On Deepavali – On reviving the Rama within and killing Ravana within

On Deepavali – On reviving the Rama within and killing Ravana within

Be it Hindu pandits killed in Kashmir, Pakistan, Bangladesh or muslims killed during riots elsewhere. It also is Jews executed in thousands during World War II or lynching of Christians at certain places in the name of “witch hunting”. It is also Africans tortured in America as slaves and Buddhists fleeing away from Tibet. There is no end to this hatred and killings unless the asura within is put to sleep. He has to be transformed into a deva. For that we need to transform our asuric qualities into daivic (divine qualities) – little by little every single day.

Let’s work to kill or do away with one head of Raavan representing one negative quality in us this Deepavali. Let’s make way for Rama within us to express himself. Only then “Dharma” can be established in this World and only then can be expect world order to be in place!

Me, my Guru – on perception

Me, my Guru – on perception

Our Guru once was telling a story when I entered the class “Duryodhana was very angry with Bhishma for suggesting Yudhishtra’s name for the coronation. He went to Bhishma and asked “In what way is Yudhishtra better than me? Why do you prefer him over me? Why can’t I be a king?”

Bhishma simply called Yudhishtra and smiled and said “You Duryodhana, go and find 5 good people in this kingdom and bring them to me.

Yudhishtra, you go and get 5 bad persons to me”.

They both left. In the evening, both came back empty-handed. Bhishma asked, “Where are the 5 that I asked you to bring?” To which Duryodhana replied, “There are only cheaters, thugs, and useless scoundrels in our kingdom. I couldn’t find even one good person to bring to you”.

When Bhishma turned to Yudhishtra, he replied “Sir, I searched far and wide but found all to be kind, generous and hard-working. They all are good people. I couldn’t find even one bad person to bring to you”.

needless to say read the entire post by continuing to click 'newer post' at the bottom of the link given above till it comes to an end....so many points in each day's post.....

get back to me with your insights, observations, comments....bye the way, read the comments too - some of them yours maybe but worth going back to your own comments - they speak a lot on your behalf.......

Helpful tips:

This anecdote is from Mahabharata - One of the two great epics of Vedic Philosophy popularly known as Hinduism. Any sensible Hindu would approach these Epics to get answers to his questions of this life and above too! Sage Vyasa after writing the Mahabharata had proclaimed "What isn't in this Mahabharata wouldn't happen in this World. All that is in this World is found here!"

As a kid I thought "What audacity!" and I was floored at this Sage's audacity. How high can one's arrogance be when it is based on Truth?

Points to ponder:

  • Buddha sees buddha everywhere and in everyone.
  • And the impure will see impurity in everyone.
  • The flawed will see flaws in everyone.
  • You are what you read - know that to be true!
  • People are just mirrors reflecting who you truly are!
To understand this point given is a link https://kantipadam.blogspot.com/search?q=prince+sugar read this old post and your queries will be answered

  • If one is unable to see good in the other (within one's circle) then may be that one needs to go within and check on his own feelings and nature...??

Me, my Guru – As you like it

Me, my Guru – As you like it

Today she didn’t wait to ask us questions. She went on with the explanation directly.

“You see in this world there are all types of people. The type of person that you are decides which type of person enters your life. Not only that every person has a good and a bad side. Your nature decides which side of his character he shares with you. So if you see only nasty and greedy part of people that is the side they will show to you. But if you see the good in them, they’ll show the good side of their side to you.

Be genuinely good to the world and you’ll receive good from the world.

Curse the world and the curses will come back from the world. Give love to the world and that love you will receive from the world!

You’ll receive what you give to the world. So follow the simple rule. Give what you desire from the people in your life and you’ll receive that from them.

Changing people in life will not make a difference in what you receive in life. Remember that!

You’ll receive what you receive here also there. If you want to change what you receive from people then change from within – for better! And before long you’ll start receiving all the respect, help and understand from one and all” so saying she left us for good.

Each one received the answer for the question that he carried with him that day. We had our issues and based on that we had our questions prepared.

“I want to end this marriage. I am not getting what I am expecting. Tell me what to do?”

Me, My Guru – On learning!

Me, My Guru – On learning!

“Why is it that an anecdote narrated by you is taken differently by different students?” asked Rahul.

