as desire though) 40%”

All this say that we feel we are being exploited.

But, when it comes to receiving from others, we get angry if the other person maintains “time” or such rules.

By one time payment as fees (for the classes that you ATTEND) you think you have right to take counselling from me all your life. And that too at your convenience. Mails are sent at God forsaken times demanding solutions and INSTANT healing to your issue.

This DEMANDING NATURE is the cause of friction between how you treat others and how expect to be treated. And that difference in giving and receiving is the cause of generating “Karma” in your life.

No God is punishing you.

Our attitude DOES!

“In modern times that is this Kaliyuga in the banks of….” – This story is of this “yuga aka modern times”. This is to show that this “Quality of serving” parents (in this story but applies to any other relationship also) is not outdated. It is the pre-requisite for everyone to overcome one’s ignorance, problems and gain access to abundance and success in life.

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

All other times, the same service becomes our karma that binds us to this World.

So, you see whether to make your duty, responsibility and service a bondage or as a means towards your freedom – depends upon you – on you alone!

Understand correctly and act accordingly!

Justifying your intention can’t fool the Universe. IT KNOWS!

If your service is pure, it speaks for itself. The entire Universe comes to you unasked. NOT otherwise!” concluded our Guru.

I didn’t like her answer.

Many times, like today, I regretted asking her a question. I wasn’t satisfied with what I heard. She didn’t validate what I believed. She didn’t utter words I wanted her to tell. My anger for her was thus justified today!

I felt dissatisfied, hurt crying (silently), irritated, hopes shattered, frustrated and angry!

Boy, how I wish someone understood me and stood by me today!

Today, I stood alone with my pain and suffering!

And, she was the reason I was standing alone today!

Question time:

"And, she was the reason I was standing alone today!" - Read a couple of sentences before this sentence.

Now answer a few questions:

Who is the cause of my pain and suffering?

Why do I consider "her" to be the reason for me standing alone?

What does it say?

How should the Guru behave right to make me happy?

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

But, if you serve with total love, then it is a different story altogether. Love means you have no other agenda or desire other than serving them. Your service is not to benefit from it in any way. It is to give them what they want and how they want it. giving what we have in excess doesn’t count as service. Forcing them to give money (even if for your business) is torture and you can’t say “I wanted to expand business to give them comforts. I served my parents”. NO! A big no. We need to give, give and, give to parents. That is serving.

Giving is also making life easy for them by doing their chores, running errands for them, picking and dropping them wherever they want to go and as many times as they want to go”.

Here, I stopped her and asked, “Then what about my comfort Guruji?” can’t I get tired of running around for them and tell them to sit at home instead of going around relative’s places”.

“When you want mangoes, if I am giving you a lorry full of chocolates, will you praise me or like me? Will you appreciate that? Will you accept it? will you be happy? asked my Guruji.

“No for all” I replied a bit irritated.

“Serving at your whim and fancy is not serving. Giving what you want to give, at your leisure and with your conditioning is no giving or serving. Understand this clearly” our Guruji replied.

“When we are selfless in serving then it gives results beyond our imagination. When we serve to make it comfortable and to their taste it becomes powerful enough to heal all our karmas. Otherwise, even service binds us to our karma when we do with a desire, with a selfish intent or any emotion other than love.

Service redeems us of our karmas when our intent is pure, we act out of selflessness, our emotion is love and we are desireless.

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Pundarika even without turning still replied, “So the parental service has such power that you had to come even though uncalled?”

Lord said, “Yes, parental service has such power”.

Pundarika replied, “If parental service has such power, how can I leave it? At present I am busy. Better come some other time”.

Lord then came in front of Pundarika and said, “I am pleased with your bhakthi for your parents. I was testing you. Ask for any boon”.

Pundarika said, “Whatever flaw is there in my devotion towards my parents, let it be made good. As you said this is the highest service, I don’t ask for anything else.”

Lord blessed him and decided to stand on that brick as a mark of his appreciation.

God is not “egotist” as many ASSUME. He is not “narcist, greedy or selfish’ either wanting everyone to love ONLY HIM!  He appreciates and becomes bound to love – be it expressed to anyone whole-heartedly.

When we serve our parents because we need them – be it physically, emotionally or financially – we may receive what we desire in exchange for our “service”, but we can’t expect love, respect or moksha in exchange for that service. If we desire to get a “good child” tag in exchange for what we do to our parents, we may get it too, but our karma can’t be healed in such a barter arrangement.

Our service was in exchange for something of this World, it is business. And whose karma gets healed doing business?

Since karma is not healed, what you need to face as per destiny can’t be done away with. So, you’ll face problems in spite of servicing your parents.

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

Me, My guru – On duties, responsibilities and results

“Guruji, I serve my parents well and yet why do I suffer so much? Did you not say that one who gets to serve his parents is the one doing service of the greatest order? If I am doing ‘the greatest service’ how come I still have problems in life?” I asked as she was sipping her tea. This was break-time. And I used it to pose my question to her.

My Guru answered me with this story.

“In modern times that is this Kaliyuga in the banks of river Candrabhaga in Pandharpur lived a devotee named Pundarika. In this town, we still find the images of his parents and Pundarika. Pundarika took a vow to devote his life to serving his parents. One day he was giving oil massage to the tired legs of his parents. It was their bedtime. Lord Pundarika came uninvoked and stood behind him and said “Pundarika, I am God. I have come to see you”.

Even without turning around Pundarika pushed a brick and replied “Welcome Lord! Please stand on that brick lest your feet get dirty with mud (as it was monsoon season).”

Lord said “But Pundarika, I am the Lord of this Universe. I have come to meet you. And you don’t have time to meet me?”

Pundarika replied “Lord, can’t you see that I am now serving my parents. I am busy serving my parents. Please tell me why you came now.”

Lord said, “I am pleased with your parental devotion and have come to give darshan to you”.

Pundarika even without turning still replied, “So the parental service has such power that you had to come even though uncalled?”

Lord said, “Yes, parental service has such power”.

Pundarika replied, “If parental service has such power, how can I leave it? At present I am busy. Better come some other time”.
