Me, My Guru – on keeping count in love

 Contd.....

Me, My Guru – on keeping count in love

Wouldn’t you shout at that car and its driver? We are the ‘driver’ who is putting that
mud on Guru here because our car of desire is running so fast!? Get it?

Next, understand one more thing here. People always assume they are ‘good people who are suffering because of bad God!’ See closely here – the way we misbehave and mistreat others because we are not able to address our anger and desires correctly is actually wrong! And that wrong gives out fruit called ‘karma’. As we sow, so we reap! Does that make us good as we presume ourselves to be? I wonder??!!

We have to bear consequences of our acts. We do! But again we hold others responsible for our suffering. The people we meet and the way they behave with us and treat us because of our karma – not because they are bad. We are ignorant of the consequences of our acts and behaviour when we are giving that to others. But when the same comes back to us, we suffer!

But our Guru being herself smiled and adjusted her saree. I could see she was going to tell us some story for sure. But, today I felt our class would go till late night. The complaints were so many that she would’ve to tell so many stories today! I was both excited and happy.

And our Guru started “In a certain village a group of milkmaids came to rest under a banyan tree. They had already sold all their milk early in the morning and were returning home. The Sun was just rising. But, the day had started long before for these girls and they just sat down under this banyan tree to relax for some time. This was their daily routine. They would all sell their milk in the village and while returning home would spend some time under this banyan tree. It was then that they looked into their accounts too! They were doing just the same when one girl said “I am falling short of Rs.50/-. I don’t know to whom I’ve given milk and not taken money”.

read the given link to understand how we - well most of us are experts in 'giving'. Yes, I am not joking....we know to give, it's just that we 'give' something that comes back to hurt us too....we don't have to learn something different. We just have to learn to change the 'object' of giving....tell me, if you have understood it and what you have made out of this....

Tips to understand the post :

"The complaints were so many that she would’ve to tell so many stories today! " - We usually have so many complaints against a person or a situation. We then assume the problem to be a very big one too! But trust me, bigger the problem easier and simpler the solution.

"I was both excited and happy " - Here the narrator is happy because he is not the one with the problem and complaint. So he is ready to enjoy the story session. But see elsewhere he asks a question and the Guru starts with a story, immediately the narrator says 'why can't she just give an answer - straight and simple way'!

If you understand this small attitude and behaviour, it will be easy to understand how we behave. Both our anger and happiness is not 'based on right' reason. And we hold the other responsible for our anger and think we are suffering because of them!!

(Am I clear in this explanation? Could you understand it right? Are you able to see how you behave and how your behaviour is at fault in such cases?)

Clarification needed :

I have been giving such 'tips to understand the post' link for quite some time now....my question is

  • is it useful?
  • Am i clear?
  • I am giving the portion from the post in one colour and the explanation in the other colour. Is it clear that way? Is the purpose served?
  • Help me to help you better....my work may go waste if it doesn't serve the purpose of being useful to you....
  • do you want me to continue doing so or would you understand even without me going through this explanation?
  • please clarify....
  • any suggestion will be looked into and if feasible will certainly try to apply....
  • if you need any part of story/post to be clarified, do ask, will explain when and if can.....

On playing a game

On playing a game

This doesn’t validate any type of compulsion or addiction. Weakness is weakness! However harmless it seems, weakness is not to be worn for long!

No amount of justification can validate my addiction. But yet, something good can come out of our bad too if we are available to ‘seeing’ it! At the same time, using this as an excuse to have an addiction is both stupid and unwelcome.

The answer I received was “Don’t hurry the things. When it is not yet the time, no amount of going for it will give the desired results. We can hurry mentally, we can go around complaining to one and all, we can seek favours from one and all, dump our anger on soft targets in our life (Whom we presume responsible to fulfill our desires!?) – we can do all this and more and yet – no a leaf would move…But when the time comes, things fall in place effortlessly even without our thought. We just have to be part of the process, wait when the winds are not favourable and reap the benefits of patience when winds turn favourable!”

This lifted my burden so effortlessly. Sometimes, all it takes to lift the burden off the chest is the simple understanding that match stick drives away the dark gloomy darkness……

Maybe, your song is right in front of you – are you looking? Maybe, you are looking at it right now and yet not realizing that ‘this is it!"

What's gratitude?

…contd….

Inshort, we are both happy and satisfied when grateful. Being grateful is not for others. It is of no use to the person you are grateful to, but to yourself. You gift yourself “Being happy” when you are grateful.

It couldn’t be better explained than by Rahuls’ version of gratitude. He started “ I heard a story of a Zen woman who was a beggar of course from our Guruji many years ago. This woman had come to a village and it being very cold – so cold that it could kill a person in no time if he stayed outdoors, the woman knocked at every door and requested that she be given the shelter for night. But no one compiled to her request. With no other alternative available and with empty stomach, the poor beggar woman decided to spend her night under a tree. She sat down. For no particular reason, she raised her head and lo! She beholds the beautiful full moon.

