Show Gratitude in action

…contd….

Once I told our Guruji “Guruji, I am grateful for this life to God”. That time, our Guruji smiled and said “If it be true, then show it”. I didn’t get her and asked her what she meant and she said

“bahut dekhen hai bathen karne wale,

Baathen karne wale kahan kaam kiya karthe hai….”

Meaning “I have seen many who talk but hardly people who act”.

That hit me that day. I found it to be true. Our gratitude, thanks, appreciation, affection and so called love is only words. We actually don’t put them to action! That day onwards, I decided to put my gratitude to action. I talked to my friends and came up with the idea. We made a list of things we were grateful for. We picked three out of that list which was most voted and then decided to give the same to society.

The one thing that we all agreed and felt grateful for was food. That was voted “most grateful for”. So, we pooled money and out of that purchased food from ‘thela’ and initially we could afford only 25 packets. We would distribute it once a month on the morning of last Sunday. Soon, we put the photos of our acts on social sites and our other friends wanted to join us in this noble cause and the number of packets increased to 100 gradually. Our friends spread the word and many more wanted to join us. Mind you, most of us were giving only Rs.100-200/- per head and yet we were able to do so much of good.

Then our resources increased and our desire to part with our money increased. Then we felt it would be more economical to actually get raw material and we employed 4 men to cook every Sunday morning. This way we provided employment to these people too! This way we could feed 250 people every Sunday. Next we are planning to feed 50/day once instead of 250 /Sunday.

Then we found that we were grateful for being warm during winter/rainy. So, we decided to distribute blankets. Initially, we had distributed 100 blankets but now it’s increased to 500 blankets instead of cash and we find it easy to just distribute them. This too is just5 blankets/person. So, you can imagine how much can be usefully done if even few people come together even with just Rs.200-500/- per head.
