Me, my Guru – Bhagavatam – Bhaktha Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap

Contd....

Me, my Guru – Bhagavatam – Bhaktha Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap

Guru was afraid – if the king knew the acts of Prahlad through other sources, Hiranyakashyap may presume that the Guru had taught young Prahlad all this. That would mean death to the Guru. Guru was not ready to face that punishment. So, he took Prahlad to the Hiranyakashyap and complained that Prahlad was adamant in stating Lord Vishnu as the Saviour God of this World.

Hearing all these complaints, Hiranyakashyap was amused. He felt his son was too young to understand the wrong done by him. So, he took him near and with lots of love tried to explain how Lord Vishnu was the enemy of Daityas and how Hiranyakashyap was the God of this Earth.

But young Prahlad who was just 7 years was sure of his knowledge. He didn’t bat an eye. With an innocence of a 7year old, he corrected his father and said, “Yes father, being a parent you are my God. Because as per shashtra, every parent is a God to his child. But, God of this Universe, of you and me is the one and only – Lord Vishnu”.

Hearing this Hiranyakashyap lost it and started shouting. Yet, Prahlad didn’t fear him. He didn’t change his stand.

As time passed Hiranyakashyap lost his cool and forgetting the fact that Prahlad was his only son, asked his soldiers to kill him by throwing him from the mountaintop. They followed his orders. Prahlad kept chanting the “hari nama” (Divine name of Lord Vishnu). Prahlad was saved. He was brought to Hiranyakashyap. He was enraged. He changed the means to kill Prahlad 7 times. And each time Prahlad was saved.

Not once did Prahlad slip and feel “How can my father hate me so and try to kill me in such cruel ways?”

He was immersed in his bhakthi so much that he was filled with only thoughts and feelings of love for Lord Vishnu. That ‘love’ for the Divine became his protecting shield that protected him. The moment we see the person who is being cruel, selfish, and hurting towards us, we get bound by the Laws of the Universe and Karma. That becomes our seed for pain and suffering.

Questions answered in the link:

Who was Hiranyakashyap?

How hating God brings you close to HIM?

What does chanting the name of God do to us?

If chanting the  God's name brings us closer to God, then when we chant the name of people whom does go close to?

Me, my Guru – Bhagavatam – Bhaktha Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap

Contd....

Me, my Guru – Bhagavatam – Bhaktha Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap

Hiranyakashyap had conquered the entire Earth. Like all Daityas, his sworn enemy was Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap had a valid reason for his hatred – his dear brother Hiranyaksha was killed by the Lord Vishnu also called as Lord Narayana.

Being powerful, Hiranyakashyap forced all his subjects to consider and call him God. He killed everyone and anyone who worshipped Lord Vishnu.

To this Hiranyakashyap, was born his only son Prahlad. When Prahlad was in the womb, his mother was waylaid by Sage Narada. During that time Sage Narada would recite the sacred name of Lord Vishnu. He narrated the Truth about Vishnu. He explained how Vishnu was the Be-all of the Universe and how Lord Vishnu was the only Lord of the Universe. Little Prahlad heard all this when he was still in the womb of his mother. So, when he was born, he was already drunk with devotion (bhakthi) for Lord Vishnu.

Prahlad at the age of 6 was sent to Gurukul as was the custom in those days. (Gurukul is the place of a Guru who teaches all subjects to his students till their 16 years and students would be sent back to their parents after that). There our young Prahlad started singing hymns on Lord Vishnu. He would narrate and regale all with stories of Lord Vishnu. Other students too joined him in singing praises of Lord Vishnu. His master noticing this, tried to talk sense to him – but to no avail. He was threatened but to no use! Having tried all means and having lost hope of refining Prahlad, Guru took him to the King - Hiranyakashyap. Gur was afraid – if the king knew the acts of Prahlad through other sources, Hiranyakashyap may presume that the Guru had taught young Prahlad all this. That would mean death to the Guru. Guru was not ready to face that punishment. So, he took Prahlad to the Hiranyakashyap and complained that Prahlad was adamant in stating Lord Vishnu as the Saviour God of this World.

Milestone reached – The penultimate one 304 posts!

Milestone reached – The penultimate one 304 posts!

We have reached the penultimate milestone of 304 posts for the year 2021.

The only milestone to be reached that is left out yet is of the year 2020 – 329 posts!

If we can reach that target, we would have reached the highest till date (since 2009 when the blog was started).

Excited?

Worried?

Tensed?

Doubtful?

Hopeful?

What are your emotions regarding this last milestone?

Now, you may not feel much for this blog – for it is not personal for you.

