On cow’s milk

On cow’s milk

Drinking cow’s milk – is it good or bad? Is it right or wrong?

It is established fact that the next and only best thing after mother’s milk is ‘cow’s milk’ to the child. It is the safest and only ‘food’ right for both the children, the old and those whose constitution doesn’t support normal diet due to health complications.

Can the ‘safest’ food be ‘wrong’?

As per vedic culture, it is one food item that can be used for any sort of religious practice. It is enough as ‘prasadam’ – the food offered to the God after the religious practices of prayer, best to do ‘Abhishekem’ – a type of washing or cleansing idols as per vedic culture and tradition, used along with rice and clarified butter as ‘ahuti’ – an offering made to the fire God during various forms of pooja or homam.

Let’s keep religion aside for time being. Let’s look at simple facts only. It is again and again established that ‘yogurt’ made from milk is ‘probiotic’ and helps fight the infections and good for our immune system. Of all types milk cow milk had been found to be the best.

Ghee – is the by-product of butter and known to be the best form of fat and is required by the body. It gives ‘good cholestrol’. Cow-dung, clarified butter/ghee offered as an offering to fire daily just twice is known to do away with air  pollution.

Manure made with cow dung, ghee, milk and its urine when sprinkled in the fields is the best manure to the earth and such fields have given excellent yields. These are organic ways of raising crops, age old traditional way of farming in India that maintains the quality of soil and is eco-friendly. All our practices had been eco-friendly all these centuries, until of course we were swept by the flood of  ‘assumed culture and intelligence of the western world’ that brought the down fall of our character, practices and we are now bearing the brunt of such wrong beliefs and practices imbibed from the cultured ‘west’.

Now, why should we go through these benefits and facts about other products that we receive from cow if our simple doubt is ‘is drinking cow’s milk good or bad?’

Guru poornima or Buddha poornima

On Guru Pournami

This is a very special day for people following Vedic culture, Buddhism and Jainism and hence this special day is celebrated both in India and Nepal in a very special way – called as ‘Guru Poornima’.

When it is celebrated : The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July) of the Shaka Samvat, as it is known in the Hindu calendar of India and Nepal. This day marks the first peak of the lunar cycle after the peak of the solar cycle. And this year it falls today!

Significance : This was the day when Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa – author of the Mahabharata – was born to sage Parashara and a fisherman's daughter Satyavati; thus this day is also celebrated as Vyasa Purnima. Veda Vyasa did yeoman service to the cause of Vedic studies by gathering all the Vedic hymns extant during his times, dividing them into four parts based on their use in the sacrificial rites, and teaching them to his four chief disciples – Paila, Vaisampayana, Jaimini and Sumantu. It was this dividing and editing that earned him the honorific "Vyasa" (vyas = to edit, to divide). "He divided the Holy Veda into four, namely Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva. The histories and the Puranas are said to be the fifth Veda." The seat of Guru is hence called as ‘Vyasa Peetam’ meaning ‘the seat of Vyasa’. It is believed that the ‘Guru’ is in the same lineage as ‘Guru Vyasa’ when he takes the seat of the Guru.

As per Hindu Mythology :

This is the day when Lord Shiva shared his knowledge with the ‘Saptarishis’ the Seven Rishis (Seers) and thus became the ‘Adiguru’ or the ‘First Guru’. This happened on the banks of the lake Kantisarovar, which stands a few kilometers above the Kedarnath Temple in the Himalayas. These Rishis then took the mantle of spreading the knowledge in the entire world.

As per Buddhism and Jainism :

This is the day when in Sarnath, the great Gautama Buddha first gave his discourse to his ‘first five disciples’ after his enlightenment.

And this is the day when Mahavira after attaining Kaivalya, made Indrabhuti Gautam, later known as Gautam Swami, a Ganadhara, his first disciple, thus becoming a Guru himself.

Thus, as per any culture or folklore, it is observed that this is the day when the ‘Guru’ initiated his ‘first students’ into his fold of knowledge.

How even your feedback benefits you?

Why I want you to comment often?

This is one question that I’ve been asked few times till now. “Maam don’t you feel you too are insecure and desire for praises and hence keep asking us to ‘comment’ in the blog?”

“If you are detached why do you expect these things in return?”

These and similar phrases have amused me for quite sometime and all I can say is “the answer to such questions is both yes and no”.

Yes for wanting you to comment and no for the reasons you’ve attributed for the same.

Then why do I keep asking you to write in “comments” section?

