Is it enough to be good or right?

…contd….

Inspite of possessing such high character and abilities, he in his emotional moment took a decision to stand by Duryodhan as his friend till his (Karna’s) death. Just by being allied to a person whose intentions and means to achieve his goal were wrong and unjust, he met untimely end.

Just being ‘right’ is not enough. It just cannot be the be-all! Being associated with the ‘right person’ is also equally important. The right person if befriends a wrong person and is part of his nefarious activities and deeds, even he is deemed to have wronged. Even as per present day law this stands good. This small error on his side brought about his downfall. And so it does of a person who associates himself with the ‘wrong doer’ or a person with ‘wrong intentions’. Ignorance of others’ wrong intentions cannot be used as an excuse and any wrong knowing or unknowingly done is always punishable. So, choose your friends, guides, mentors and above all Guru with care!

You ultimately have to bear the consequence of your choice. So beware!

So, all these examples just tell us one thing. However great may be the achievements and abilities of a person, however noble his character, one attitude or weakness or one wrong decision is enough to negate all his good abilities and achievements. Now what to say of us with so many negative qualities and wrong decisions! I am sure I won’t have to hear atleast for few days to come “why am I suffering?”

Usually people arrive at ‘good’/ ‘bad’ by looking at number of qualities. For example he has six good qualities and only one negative quality, so he’s good. Because he’s good only good things should happen in his life. Since it is not, good people always suffer! But, if seen clearly and correctly good people are not suffering because they are good. They are suffering because of their weakness or wrong decisions.

Understanding this, take decisions wisely, knowing this don’t be casual with your weakness, keep working on them. Big or small, every weakness has to be won over. If you want to be applauded for being good and great person then why settle for ‘he is good but for his ‘XYZ’ weakness’? Be great without any weakness. Don’t bother how long it’ll take to overcome them. Don’t care about the amount of hard work. But work towards perfection in purity. Do not settle for less!

Long though the journey and unknown the path,

failures many and sure to come enroute

keep walking , keep trying,

you don’t fail when you fail

you fail when you accept you’ve failed!

So, Arise, Awake and rest not till the goal is reached! – Upanishad!