But, learn from this exercise.

Each one of you do surely have your own milestones which you are year marked to reach – the milestones that you have already set for yourself.

These milestones could have been the ones that you have already reached once before.

Maybe, they are the ones that others (in your life) have reached.

Or, simply you have set a target for yourself.

Whatever, the way, the journey is the same for everyone and for every kind of milestone to be reached.

We get excited at the start, apprehensive in the middle and relieved when we vreach the finish line!

Look and learn how the blog milestones were reached.

Apply the same for your milestones.

Go the same way.

Reach your targets – effortlessly.

There is no shortcut to perseverance and patience.

The other names for success are just these two attitudes.

Inculcate them. Apply them.

Be it in physical well being, emotional well being, financial success and spiritual journey. Everywhere it is the same.

Enjoy!

On kindness - The strength of the strong!

On kindness - The strength of the strong!

Anyone can retaliate in times of oppression.

Anyone can curse when he is wronged.

Anyone can be brutal when he is cheated and exploited.

But, to be kind to the one who has cheated takes strength.

But, to be kind to the one who has wronged you takes restraint that only the strongest have!

And to have these qualities means you have ‘grace’. You need to be ‘in tune with the Divine’ and be blessed by the ‘grace’ from above. Only the one who has grace can be kind to the cruel. And to receive that ‘grace’ it takes effort from us to show ‘kindness’ to the one who is cruel to us.

Kindness is the easiest way to "come home to ourselves".

Kindness is the easiest route to healing ourselves.

Kindness is the easiest technique that can be used every day by each one of us!

Maarne waale se bachchane wala badaa hai!

Contd...

Maarne waale se bachchane wala badaa hai!

And many times, these are the people who are dear and near ones in our lives. They mostly are our family and friends.

And most dangerous one of all is our own ‘ego’ that is trying to kill our connection with our soul.

And in every situation, ALWAYS remember that the Creator and Saviour is much much more stronger than all the evildoers of our life!

Every time, such toxic people do hard work in your life or you face some tough time say the following prayer – again and again….to build your trust!

“Maarne waale se bachchane wala badaa hai!

ALWAYS remember that the Creator and Saviour is much much more stronger than all the evildoers of our life! So, what is it that I am afraid of?

Why am I afraid?

Am I saying or believing that these people who are just as mortal as me are greater than Reiki/God/Creator who created me and them and the entire Universe?

Does HE not save the ‘right’ from ‘wrong’ ALWAYS?

Don’t you believe that EVERYTHING that happens happens with HIS permission only?

If so, why bother about what the people of this World are doing or saying about you – that is as long as what you are doing is right?”

Maarne waale se bachchane wala badaa hai!

Maarne waale se bachchane wala badaa hai!

What do you understand from this statement?

“Maarne waale se bachchane wala badaa hai!” – What do you do with this statement?

What is supposed to tell you?

Where are you to use it?

How can it help you tide over your rough and tough times?

First, let’s understand the literal meaning of this statement – “The Saviour is much greater than the one who is trying to kill you!”

Isn’t it one of the most beautiful statements to carry with us every day of our lives?

So, for that, we should first understand what it means.

The Saviour is the God/Reiki/Guru/Universe.

And who is the one who is trying to kill us?

You can place anyone and everyone under this head.

It can mean the person who is trying to kill you – maybe not physically but emotionally or psychologically.

It can also mean the person who is trying to bring about your downfall financially. Maybe, it is about the person who is trying to malign your character and bring about your downfall in everyone’s eyes by spreading lies about you. He is trying to kill you and your image in everyone’s eyes and also in your own eyes. He is trying to kill your confidence. He is thus disturbing your emotions and killing your connection with your soul.

Points to understand and questions answered:

  • Toxic people will be found in everyone's life - well, almost! There is nothing to worry about them.
  • Instead of looking at them and thinking about them, divert all your attention towards God/Reiki/Universe.
  • People and things of this World will finally mean nothing in the end. The only thing that comes with you is "how much you have connected yourself with God in all your life" - So work on the ONLY thing that matters and breeze through events and people of this life - singing with joy and dancing in the name of God!
  • When we try to solve everything with "OUR POWER" that is ego and that is limited. And so, we fail or fear failure. Let us do the needful but trust God to run our life. Then see things sort themselves out - at the right time the right way!

Me, My Guru – On Narada and Vishnu – The Greatest devotee of all!

Me, My Guru – On Narada and Vishnu – The Greatest devotee of all!

Our Guru told this beautiful story once “Once Lord Vishnu and Sage Narada went on a walk. During the course of their talk, Narada asked “Pray Lord, tell me who is the greatest of your devotees?”

