Me, My Guru - On life and death – III!

Me, My Guru - On life and death – III!

Having no choice, the student monk agreed. Next day, before leaving for bhiksha, he sat in meditation and commanded his mind to express only noble thoughts. Then becoming witness to his thoughts he started walking towards his area of seeking bhiksha. Having no thoughts to disturb him, he was blissful the entire day. He completed his bhiksha as instructed by the Great One and returned to the monastery. When Buddha asked him about his experience, he replied “The Great One! I was in bliss the whole day. No thoughts, nothing! It was bliss. Thank-you!”

Buddha smiled and replied “Just continue doing this and you’ll soon heal all your karma and be blessed with Enlightenment”.

This student too went and sat beside the student who had gone silent when Buddha declared his death”.

Our Guru looked at us as she waited for her tea. We sipped our tea in silence. We were processing the story. We were trying to fit it in our life.

The story of dragonfly

…contd….

Sweety asked immediately “so like this dragonfly my friend also has become an angel. Isn’t it?” our Guruji just smiled.

“So, can I meet her when my chance comes to become a dragonfly?” she asked innocently.

“Ofcourse you can!” replied our Guruji. I was bit confused. Was she giving that girl a real fact or was she saying things only to cool that girl? Before I could venture into that question Sweety joyously got up and said” come mamma, let’s go. My friend Pinky is fine. Let me go to prepare for my exams”.

Her mother was both joyous and surprised at her sudden mood change. But without disturbing her state, she simply got up, prostrated before our Guru out of gratitude and left, eased of her pain. Her gesture was genuine and was filled with thanks to our Guruji. But our Guruji just was. Her smile and look remained same.

Someone asked “Guruji shall I prepare tea for all?” and received just a nod in reply and she went into meditation.

We started talking among ourselves – of course not there but out in the front yard. We had come to talk about Il Dolce far Niente but she taught us the ‘art of dying’. When she was narrating that story with that facial expressions and tone modulation, we felt ‘the death to be so poetic and beautiful’. Infact, some of us even wanted to experience that too! This was one fear that gripped the whole race and yet with the simple story she made it into a vacation – an exotic one that was worth looking forward to! In fact we became more curious to know more about death and the life after that.

We have read and listened to many such stories or explanations from various quarters but when she explained, it came alive ‘a picture perfect’ of death. It no longer remained a story of a dragonfly. It became ours. It touched us and moved us! And in between all this it changed our stand, perception and belief of death.

And there in lied her victory. Though she never considered it as hers. Her success trophy reeked of such facts and figures. And yet she was oblivious to all this and meditating. I no, we didn’t know for what we should be thankful to her. For her stories, her explanations, her patience, here generosity to let us be part of her life or just for her presence! Such lack of understanding was what kept us up as students and ‘her’ as our Guru!

Just saying, no regrets though………..

But our Guru continued her explanation oblivious to our fight within “Before understanding difference between Masters and our words let us see one example. Imagine a bulb. Now it is covered by a vase which is broken at various places. Now see/imagine the light that comes out of that bulb. Look at the amount of space lighted up because of all those cracks in that vase. What do you see?” she asked.

“A room brightened up and looking beautiful!” we replied.

“Exactly! Now that bulb represents our consciousness, the energy that we, the atman – anything you call it. Vase represents the etheric sheath or aura of Masters”.

“So, our Masters aura is broken?” blurted one of us.

And we all laughed. We loved to see our masters fail. We loved to make them less grand than they were. We loved to see them fall! We loved to break them.

“No! His ‘ego body’ is broken. And so, the light of ‘his consciousness’ expresses through that ego sheath so beautifully. Anybody who works on breaking his ego body gets to use his ‘inner and greatest energy’ to work through him. And that can move mountains.

Buddha - It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or...
Whereas we – we have hard ‘ego bodies’ not letting ‘the light’ of Divine express through us”

“Then where do we draw our energies from?” asked Kshama.

