How does this virtue benefit us?

What and why is this defect bad for us?

When we realize that there is more to it than we have understood, we will probably make an effort to understand. (Saying ‘probably’ because some times in spite of the awareness one does not want to admit that they haven’t understood) Without that realization we tend to fall back on what we assume about the subject matter.
I have seen this in every walk of life. When I am open to the thought that I may not be understanding it or that I may be wrong, then I look for the missing piece. Once, I find it, it makes more sense and above all gives me peace. Without the proper understanding I only keep asking more questions, keep making unnecessary conclusions and have a block in my mind. Plus, when we do not have that realization then no matter how much someone explains We fail to understand easily.

This post reminded me of the post

And

Because after pranayama my understanding levels have bettered.

Realization comes with acceptance of the way things are. We let go of our expectations or judgment of the way things are. This frees us to see things in the right perspective. And when we realize that we don't understand it does not disturb us, but helps us see and cope with the situation better with an open mind.

What and why is this defect bad for us

Not to realize that we don't understand reflects a resistance within to see things the way they are. We are allowing our ego & expectations to influence the way we look and this defect will mislead us.
