On choices and freedom

On choices and freedom

“….freedom is all I want, but to ask for it I feel ashamed…”  said Tagore in “Geetanjali” that won him Nobel Prize for literature. And that ‘fact’ remains true even today! And so it will be tomorrow!
What does ‘freedom’ mean for most of us?

‘Freedom’ means leading life as one wants to. To not be answerable to any, to go wherever we want, do whatever we want and be how ever we want”.

Freedom:
Power with responsibility gives to freedom to design a life the way you want. The question of answering comes when the freedom is affecting others. When freedom is given with trust it helps one grows with guidance here and there.
When the foundation of ethics is strong freedom is doesn't get mis utilised . For someone who is tasting freedom for the first time one doesn't know how to use it. May be initially one doesn't know it's way. When one realises it the things slowly get in track.

Thank you, maam! I guess the definition of freedom depends on how one if feeling in the moment. For me in this moment, when I am by myself, I feel liberated. But when I am with my kid, I am occupied with the thoughts of things he needs to finish (his studies, eating, sleeping, bathing, etc,.) and his long term well being and behavior. When I am with my relatives/friends and listen to or see them, I sometimes feel compelled to respond to their acts (acts which in my opinion is them being unreasonable). While I understand one changes their ways based on what they experience and not based on what I expect from them, I still get carried away by my values. In those moments freedom to me is the ability to bring my attention back to the path I have chosen for myself and walk on it without worrying about what others in my path think or feel.

I love to get more guidance from you on this subject. Thank you for addressing this for me!