108 Buddha Quotes on Meditation, Spirituality, and Happiness
She used the term ‘we’ while explaining ‘ego bodies’. Did she use it knowing our anger and to appease that or was she saying she was just one among us?

It would be a welcome thought and fact for most of us who found it difficult to put her on the pedestal. But whatever, we were to address that at a later date.

Read the above post to understand these points :

  • All the students are staying with the same Guru. Then how come Aruni received all when others received not?
  • Is Sage Dhaumya partial or egoistic who is flattered by the act of Aruni? Does anyone want to be a student of such a Guru who is so easily fooled by a simple act?
  • No. It was not the act that touched Sage Dhaumya. It was the sincerity of Aruni that touched his heart and love flowed unrestrained. Love is God and the Love of Guru when received, Universe works in favour of such a student.
  • That's why Judas suffered the curse of Jesus when Jesus was sold by him "It was better if you hadn't existed". And Judas committed suicide and yet he is said to linger in the Universe still.........whereas other students of Jesus went on to become great Apostles during their life time......
  • Remove Guru and shishya from this story and replace it with Universe/God/Reiki and yourself. Universe is ever benevolent and ready to bestow abundance in all walks of life but it is uour nature that becomes block in receiving it.
  • Healing doesn't force Universe to give us anything. It makes us eligible to receive what Universe has been giving to us always!
  • Heal, let go - of that anger, resentment, hatred.
  • Drop that reasoning that is justifying your anger and hatred and asking you to protect your ego. Drop it and you become miracle!
  • Let go off the emotions that are creating hell for you every waking minute of your life and then lo! you become a miracle!
Pointers to understand this post :

a."It would be a welcome thought and fact for most of us who found it difficult to put her on the pedestal" - Go through the entire blog of last 9-10 years. No where in 'Me, my guru series you will find Guru asking to be put on pedestal. She never demands any adoration, flattery or anything. Everything is done and assumed by the students themselves. They think on her behalf and call her both good and bad names. They make her and then become uncomfortable with her 'greatness' that they created and then they tear it apart or find ways to bring her 'image' down. Look at the redundancy of all these acts.......we play these games all through our life. First we make them, then we break them! Look into every relationship. First we glorify someone and say we can't live without them and then call them names and say they created hell in our life. How and when? Give it a thought!

b."But whatever, we were to address that at a later date. ..." - Even when we get a thought that is worth a dime and is like a light house that is showing us where to go, we shut it down very smartly (thinking we are smart and doing it right!) and go about our business of being with our self that is disturbing and senseless.....why do we postpone facing ourselves as much as possible?

Miracle a day!

The story of dragonfly

…contd….

It so happened that the next one to go turned out to be the ‘smart one’. He eventually climbed the lily stalk and out of exertion fell asleep. He had never been exposed to sun. So much light was too much for him. He went into long sleep. He got after long spell of time and he didn’t know how long! But he found himself being sticky and unable to move his limbs. He kept trying and after long struggle say feathers came out of the sticky substance that was all around him. He tried moving and to his surprise, his wings moved and he was air-borne in no time. He enjoyed the flight for sometime and then suddenly he remembered ‘his promise’. To fulfill that he had to go under water and so he dived into water. The moment he touched water he was pushed back. He saw his reflection in water. With feathers and all, he no longer looked his previous self. He found this change pleasant but couldn’t understand it. He tried diving into water again and again only to be disappointed.

Atlast, out of exertion he sat on a twig and went through the entire events one after the other. He told himself “now I don’t have the form that I had when I was under the water. So I can’t get in and even if I do, no one would recognize me now in this new form. It’s so beautiful out here. Even the ones under water would know that one day when they would come out of it. Then they’ll know why I didn’t and couldn’t keep up my promise. They wouldn’t be angry with me then. They would understand me then. So long folks!” so saying he left his old world behind. This dragonfly could never be the part of his old world ever again but he was happy with what he had and where he was!” our Guruji finished her story.
