Me, My Guru - Buddha choosing what to receiving when others give!

(contd...)

Me, My Guru - Buddha choosing what to receive when others give!

“Once Buddha” started my Guru and continued, “while going around asking for Bhiksha (alms), stood in front of a palatial bungalow and said ‘Bhavathi Biksham Dehi’. (It is asking for alms in Sanskrit by monks and sanyasis). A well-dressed woman came out and started shouting ‘You are a young person with a strong and able body. Are you not ashamed of seeking alms? Why don’t you work and earn your bread? Shame on your creed!’

This was followed by a volley of words that were both cynical and insulting at times. Buddha stood there listening. When she completed and stood there exhausted, he smiled, bowed down and replied ‘Thank you’ and left.

His sishya who was with him was really hurt and couldn’t accept his Guru’s insult. So he burst out asking “Why did you not retort back at that woman? She doesn’t know your greatness. Why didn’t you let her know who you are?”

Buddha simply gave his Kamandalam (small pitcher to carry water) to his student and said “Please carry it on my behalf” and started walking. After some time, he suddenly stopped, looked at his student and asked “Whose Kamandalam is that?”.
The student said,  ‘Of course, it is yours Guruji”.

“Is it? Then how come you are carrying it?” asked Buddha who seemed lost.

“Because you asked me to carry it on your behalf” replied his student.

“Then it is yours from now on. I give it to you” said Buddha and started walking again.

A few minutes passed. They had walked a few hundred yards too!

Suddenly, Buddha stopped pointing at Kamandalam and asked his student “Whose Kamandalam are you carrying?”

“Mine, of course!” replied his student perplexed at his Guruji’s ways.

Honesty !

Excellence is the key word to honesty ...

A German once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?"

"No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage."

The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked.

"There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?" The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar seventy feet high.

"If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked.

The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it."

The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not.

"Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and efficiency...giving your best is not enough. Giving that you cannot better even if given a second chance is Honesty to the core. Honesty should not be varying depending on the situation. It is giving your 100% every time. It should be something that you give when no one is watching or noticing too!

We usually think ourselves to be honest people!

But the question is, are we? Honesty shouldn’t be relative. Honesty is with the self. Where ever you are, what ever you do, are you honest? This should be the question that drives you to perfection in everything that you do.

The simple rule would be to be Aware of the energy that we are generating with every thought, word, feel and deed every minute of our lives. The sum total of all these energies if is negative, then we are not ‘good’ people though we may term ourselves to be so. Check it out every minute. Then, we’ll understand that since we are generating something negative, we are experiencing and living negative situations in life.

We are not ‘good people’ suffering because of some X,Y,Z’s ‘nazar’ or ‘curse’. We are just suffering because of our own creations!

It’s time we honestly revamp our creations (by thought, feel, word and deed) to be living a life that we have dreamt about. BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT. STOP talking about the change you wish to have in your life.

Those of US who have been complaining of the situations in life, if you are happy with it stop here and carry on your life as it is. But if you ‘honestly’ don’t want these situations in life, if you ‘honestly’ want happiness and satisfaction in life and then let us take a pledge that we’ll become more aware of our thoughts and ‘honestly’ give only the best to ourselves.

So, just for TODAY WE’LL LIVE HONESTLY AND EARN HONESTLY is an understanding that I wish to include in my learning and application in life,

As I learn to do so,

I take leave, for now

Me, My Guru - Buddha choosing what to receive when others give!

Me, My Guru - Buddha choosing what to receive when others give!

It happened many times before. But still, I couldn’t take it. But to my Guru, it never seemed to matter. Today, we went to an exhibition. We were going through the stalls that had beautiful artifacts. My Guru was lost admiring a few of the works. “You are a spiritual person. I am surprised you are here. You preach that one should be detached and yet you go around looking at these things? Don’t you think you are being a hypocrite? Teaching one thing and following something altogether different?” boomed the cynical voice from behind. There was a distinct taunt and contempt in that voice. There was no way anyone could have missed that, more so my Guru.

But, it seemed my Guru was totally deaf to all these. She smiled and replied “Hope you’ve a wonderful time! See you later…” and just simply walked out of the stall.

She had already entered the next stall that touched her fancy and was lost admiring saris there. I couldn’t hold back anymore. I said “How come you don’t get angry when people say such things about you? Doesn’t it bother you?”

“Once Buddha” started my Guru and continued.

spirituality

Why Spirituality?

Spirituality and materialism – do they go together?

One common doubt that everyone seems to have is : What would I get by practicing spirituality? I don’t want to leave everything and go away? I am a householder who is responsible towards my family and society. So, why spirituality? I am anyhow religious. Spirituality doesn’t bind you. It frees you from within and helps you to don your role in life effortlessly and happily not to forget your commitment to your role. Spirituality and powers don’t necessarily go together. Spirituality only deals with dropping off the ego which is the pain giver and which stops us from experiencing life for what it is. Simply put in Tagore’s words it takes you to -

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where the knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert and of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into the ever-widening thought and action-
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Read every sentence again and again. Don’t say ‘oh, but I know this poem.’ ‘I have read it already’. These and such related statements will stop you from experiencing and living life of abundance. If you honestly – I repeat honestly, not just verbally want to walk this talk then do it. Stop verbalizing and arguing. T

Towards this end of freedom we will be working for in the days to come and then experience the fullness of life and ourselves in the process.

