Reflections – on washing clothes

Reflections – on washing clothes

And before long – wow – you’ve started giving 100% to every act or job you perform. When we get there later – we’ll talk about what to do about it – but for now, let’s stick to this agenda!

This is not about just ‘correcting the wrong’!

But, this is about doing what ‘ought to be done’ ’the right way’ every single time. It is to do better than ‘good’ every time. And, when we become ‘better’ than good, aim to do it best. When we get to do it ‘best’ see how to better it and rest not till that better has also been made best!

So, you see this is a continuous task and aims towards our potential. Not competing with others. No time to see how far others have gone. Just be on our path and keep aiming for ‘perfection’ in your every act – however simple and routine it be!

Always ask yourself “Did I do it better than yesterday? Could I better it than yesterday? How to better it than yesterday? And feel elated when you take one step towards ‘better way of doing something’.

Now, is it only for job? Can it be applicable elsewhere? Why sure?!

Then, why do or behave in such way that creates this karma? And in this case, it is so simple! Avoid ‘the friction’ of the soul. Start being ‘aware’ of how you are doing work in hand – be it official or just cleaning your toilet – just be aware of the quality of your wok. Don’t be drunk with ‘ego’ and jump to conclusion that ‘I am already giving a lot’ – No! Beware of that trap of ego! Don’t fall for that! Be alert!

Any job that is either given to you or you take up, just do it to the best of your abilities. And always give it a thought for at least ‘I minute’ afterwards.  Ask yourselves ‘how can I do it better’ always! Don’t get angry at yourself when you realize you could’ve done it better. Don’t’ go on saying ‘sorry ma’am’ to me too!

Just note it down and do Reiki for couple of minutes saying ‘this is how I am to handle this work/situation henceforth!’.

Now, next time when you are to do the job, you would apply ‘this better way of doing it’.

This time too, do the entire exercise and this way, keep checking yourself, your way of doing things and getting better at every single act in your life.

Reflections – on washing clothes

Yes, you see what you’ve given!? Your karma is received on how much you could’ve given and how much you chose to give! Period! Am I clear?

Our eyes and look-out is always on ‘what we want to receive or what desire or worthy of receiving’ instead of ‘how to give more and contribute better’. We almost always assume we are giving a lot (?!) and from that assumption comes irritation, frustration and anger that we are receiving less than what we desire and deserve!

But the golden question is ‘could we’ve given more on in a better fashion’? The answer almost always is “Yes”. And yet when even the thought in that line is absent, our soul suffers the pain of expressing itself less than its potential. There is a difference between how much and how better ‘your soul’ can give and how much you let it give. This causes ‘friction’. And this ‘friction’ is the basis of ‘karma being generated’. You are always saying ‘but ma’am, I don’t’ want to suffer the consequences of my karma’ or ‘ma’am, I am afraid of facing my karma’.

Reflections – on washing clothes

Let’s use this example to understand this point better. Any way, they – the clothes are washed it wouldn’t harm anybody. And yet if washed in the ‘right order’ would put the working wheel in order. It would’ve gone seamlessly in a better way! I can hear some of you say “but ma’am, it is so simple and irrelevant, why are you giving so much of importance to it?”

Yes, it is a very mundane routine. And yet it reflects all this in one go – our clarity of thought, effortless way of doing things, mind that is de-cluttered and calmness – if done the best way! That a simple act can give away so much about us is alarming – isn’t it? Now, if it was just an act, then I wouldn’t bother much. But his act reflects ‘our state of mind’ and also our attitude of doing our job. This also shows that I am not present ‘in the moment’ while doing this job. One who thinks ‘chaltha hai’ – (take it easy) while doing small acts would also do bigger acts the same way. That reflects our carelessness towards our work. It also says we are not ‘present’ 100% in the job at hand. That means, we take our work for granted. That shows we are not giving 100% to our job. We are ‘stealing’ literally from our job. Surprised? Yes, we are not giving 100% of our potential to the job at hand reflects our character that doesn’t give its best to every work done. And yet, how many of us complained “but maam, my company doesn’t’ pay salary my worth?”

Reflections – on washing clothes

Reflections – on washing clothes

You do see the order – right? In actuality, the second set should’ve gone into washing machine first so that they can be given for pressing immediately after. That way, those clothes would’ve one day to get dried up and second day it could conveniently sit with the ‘man who would press them’ (istri)

As these set would leave the cloth hangers free, I could’ve put my first set for washing. When they would dry, I could put the 3rd set to dry. They could stay put for couple of days – in case of rain or anything as there was no need to do any further action on them.

But, I didn’t do so. I put the 3rd set first. As the washing machine got filled, I realized the folly. And I couldn’t do anything about it now, I simply let it be.

Those of you who are bit confused, well I request you go through the writing once again!!

And yes, your confusion is well based though. Yes, as you rightly saw and thought, the above act doesn’t have any problem in it. At the first look we realize that there is nothing wrong in washing in any order. See, therein lies ‘Maya’ – the illusion. Wrong is very loud and clear. It is there for anyone to see. But when it is NOT WRONG but a better way of doing the right job, we tend to not notice that we are not following ‘the best way of doing it’.

Reflections – on washing clothes

Reflections* – on washing clothes

Yesterday, I had to wash three sets of clothes. First set of clothes were of course mine that need not be pressed. They had to be folded – though!

Second set of clothes were those that had to be pressed.

The third set of clothes were those that did not need to be pressed nor required to be folded. They could be handing for couple of days with pleasure.

But, this was not how I labelled them or saw them at the start of my ‘job’. I saw them as just ‘all these had to be washed’. And so, without a second thought, I simply put the third set to be washed first.

You do see the order – right? In actuality, the second set should’ve gone into washing machine first so that they can be given for pressing immediately after. That way, those clothes would’ve one day to get dried up and second day it could conveniently sit with the ‘man who would press them’ (istri).

Suggestion : Note the "Quotes" given in all the posts - they do convey the gist of the explanation sometimes. And at times, they themselves are the answer to the question you are going around with. They can remind you of 'what you knew and have forgotten' and help you to be back on track. Read them - they are not randomly posted. I spend hours searching for exact words to post them. There certainly is a reason why they are posted....
