The minister pulled himself up and started pulling the twine thread gently. After sometime, he could get hold of the rope. Holding the rope he got down the tower. He and his wife slipped out of the town in the silence of the night and lived happily ever after…….

How is this story related to our topic? The minister could save himself and could take care of his wife too out of a situation from which there seemed to be no way out. How?
As his name suggests, ‘Sthirabudhi’ – One whose intellect is ‘sthira’ or calm and poised was calm even in the time of emergency.

1. A calm mind can easily see the solution in the midst of chaos.

2. It takes a calm mind to take stock of the situation completely, weight the pros and cons of it and to think of the solution.

3. In case of emergency, usually we get agitated, tensed and worry a lot. Thereby we create new problems instead of finding a solution.

4. During tension, the number of thoughts that we generate is so much so that that itself blinds our clarity of thought.

How is pronayamam connected to calm mind and clarity of thought?

Observe yourself closely. We breathe slowly when we are calm and palpitate when we are tensed. That shows breathe and the state of mind are interrelated. The state of mind and the thoughts are interrelated. Pranayamam calms the breathe. It slows the breath. We become consciously aware of the breath and are able to regulate it. This simple exercise gives us an understanding bye and by that life moves on even when we are not aware of it. We need to just participate by being an observer of it.

Next, the regulated breath in turn slows the number of thoughts generated. Less the thoughts in our mind, more our mind is calmer. More our mind is calmer, less is the stress that we experience. Less stressed we are, more active and energetic we are. More active and energetic we are, more we can participate in life and thereby celebrate life completely. So, to live life to the fullest extent, pranayamam is the easiest and the most effective technique available on the face of earth.

Not to forget the physical wellness that comes with it. So many diseases that couldn’t be cured by the medical world have been cured with pranayamam. It betters our eye-sight too apart from the general health. Brings cheer to our personality and glow to our skin. Greying of hair is postponed or done away with by doing pronayamam. Try pranayamam to actually believe all this. Just for six months at a stretch. Not comfortable with it – then after six months just leave it. No Questions asked.

So why delay? Start right away while I write down next post….
