Purpose of giving

…contd….

1.      Highest of all giving is the giving away of knowledge of self – of Brahman. It’s the esoteric knowledge and very few are capable of giving. So don’t go there unless you’re well equipped in this field. Then how to do this ‘danam’ when I myself am ignorant of this knowledge? Simple! Facilitate in arranging of such satsangs. Arrange for such group meetings etc. Easiest is to introduce them to your Guru, Reiki or such of avenues which will give them know-how of their ‘soul consciousness’.

Yes, agreed I am grateful and am doing charity, but what’s the benefit I receive?

1.      Emotional satisfaction – you donate something on your birthday and then compare the happiness of partying with donating. I need not explain then. Do it today as ‘Trial run’ and feel the difference. Give just 5 packets of food and notice how your feel.

2.      We want so many things yet feel we have been denied of it. And the ‘Law of Karma’ states you didn’t deserve it. You are not worthy of it. What is the worthiness and how to increase it? This law simply means you didn’t give. You receive what you give.

So, by giving what you wish to receive you increase your worthiness. This is what is called as ‘Punya karma’ in spiritual language. In short by not giving much, you are not receiving enough and by giving more you receive more. But I already have everything that I need, so I need not donate, right?

Wrong. Yesterday’s good deeds have given you good and satisfying life today. But what about tomorrow? Your needs will still be the same. So, give more today as you already have enough to share to secure your future.

3.      This give and take philosophy and reason should be at the start of your donation but not throughout your life. If you are in sadhan regularly and working and checking on your attitudes, this platform from which you started to give changes. You no longer feel happy because you feel ‘great’ giving. You give because you have to. You slowly start living. “Do your karma but be detached’. You slowly loose the sense of doership over the period of time and hence no longer talk about giving away Rs.100 or Rs.500 to others. You give and forget. Your left hand will not know what your right hand has given. You grow as a person.

4.      Next, comes on understanding that there is no ‘you’ to associate the act with yourself. You no longer desire benefits of this ‘good act’ – be it a tag of being ‘a good person doing charity’ or a benefit of receiving goodies by way of luck or by way of reaping benefits of karma done. The one who gave you is Him and what He gave, part of it you gave to Him only. Because, the receiver though a begger is His manifestation only. So, He gives Himself. Where are you? Since, you didn’t exist in that act, you disown the fruits of this act totally. This state heals your karma beautifully. Beautiful because you stop reaping benefits of both good and bad karma and hence are existing in a state where you need to face the karma of past deeds only. Once exhausted, for not having created newer ones with the present karma or act you become ‘free’. You get ‘Moksha’ (liberated). Negating all karmas is the only key to reach that state of perfection. And this is the basis of ‘karma yoga’ – that a man can become free through his work and not be bound by it.

I experienced immense hapiness by doing charity to an old age home by donating food for a whole day for 120 people on the birthday of my daughter.
I got this thought when i was in deep sleep and acted upon it immediately and decided we make it a routine for both my dauhgter's birthday's ( now after reading this blog i decided to do it still more often)
The hapiness which we felt, when they were so happy eating the food cannot be expressed through words.
Thanks Mam for that seed of thought.