“Once a drug addict was asked “Why did you become a drug addict?” and he replied “Because of my father. He was an alcoholic and a drug-addict and I became one. Later a business man was asked “Who is inspiration for you success?” and he replied “My father. He was an alcoholic and a drug addict and I learnt how any weakness could bring down a person and decided not to become like him. Both had same father and both became what they were because of their father – but one used his example for his downfall and the other to uplift himself.

What ‘an example’ is, is of no importance. What you’ve decided to use it for makes it a good or a bad one.

Duryodhana knew what dharma and adharma was (roughly translated right and wrong). He knew his intentions wouldn’t fall in the category of dharma and hence Bhishma, Vidura and others (Characters from Epic Mahabharata) wouldn’t validate his actions and it was no good to go to them for advice. So, he choose Dushshasana and Shakuni for he knew their principles and how they would support his desires. But Arjuna wanted to walk the path of Dharma and he knew he would falter often and he needed a Guide who would see that he chooses Dharma always. So he chose Krishna over his army. You choose your master/mentor/Guru/guide depending upon your desire, intentions and character. (Even when you change your master/guide/mentor the same rule applies irrespective of what reasons you give). You read words the way you want to interpret them. Whom you choose what you understand reflects who you are” replied his Guru.

“And our every such choice makes or mars our Destiny” sighed Rahul heavily!

Our Destiny is the sum total of all the choices!

Mahabharata - a epic

...contd....

If you don't believe in re-birth and so not in heaven and hell, your mental peace is totally dependent on your character.  A wrong doer is always living in fear and there is no greater hell than fear.

One who is not responsible will never respect himself and insecurity becomes his surname.  And out of that insecurity, he will envy every person who is right - since he knows he can never be him (one who is walking the path of righteousness!).  Envy can never give contentment inspite of owing the whole world.  An envious person can never be proud of himself and will play all games to get a 'good name'.  Even when he gets one, since he knows he doesn't deserve it, will be more fearful of losing it, will be more manipulative so that others don't see through his reality and the chaos continues....and you called him successful looking at his bank balance and other achievements?

Read and re-read all of these once again - again and again to actually understand it!  That is ofcourse if you really want to benefit out of it!  If it is enough to 'complete reading' then once is more than enough!

Wishing you strength to see through your follies and courage to face it and my blessing for you to overcome them and to be able to walk on the 'Right Path' with 'Right People' ALWAYS!

Mahabharata - an Indian epic

...contd...

Utterance of sentence that implied wrong meaning also was/is a sin which had to be paid for.  This Universal Law is beautifully brought forth by this anecdote in Mahabharata....Inspite of the fact, that this sentence was asked to be said by Lord Krishna himself.  This goes to prove that even if the Lord for the good asks you to do something wrong, do it by all means as it is his command, but YOU have to bear the consequences - nevertheless!!!

Duryodhan and his allies, however cruel they were they also committed few good deeds and so were benefitted with stay in heaven for equivalent amount of time and were later shifted to hell for the rest of their astral lives.

The rule of enjoying the fruits of ones' karma as said by Lord Yama is that one's less karma, be it good or bad is first enjoyed by the person and the fruit of bigger portion is later confined to him.  For eg. Pandavas wrong was less when compared to their punya karma and hence they were made to experience hell - the result of bad karma and then they were shifted to heaven as a fruit of their punya karma....whereas Duryodhan 's punya was less when compared to the paap i.e, sins that he had committed and hence he was allocated heaven first and then when his punya was exhausted he was shifted to hell!!!

We can also understand that both good and evil deeds have their respective repurcusions and none can escape them.

Mahabharata - An Epic

......contd......

When they successfully completed the term, they returned to Hastinapur and asked for their kingdom to be returned to them.  When they were denied, they requested Duryodhan to give them atleast five villages.  Duryodhan didnot agree for that too!