She didn’t know that it was full-moon night (pournami). The beauty of that moon transfixed her gaze and she lost count of time looking at moon. In the morning, when sun rose, she realized what she had experienced and in sheer ecstasy she knocked every door of the village and thanked each person in between her tears of joy for not letting her in for night. By that gesture, they had let her experience the night like never before. She kept crying out of joy “I saw the moon, I saw the moon” to all and sundry” completed the story and started his explanation “This story stuck with me and i kept looking at “moon” (i mean blessings) in my life whenever someone denied something in my life. And trust me “I’ve seen many moons thanks to rejections in my life”. Hence, I am grateful for every “NO” that I received in my life. This had only bettered my perception and that in turn has enriched me as a person. So, i am grateful to every person who has said ‘No’ to my needs, expectations, requests and affection.

He sat down but our senses stood up. Everyone started asking questions simultaneously. It seemed as if we understood it all and yet we didn’t get a word of it. It was too bizarre and yet so genuinely shaking us from our slumber.

Me, My Guru

…contd….

How long I had been looking at that leaf I didn’t know? But, now my eye fell on its petiole – the stem that held it to its branch.  It was so thin.  My god! I couldn’t believe that a chord so thin could hold the leaf against wind and rain.  Yet the leaf seemed to have no fear.  Where did it get its confidence from I wondered? Then, it stuck me that trust is not based on the facts and figures.  It doesn’t need proofs. It just is!  Now I understood, what my Guru used to talk about Trust… it doesn’t need proofs.  It is beyond facts. A shiver went down my spine.  A tear rolled down my cheek and a smile rested on my lips when this understanding hit me…..i felt peaceful. I was still!

I left her place even without meeting her.  This feeling was so awesome that I didn’t want to lose it by talking even to her.  I knew she would understand….

Few days passed.  I was sitting in a garden and children were playing some games there.  I was watching them my eyes fell on a tree and then it rested on the leaf. Even without my effort I started  looking at it and after sometime I felt gratitude for the Creator who’s created such a wonderful thing for me! Yes me! For me to breathe fresh air! Such a simple method of cleaning the atmosphere of my breathe and yet so beautiful to look at.  More I looked at it; more I fell in love with HIM.  I thanked the Nature and God for all they were doing for me!

Me, my guru

…contd….

“I asked the tree this question once and the tree said ‘I can because I don’t have past to live up to and a future to worry.  I do what needs to be done now – and the time does the rest.” She continued oblivious of my suffering “The tree could TRUST the moment and shed her leaves completely.  She didn’t think ‘what’ll people who’ve seen me full think of me if I become bare no.  like-wise it didn’t bother about future thinking if leaves don’t come again, then what about my future and security.”  A person who doesn’t need to uphold an image of the past or worry of the future only can ‘live the moment completely’ and only sucha  person can ‘Trust’ the process, nature, reiki, God – why eve me?” she chuckled and she uttered last words “To trust one should have ‘no ego’.  No person with ego can trust.  You should surrender yourself completely to the other to have Trust.  It means you need to ‘submit yourself’ in toto and that cannot happen as long as ‘YOU’ exist.  Only when ‘YOU’ no longer exist can you put your faith in me or reiki – clear?” she patted my cheek and left with a smile leaving me there to digest the entire conversation.

All these years, I put the blame on her, reiki and God to prove their greatness, goodness and asked them to give reasons to trust them.  No, on the contrary, I was finding excuses to not trust them.  I would judge situations, their actions and asked them to conform to my specifications and if they deviated I jumped with joy and said ‘see so, I can’t trust them.’

But, the problem was in my all through – no the problem was me.  I couldn’t submit myself completely.  I didn’t feel good with myself I needed time to collect myself.  I left her place even without saying goodbye to her.  How long it would take me to process this whole fact I don’t know.  Till then, I preferred not to meet her…….

I hope I don't take long to understand it – because I didn’t wish to be away from her for too long too!

I sat down and cried…..

Me, My guru

...contd...

‘you see that Banyan tree?’  her voice cut through the silence.

‘yes’ I said startled not knowing what and where this conversation came from.

“Just 2 months back, do you remember when you had come and I was here looking at it” she continued, ‘so, this is what she was staring at all these days’ I thought to myself and just nodded my head in answer to her question.  She didn’t even turn to look at me and continued “the whole tree – such a huge peepul tree was void of its leaves not a single leaf on its branches just 2 months back.  Now look! Its full. When we see the tree now, we can’t know that she was totally bare just 2 months back and looking at her then one wouldn’t imagine her being so full as now.  Isn’t that surprising?” she asked.

What was surprising? Wasn’t that natural? I thought. I was bit confused.  Where was this conversation heading to? Why was she talking about that tree suddenly now?  No doubt I don't trust her.  Sometimes, she would be so serene mouthing words so profound and other times like now would talk matter irrelevant and out of control.

“How could such a huge tree have confidence to shed all its leaves?  Where from it gained the trust that it could be rich with greenery soon?” I didn’t have an answer.  I gave an irritating look to that tree.  Who asked it to drop leaves and get new ones?  Where was the need? Now, I was being grilled unnecessarily for it, I didn’t like this tree….
