Me, my Guru – on forgiveness and punishment

Our farmer smiled and replied, “I can’t describe my returns to you in words. You’ve to experience it. Come with me and experience the joy that one gets in the proximity of my Guru”.

The atheist was amused. He agreed to go with the farmer. Both set on foot to meet the Guru. On the way, the farmer stumbled and fell to the ground. His toe was cut and started to bleed. In intense pain and with the bleeding leg, they resumed the journey. A few minutes on, the businessman found a small diamond. He picked it and mocked the farmer “See, you do so much of sadhan and yet Guru let you suffer the hurt. Here I don’t believe in your God or Guru and yet am richer with this diamond. What is the fun of going to your Guru’s place? Don’t you understand the simple logic here? Come let’s go back”.

But the farmer insisted on meeting his Guru – as ever. He didn’t have an explanation for the businessman’s taunt though. They finally reached the Guru’s place, they had Guru’s darshan and took his leave. But the farmer returned to meet the Guru alone now and asked “Guruji, I am not sad, frustrated nor doubting you. But I have a question for which I seek an explanation from you. If you please answer me and put my doubt to rest, I’ll be grateful to you”.

Guru permitted him to ask.

The farmer asked the question “Gurudev, I’ve devotedly come to you since ages and yet I suffered this injury to my leg en route to your place. Whereas, my friend talks ill of God and still he received a diamond. Please tell me why this happened so?”