Working towards freedom is

Homam

Jai shree Gajanand Maharaj ki!

Along with the creation of the universe the Almighty Father revealed the ultimate knowledge to the mankind in the form of the Vedas. The word Veda originates from the Sanskrit Verbal root ‘Vid” meaning to know. ‘Vedas’ mean pure knowledge. This revelations was made in a very subtle manner in the hearts of pure and pious minded Rishis. Rishi means seer. Vedas are not composed. Vedas is the knowledge of the Divine. It does not belong to any particular religion or faith.

The five fold path of the Sanathana Dharma (Eternal Religion) is the essence of Vedas.

· Yagnya (Agnihotra) – for the purification of atmosphere
· Daan-sharing of assets in the spirit of humility
· Tapa (Self Discipline)
· Karma (Right Action)
· Swadhyaya (Self Study) for liberation

You may follow any religion under the sun. You may choose to be an atheist too! But to become a perfect member of your own society you should first be a good human being with pure and peaceful mind. That is inculcated in you by the Agnihotra.

It is just not one more of the ritual. It’s main purpose is to develop the surrendrance to the ultimate knowledge and to drop our greatest enemy – ego.

While practicing Agnihotra we chant ‘Idam Na Mama’ that is ‘Not Mine, Thy will be done’. This slowly helps you to drop your greatest foe ego and prepares you for liberation.

Few Benefits of performing Agnihotra in every house would be:
· Agnihotra is performed at sunset and sunrise which is referred to as ‘Transitional Moments’. Vedas describe this particular period of Time as the ‘Passage of Liberation’. When we cross a river, we look for a shallow place. This is called as ‘Tirtha Sthan’. Similarly, the fathomless unending ocean of miserable worldly life is shallow at the transitional moments of Sunrise and Sunset. Every man follows a particular pattern of breathing during the period of sunrise to sunset to sunrise. Exactly at the time of transition, they too are in a the process of transition during which short time the ‘Sushumna’ nadi is active. We are performing Agnihotra at this time to get maximum benefits.
· It creates pure, clean and medicinal atmosphere.
· It cleanses the negative effects of pollution.
· It spreads the vibrations of peace and love and cleanses the Prana.
· Medicinal properties in the Agnihotra atmosphere restrict the growth and spread to pathogenic bacteria.
· The sacred ash from Agnihotra has beneficial effects on Agriculture. Many farms in and outside India have benefited from their use. Fertilizers and pesticides have been done away with.
· The unending ‘healing cycle’ and the protection cycle is formed in the house and the areas where it is regularly performed.

And the benefits are more…I request all those of you who are practicing Agnihotra to come out with your experiences (don’t label them as big or small). Experience is an experience. Share with one and all here on the blog too!

Suggest Agnihotra to non-Reiki channels too! Even they will be benefited hugely. Reiki channels have an added advantage of awareness and can feel the vibratory shifts happening around during and after the Homam.

Is God the only Creator?

Who’s the Creator of bad in the world?

Shivoham!

Feedbacks and comments give me an insight into your understandings and also into your doubts. They are ever so welcome!

One question I received was “Did the same God create both good and bad people in the world?”

· VIBGYOR – Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red – all are just the rays of the same While Light. Ultra-violet rays are good whereas Infra-red rays harm.

· Both Ravana and Vibhishana had the same father!

· Hiranyakashyap and Prahlad – both had same forefathers!

· Both Cain and Abel had the same father – Abraham!

· It’s the same Mother who nourishes the world as Parvathi and the same Mother is also Mother Kali.

· It’s the same God who created Mother Earth who sustains all life forms. Again it’s the same God who created Thunderbolt to put to flames the whole of forests at one go.

· God is not only the Creator but also the destroyer. He is the sustainer too!

· Like-wise, it’s the same God who created Doe created Tiger too!

Now, the next question would be “How can the same God create both good and bad?”

Well, just as the same story-teller or writer creates both the victim and the person who assaults.

Just as the same director directs both the hero and the anti-hero.

As you get lost in these statements and the basic truths of Creation,

I go to admire the beauty in creation,

Till you come up with next query, I remain lost in bliss

A Ready Reckner

Inspite of following preventive measures, we end up having a flat tyre. Then instead of analyzing and shouting or resorting to blame game, we need to fix the tyre immediately. This is called as Break down Maintenance. When the problem is right in front of you, just fix it. Don’t sit and contemplate on it. Later we can dig at the cause and fix it for long term benefit. But for now just fix it! This is the concept of Break down maintenance.

The difference between PM and BDM is that BDM is resorted to when the damage is already done. It is about fixing the immediate issue at hand. Whereas PM is to work at the cause which cause break down even before Break down happens. It helps in avoiding delays, break-downs, accidents happening out of negligence.

PM in spiritual life helps one to –
- lead a stress free life
- charting out events from such that breakdowns are minimized or totally done away with
- avoid accidents from happening or if so then to minimize the effect it has on the person
