Me, my Guru – on forgiveness and punishment
It was a warm day. I was relaxed today as I opened the gate at “My Guru’s place”. As I joined others I found her (My Guru) talking about the importance of trust, respect and sadhan. She said sadhan bears fruit only if one has ‘trust’ on the Guru and the technique along with ‘respect’ for both. Even if one was missing, the sadhan didn’t give results that it could. Everyone was listening with rapt attention. We all had only one reason to be in sadhan – the fulfillment of some desire. This topic was very important in our eyes.
Could we ever listen without questioning? We had to disagree. We raised a question. How could today be any different?
Many heads nodded to show they understood the question.
Our Guru being herself smiled and replied “One Guru had a disciple who believed in him completely. He followed his Guru’s teachings without even questioning them. He also visited his Guru every other month. He was a farmer and would walk all the way from his village to his Guru’s place which took 1-2 days of walking. All through the journey he would be doing ‘nama japa’ of his Guru. Such was his ‘bhakthi’. His friend who was a successful businessman and an atheist noticed this for years. One day, he questioned our farmer “Why do you take so much of pain every other month to visit your Guru? You are so poor, look at yourself. What did you gain from all this sadhan and bhakthi?”
Contd.....