I don’t want you to sing my praises there. But use this opportunity to a. share your insights with regards to ‘one liners’. That way benefit could be multi-folded. 1. It would help others to see one more perspective and help them to understand it in a better way

2. It’ll help me to know how much I am able to reach you, whether what I wish to express is finding its’ takers or not. If so, how much they have understood? If not, where to correct/better my explanation. This will help and ease your journey towards understanding yourself and to better your clarity of thought with regards to an issue. Otherwise, I move on having written assuming it has reached you only to know few years down the line that it hasn’t. I don’t mind the explanation part. But, I wish if I had explained clearly earlier, may be you would have benefited more from it. That’s all!

B. I request you to share your experiences (if it’s personal just state something like “did emotional healing and found my relationship which had gone soar better). See you need not divulge the details and yet give an example of healing coming to aid to resolve your issue. Don’t take out names or don’t name relationships. In case of money too, don’t mention the amount. Just say received money due to me from my debtor having doing healing. See, simple. Why is it important? Because, it would encourage others in the path of healing to be on it to see the results. You can be someone’s ‘morning star/guiding star’ without even meeting that person and even without doing anything for that person. You can receive blessings coming your way by such a simple act. So think about it! Do share your experiences not only with me but also with other reiki channels through our ‘comments section’. Just share it and you can keep it short if you want.

Bhagavatam – Krishna answers King Dhritarashtra

Bhagavatam – Krishna answers King Dhritarashtra

After the Kurukshetra war (the war which was fought between cousins of Kuru Dynastry – Pandavas and Kauravas, a war between ‘the right and the wrong’ at the end of Dwapara yuga) , King Dhritrarashtra, father of 100 sons called ‘kauravas’ grieved the death of his sons. When Lord Krishna went to console him, he having seen the ‘vishwaroopa’ of Lord Krishna in an earlier instance knew him to be the one who could know the past and future, the cause and the effect of events asked  Krishna, “I had hundred  sons and all of them were killed in the war. Why? You say it is one’s karma that one experiences what one does in life – both good and bad. Then tell me, what was the cause of my grief of having lost 100 sons?”

Krishna replied, “Fifty lifetimes ago, you were a hunter. While hunting, you tried to shoot a male bird, but it flew away. In anger, you ruthlessly slaughtered the hundred baby birds that were there in the nest. The father-bird had to watch in helpless agony. Because you caused that father-bird the pain of seeing the death of his hundreds sons, you too had to bear the pain of your hundred sons dying.

Dhritarastra said, "Ok, but why did I have to wait for fifty lifetimes?"

Krishna answered, "You were accumulating punya (pious credits) during the last fifty lifetimes to get a hundred sons because that requires a lot of punya. Then you got the reaction for the papa (sin) that you have done fifty lifetimes ago."

“But this is wrong!” cried Dhritarashtra.

“No. this is justice and Law of Karma” replied Krishna.

This is a very small anecdote from Mahabharata from Mahabharata – one of the epics of Vedic Culture. Now, what does this tell us?

On religion and peace!

On religion and peace!

More wars are fought in the name of religion than anything else.....religion is for peace and to develop divine qualities in us and if it does not do it, does it matter which religion I follow?

Think about it!

No Snowflake ever falls at the wrong place!

…contd….

Sun God knew that being an asura and with such powerful boon Dambhodbhava was bound to cause havoc but with no other alternative, he fulfilled Dambhodbhava’s wish. Drunk with power as feared by Sun God Dambhodbhava caused terror in the world, devastating all that were good and pious.

 Lord Vishnu

Daksha Prajapathi’s one the daughter Murti wanted to put an end to this asura’s atrocities and did severe penance to please Lord Vishnu. When Lord Vishnu came to fulfill her wish she asked for the power to be given to vanquish the asura. Lord replied “I can’t directly grant you that wish and my desire too is the same and hence will be born as your twin sons – Nara and Narayana who will vanquish that Asura and you thus will be instrumental in ending his life”. She accepted pleased with the boon. She was blessed with Nara and Narayana who were two but were one soul in two bodies.

So Narayana went into forest to do intense tapas when Nara went to fight Dambhodbhava.

Dambhodbhava laughed at young youth who was just a human being who had come to challenge him. But he couldn’t not accept Nara’s challenge for a duel and found that Narayana’s tapas shakthi (power of penance) was indeed being transferred to Nara and hence he even succeeded in breaking his armour. And as per the boon he fell dead immediately. Asura laughed to his heart’s content but was very soon surprised to see Nara running towards him. It took sometime to realize that it was not Nara but Narayana that Nara was talking about who was running towards him. He ridiculed Narayana for having a brother so stupid who wanted to die to break just one of his armour. Narayana simply sat beside him and revived him with his mantra shakthi and Nara went into penance and Narayana continued fight with Dambhodbhava who was also called as Sahasrakavacha (man with 1000 armours). This continued fill both brothers alternatively broke 999 armour.