Not only that, every wise man like Sage Veda Vyasa, Bhishma, Vidura, Krishna and many like them wanted just and noble king to rule over Bharata Desha (India as was called then..) and Yudhishtra was epitome of justise - whereas Duryodhan was anarchy personified.  The 'right' when it doesn't stand up against the wrong, it is also 'adharma' nay it is greater 'adharma' - injustice than a wrong being done!  In a kingdom where even the empress was not safe from molestation, do you think it would be right for Pandavas to sit back and let things be....Could they let Duryodhan rule?  Do you think ordinary men and women would be safe in such a land?  If one wants people to be safe, women protected and Dharma to reign, then the 'Right' should wage war against the 'Wrong' and 'Evil' if need be!

Hence, war was fought.  Not for themselves but not to let anarchy rule the kingdom.  But even the war fought for Dharma has the same results of children becoming orphans and women being widowed.  This is called as collateral damage caused when any step is taken for the greater good.  Everyone has to pay the price of safety and security.  Did not thousands die and suffer for the freedom of India from British rule?  Can you say that it was unnecessary?

But the people who suffered did vent out their anger on Pandavas and abused them, taunted them saying that they were selfish.  But, the actuality is everyone should pay a price for safety, freedom and to live with pride.

Even Pandavas lost all their children, kith and kin - yet atleast they could see their grandson growing up - King Parikshit - son of Abhimanyu - whereas Kauravas clan was totally destroyed.  They could rule for many more years and bring about prosperity and establish Dharma.  Their desire and dream was to establish Dharma and they could fulfill that.  That way they fulfilled their Swadharma and life's mission.  Their life was one of fulfillment unlike Kauravas and their friends which was lived for selfish reason and out of envy.  They never were peaceful and died walking on the path of Adharma.

Mahabharata - an Indian Epic

Mahabharata-sacred texts

The question was something like "....Excellent but I also have one more question I read in few books that yudushtira was the only one to be offered heaven and all his brothers and wife were offered hell duryodhana who caused the war was offered heaven why? They also say that after the war the kingdom was full if sorrow and unhappy compared to the time duryodhana ruled please explain ...."

After the war of Kurukshetra, like in every war and after every war women lost their sons, husbands and brothers and children became orphans.  The worst hit during and after war is always women and children - both innocent and who don't like and want war.  Pandavas too like them didn't want and like war.  But, they were forced by Duryodhan and his allies to wage war.  They fought not for themselves.  Never make a mistake of coming to that conclusion.  (Usually people justify their fight out of greed and envy using Pandavas stand as an eg...).  If it had been so, they wouldn't have asked for Khandava Vanam (A forest infested by dangerous snakes and demons) to build their empire as their share from King Dhritarashtra.  They could've asked for a prosperous, fertile and equal portion of land as their share from Dhritarashtra and he couldn't have said no to them.

This they asked after Duryodhan tried burning them alive in Vanavrat - building made of wax.  They didnot even fight after this injustice was meted out on them.

Later, when they converted Khandavavan into a prosperous city of Indraprasth, Duryodhan out of envy wanted to take away all their wealth and so hatched a plan along with Shakuni.  According to that plan, Pandavas were invited to Hastinapur, Capital of Kauravas and Pandava's entire kingdom was snatched in gambling by Kauravas.

Later, they were forced to live in forests for 12 years and incognito for one year and the condition kept that if they were recognised, then they had to go and live in forests again for 12 years.....

Scriptures - their purpose

…contd….

Other stories also can have such morals then what is the difference between Mahabharata and such novels? Mainly because in this epic, it chalks out the journey of the soul through its various janmas. It talks about the reason which has caused the birth of a person – be it shikhandi, Krishna,Draupadi or for that matter anyone and everyone in that epic has a previous life that continues into present and their journey after their death is also continued in Mahabharata.  So, one gets to see clearly the reason behind every event, act or person’s nature.

It just doesn’t stop here – because that can be seen in so many TV shows that talk about past life regression.  Mahabharata is a simple to-do list if you want results in any field of your interest – be it professional or spiritual.  Bhagavat Gita which is part of Mahabhara goes bang on to the cause of the problem and also deals with how to handle it, overcome it and finally see that you never come across it ever!

It’s the ultimate in ‘Inner Management’ techniques which when applied by any person in the world will always give the same result without an exception.  It’s the Ultimate Management Book!  It’s simple, applicable, complete and not to forget - latest than the future and hence timeless!

If you want clarification or detailed explanation on any of the above statements, then please post those questions in the comments section and I’ll try to do my best in clarifying your doubts….