Narada considered himself to be the greatest Bhaktha (devotee) of the Lord. He was a Brahmachari (celibate) always singing and reciting the name of the Lord. So, who else could it be, he thought? He was silently smiling expecting the Lord to utter his name. even after knowing this fact, it gave him great pleasure to hear the same from the Lord’s mouth!

But the answer that the Lord gave was something that he didn’t expect. “To know that, we have to go to my devotee’s house”!!!

Narada was disappointed – but obviously!

After the long walk, they entered a remote village. On the outskirts of that village was a small piece of land. There was a small hut in the corner of that field. They both knocked on the door of that hut – but of course in disguise.

A frail-looking farmer opened the door. The Lord said, “We are travelers. It is already dusk. We request you to let us stay at your place for today. We’ll leave tomorrow morning”.

The farmer welcomed them with open arms saying “Narayana has sent guests. How can I not serve them? Please come in”.

He gave them water and said “Narayana! Please wash your feet”.

When the Lord and Narada washed their feet, he handed them a towel to wipe their feet saying “Narayana”.

Like this, as he gave them a seat to sit (aasan), food to eat, or a cot to lie on, he would utter “Narayana” once!

Pointers to understand the post:

"During the course of their talk, Narada asked “Pray Lord, tell me who is the greatest of your devotees?”

Narada considered himself to be the greatest Bhaktha (devotee) of the Lord." - Sage Narada himself assumed that he was the greatest bhaktha!!! What audacity!?

The real bhaktha would be so immersed in his bhakthi that he would not even get a thought to ask such a question.

Why? Because, he is so lost in loving the Lord that he has no time to compete with any other person in any field - even if it be as a bhaktha!

Humility is the first quality that develops in a spiritual person. Anyone who is in competing mode can ASSUME HE IS in spiritual mode or path but his competing streak and nature become his enemy for the same.

Look within! Listen to your words! Ask yourself one question at the end of the day "Did I make a statement that reflected the competing nature in me?" If you find it, first, nib it immediately. Don't justify it!. Just kill it.

Shaayari on those who are dear - Galib

Shaayari on those who are dear - Galib

Hamein tho apnon ne hai loota

Gairon mein kahan dam thi

Doobi apni kashthi bhi waheen

Jahan paani kam thi…

हमें तो अपनों ने है लूटा

ग़ैरों में कहाँ दम थी

डूबी अपनी कश्ती भी वहीं

जहाँ पानी कम थी।   - Ghalib

I was plundered by all who were mine

Where did others have the guts to do the same

My ship also sank where

The water was not deep enough!

Only people who are closest to you can CHEAT you and backstab you! Strangers can't!!!

Only the person who you love the most has the power to hurt you! Those you give a damn can't hurt you!!!

This is the worst kind of pain and suffering! Work on it - it may take years to get over this pain. And yet, keep working on it, till it no longer has an impact on you!

The one who cheated and backstabbed was never worth your love and trust! It doesn't reflect who you are! It reflects who they are!

You loving and trusting them reflects who you are - soul that couldn't see through manipulations, lies, cheating because you never did that yourself!

We are what we read! If cheating is not part of my character, it is usually difficult to see that in the other.

Remember, a thief can see ONLY  a thief even in a Buddha! But, a Buddha will see only a buddha even in the thief!!!

Remember this!

Work on getting back your peace of mind!

Take control of your thoughts and feelings!

You will come out of this as a more compassionate, understanding and strong person than ever before!!!

Lootna – to plunder, to exploit, leave one penniless

Gairon – not mine, others, stranger, outsider,

Apna – our own, kith and kin, dear person, ours,

Doobna – to sink

Kashthi – ship

Waheen – there

Paani – water

Jahan – where

Dam – dare, guts,

On facing our biggest foe/enemy

Contd.....

On facing our biggest foe/enemy

Hundreds of Gurus have come and gone. Each of them has said only one thing “Fight this enemy. That is the only purpose of our life”. And yet we keep going as per our ‘intelligence’ with our twisted logic.

Remember, the bigger your enemy, the bigger your victory. The bigger your victory, the greater the hero you end up being! Choose your enemy with care!

Because you are spending all your energy abilities emotions fighting him, what’s the purpose of losing after all this fight with your enemy?

When you fight your inner demon, you never lose even when you lose. It is always a win-win situation. How can you lose to yourself? Think about it! This is some food for thought!

    • Why don't we fight this inner demon?
    • What is the benefit of fighting this enemy of ours?
    • Is is applicable and beneficial in our day-to-day life and its situations?
